- A big lawyer means who is quite aware of the laws of the state. Similarly, a religious person means who knows completely, at least - partially also - the laws of God. That is dharmic. That is dharma
- A bona fide spiritual master means there is no difference of instruction from the original instructor and down to this point. He's bona fide spiritual master. So therefore you have to select. If you actually want to make progress in Krsna consciousness

- 'Back to nature' means first of all your nature is different from others' nature. An animal can lie down anywhere on the street. Can you do that?

- Civilization means elevation. The aim is how to become disconnected with this material body. This is civilization. Otherwise that is not civilization. It is animal life

- Civilization means there must be first-class men, second-class men, third-class men, fourth-class men. Then rest all fifth class, up to tenth class. But at the present moment there is some fourth-class men & all fifth class, sixth class, up to 10th class
- Civilized human being means God conscious, happy life, no trouble, no enviousness, everything happy, no hard labor. Why hard labor? Everything is there. You just employ your little intelligence, you get sufficient food by grains, fruits, flowers, milk
- Civilized society means he must know, he must undergone the all the regulative principles. But at the present moment, in the Bhagavata it is said, asamskrta: Without any reformatory method
- Classless society means sudra. So how a sudra can be equal to the brahmana, ksatriya? But if you earn money, then you are more than brahmana, you are more than a sannyasi. This is Kali-yuga. So therefore people are after money only

- Dancing is very good. The more you dance, the more you become light; means the burden of material contamination becomes reduced. Dancing is so nice. Even if you don't feel ecstasy, if you dance by force, that will also help us
- Darbha means kusa grass. In fruitive activities, or karma-kandiya ceremonies, one requires kusa grass. Thus vaidarbhi refers to one who takes birth in a family of karma-kandiya understanding
- Dark well means a very deep ditch, well, but it is covered with grass. You cannot know that there is a deep well, but while walking, you may fall down within it
- Darker side also should be thought of. That is intelligence. Just like they are doing. After calculating the darker side - enemy means darker side: "They can defeat me at any moment," that is darker side
- Darkness means "I am this body, and to fulfill the necessities of the body is the highest perfection of my life"
- Darsi means who has got eyes to see what is the Absolute Truth. Don't go to a blind man, who has no knowledge about the Absolute Truth
- Dead - means gone. So factually I never saw my father who has gone. I saw the body of my father, and that is lying on the bed. Why I am crying, "My father is gone"? Therefore this is called ignorance
- Dead man means the matter is there; spirit is gone. So you can distinguish what is spirit and what is matter. So similarly, there is, as this is material world, there is another spiritual world
- Deity worship means following the rules and regulations precisely. That will keep one steady in devotional service
- Deity worship means the habit becomes clean. If you stop Deity worship, then they will remain unclean
- Deity worship means to be very, very clean. You should try to bathe twice daily. The Deities should never be approached without having bathed first and changed to clean cloths after passing stool, etc
- Demigods means almost God. They have got all godly qualities, and they are controller of the atmospheric affairs. Some of them are controlling rainy season, some of them controlling heat
- Demon means he is not a devotee. That is demon. There are two kinds of persons: one demon, and one demigod. Those who are devotees, they are demigods, and those who are not devotees, they are demons
- Demons means material activities. If there is spiritual activity, it remains very light. And if there is too much material activity and materialistic person, it become heavier and troublesome

- Desire is so strong. So how to make it zero? That is not possible. To make it zero means no more material desire. That is to make zero material desires. Sarvopadhi-vinirmuktam . That is more lucidly explained in the Narada-bhakti-sutra
- Desire means you have to accept different types of body. It is . . . you cannot make any permanent settlement. That is not possible. And that is also your fault
- Desire tree means just like here in this material world you go to the mango tree. You get mangoes. But you cannot get samosa. (laughter) But desire trees there are. In the spiritual planets there are desire trees

- Devahuti herein takes shelter of Kapiladeva and tells Him, "You are the ax capable of making me detached." When our attachment to the material world is severed, we become free. Bhakti is the means by which we can develop this detachment

- Generally one earns money by many questionable means. Therefore at some time one should retire and distribute whatever one has to the brahmanas and Vaisnavas who engage in devotional service by preaching the glories of the Supreme Personality of Godhead
- Generally we understand substantial means money. If somebody gets money, that is substantial for material comforts, of course, but real substantial thing is Krsna consciousness. That is real substance

- If Krsna is pleased and smiles little, then the whole universe will be pleased. Akhilodayah. Tasmin tuste jagat tustah. If Krsna is pleased, satisfied, then the whole universe will be satisfied, because the whole universe means part and parcel of Krsna

- India's business is para-upakara. India's business is not exploitation. That is Indian. And para-upakara means not that daridra-narayana bhojana, no. Para-upakara means to give him knowledge, for want of which he is suffering
- Indians were called by the Muslims on the other side of the River Sind, or Sindu, and they pronounce Sind as Hind. Therefore they called India as Hindustan, means on the other side of Sindu, or Hindu River. Otherwise, it has no Vedic reference
- Indra said, "You (Krsna) are so merciful that without accepting their offenses You devise means so that their false prestige is subdued and they can know that You, and no one else, are the Supreme Personality of Godhead"
- Industry does not mean really economic improvement. Real economic improvement means what you produce from the land. That requires God help. Without raw materials, even your industry cannot go on
- Infection of the qualities of the pure devotee means to imbibe the taste of pure devotion always in the transcendental activities of the Personality of Godhead. This transcendental taste at once makes all material things distasteful
- Initiation does not mean they have completed all spiritual perfection and now they can relax but it means now they have begun spiritual life
- Initiation means beginning of the activities
- Initiation means seriously take up the... And if you make it a fun business, then I become implicated, you become implicated
- Initiation means the beginning of becoming a sadhu
- Inquiry means sravanam. Inquiry means to get the answer; that is hearing. And then assimilate. Then kirtanam, then distribute the knowledge to the world
- Intelligence is good, but over-intelligence means rascal
- Intelligence means... One who knows what he is, what is this world, what is God, what are the interrelations - he is intelligent
- Intelligent means that I have no freedom actually. I am acting under the dictation of my senses. I am servant of my senses. So why not become servant of Krsna? This is intelligent. Everyone is acting under senses, order of the senses
- Intelligent persons, they should try to get the ultimate transmigration. Ultimate transmigration means go back to home, back to Godhead. That should be the actual aim of life. That is first class intelligent
- Intoxication does not mean simply liquor. Intoxication means even tea-drinking. Tea is also intoxication, in slight degree. Tea, coffee, cigarettes - everything should be avoided
- Isvara, the Supreme Lord, is staying within the heart of every living entity. So every living entity means He is staying even with the cats, dogs, hogs, or any lower type of animal
- Isvarah paramah krsnah sac-cid-ananda-vigrahah (Bs. 5.1). The word isvara means "controller." Nature is not controlling itself; the real controller is Krsna
- It has been decided (niruktam) by expert saintly persons that Krsna is the root of everything and that worshiping Krsna is worshiping everyone, just as supplying water to the root of a tree means satisfying all of its branches and twigs
- It is (devotional service) the most direct, and it is the easiest means for association with the Godhead. BG 1972 purports
- It is a fact that we are transmigrating from one body to another, one planet to another. That is a fact. Just like I have come to your country, similarly I may go to another planet. It is the question of how to go there, what is the means

- Janma sarthaka kari' kara para-upakara (CC Adi 9.41). This is Caitanya. First of all, make your life successful. That successful means yei krsna-tattva-vetta sei guru haya (CC Madhya 8.128), to understand Krsna thoroughly. Then you become guru
- Janmady asya yatah (SB 1.1.1). This means that the Supreme Personality of Godhead, or the Supreme Person, Brahman, the Absolute Truth, is the source from whom everything emanates
- Jantu means animal. Although he's living entity, he's not called jiva soul. He's called jantu. Jantur dehopapattaye. Jantu. This material body is developing for the jantu, animal
- Jayasri Dasi, means victory, and if you will simply continue to develop your KC by following the rules and regulations, then surely your life will be very victorious in defeating all contaminations of the material world and in returning back to Home
- Jesus Christ is preaching first thing, "Thou shalt not kill." That means he was preaching among the killers. So what kind of men they are? Tenth class of men
- Jijnasa, enquiry, means not for any other purpose, any political, social or this . . . so many things are there in this material world. But real jijnasa is brahma-jijnasa. That is, the Vedanta-sutra begins
- Jitendriya means one who has full control over the senses. The senses are active parts of the body, and their activities cannot be stopped
- Jiva-bhuta, the living entities, they have been described as prakrti, and prakrti means female. And Krsna has been described as purusa. So purusa is the enjoyer, and prakrti is the enjoyed
- Jnana means knowledge received through disciplic succession from the scriptures, and vijnana means practical application of such knowledge. Kapila Muni's Sankhya system of philosophy is based on jnana and vijnana
- Jnana means that one understands the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Visnu, to be the Supreme Being. Vijnana refers to the activities that liberate one from the ignorance of material existence
- Jnana means theoretical knowledge and vijnana means practical knowledge. So we have to do it practically, not that "I have read Bhagavad-gita and Bhagavata. So I have become a devotee." No
- Jnana means theoretical knowledge, and vijnana means practical knowledge. Simply to know "God is great," that is not sufficient
- Jnana means theoretical knowledge, and vijnana refers to practical knowledge
- Jnana means to understand that "I am not this material body. I do not belong to this material body. I am a spirit soul. I am part and parcel of Krsna. Krsna is the Supreme Spirit, and I belong to the spiritual world"
- Jnana, knowledge, means distinguishing between spirit and matter. And this knowledge should be cultivated and taken full advantage in this life. That is succesful life
- Jnana, or knowledge, means knowledge of everything of Brahman, the Supreme; renunciation means detachment of material affection, and devotional service is the revival by practice of the original position of the living being
- Jnanam means ordinary knowledge or any branch of knowledge
- Jnanam means you must know things theoretical knowledge and practical knowledge. That is, jnanam means theoretical knowledge. And vijnanam means practical knowledge
- Jnanavan means the first-class intelligent wise. Mam prapadyate. He understands what is Krsna
- Jnane prayasam udapasya namanta eva (SB 10.14.3). Just become submissive. Submission means that we cannot understand Krsna, simply just serve, that's all, and develop your dormant love. That is perfect
- Jnanis means the wise men or persons who are very much aware of everything. So they can understand the impersonal feature of the Absolute Truth
- Just like a chaste woman has got good reputation, similarly, a chaste tongue... Chaste tongue means... Chaste tongue and ear. Jihvadau. Our spiritual life begins from tongue
- Just like a thief. He has got merit, but his merit is being used for stealing. So that is called duskrti. And sukrtina, just the opposite is sukrtina. Sukrti means one is acting or utilizing his merit for sukrti
- Just like because I love Krsna, therefore I have come to your country. I had no business to come to your country naturally. But we are preaching this Krsna consciousness movement means we love everyone
- Just like from the spiritual body, you have developed this material body, similarly, from the spiritual atom, you can develop your spiritual body. Tyaktva deham. Tyaktva deham means that giving up this material body, he develops his spiritual body
- Just like good citizen means he knows what is the government and what is the law of government. He is following. Similarly, religious person means he must know what is God and what are the words of God
- Just like good citizen means one who satisfies the government. Law-abiding. Good citizen. Similarly, good karma means who satisfies Lord Visnu, the Supreme Lord
- Just like good citizen means well-behaved, to abide by the state laws. So first thing is religion, to learn how to become God conscious. This is the first business of human society
- Just like if you take proper medicine for curing your disease, the more your disease is cured, you feel healthy life. Pure life means healthy life, and impure life means unhealthy life
- Just like law means obedience to the state, and one who obeys the laws of the state, he is good citizen, similarly, the laws given by God, one who obeys the law, he is religious or saintly person
- Just like lawyer and the litigants - via media is the law book. Similarly, the spiritual master, the scripture . . . saintly person means who confirms the Vedic injunction, who accepts
- Just like lawyer, representative of the law, means who carries the order of the supreme executer. He is lawyer. Similarly, a spiritual master means who carries the order of superior authority. We are carrying the order of Caitanya Mahaprabhu or Krsna
- Just like one married couple. As soon as they're married or united, atah grha. Grha. Grha means apartment, home. They must live very nicely
- Just like one, a person, is suffering from fever, so according to Ayurvedic medicine, tri-katu... Tri means three, and katu means bitter. Tri-katu, just like nim, nim fruits, kalamegha and cirata. They are prescribed, very bitter to eat
- Just like ordinary animals, they have got four legs, no hand. So these four-legged animals is the food for the two-legged animals. Ahastani sahastanam. Uncivilized men means two-legged animals. They are animals, but two-legged
- Just like the sun rises early in the morning, say, after twelve years er, twelve hours. Similarly, Krsna's coming here, there is calculation in the sastra. He comes once in a day of Brahma. Means some crores of years after He comes
- Just like we are living in a state, either in England or in Germany or in America or in India, there are state rules and regulations. Good citizen means who are abiding by the state laws. Similarly, a devotee means who is abiding by the laws given by God
- Just like your body, my body - progress means from babyhood, childhood, boyhood, youthhood. That is, up to that, youthhood, progress. Then as soon as youthhood passed, old age comes in, then dwindling, then finish. That means janma-sthiti-pralaya
- Just like your coat and shirt cannot have hands and legs without you having your hands and legs; similarly, this material body which is considered as dress means it has developed on the personal body of the spiritual form. This is called savisesa-vada
- Just to tolerate little and chant HK, pray to Krsna, "Please save me from these disturbances." And we should materially also control. Control means atyaharah prayasas ca prajalpo niyamagrahah (NOI 2). Atyaharah, too much eating, that is also agitating

- Kalau, in this age, most, major portion of the population will be sudras. Sudras means fourth-class men. Fourth-class men means sudra-karma svabhava-jam
- Kama means "lusty desire," and lobha means "greed." people cannot have enough sex or money, and because of this, their hearts are filled with contaminations, which have to be cleansed by hearing, repeating and chanting
- Kaminam means lusty. The lusty people, they do like that. They do not care for society, do not care for elderly persons, do not care that - People will not like this
- Kapiladeva was one of the mahajanas. The word mahajana means - authority
- Karma is not sinful. Karma means according to the direction of the Vedas. That is called karma-kanda. But vikarma means against the principle of dharma. That is called vikarma
- Karma means ordinary work. I work whole day; I get some remuneration and enjoy for my sense gratification. That is called karma, in this life or that life or next life
- Karma means regulated work, and vikarma means just the opposite - unlawful, forbidden activities. The word akarma means that one is not affected by the results of work
- Kecit means "somebody, "very rarely." "Somebody" means "very rarely." It is not so easy thing to become vasudeva-parayanah
- Keep them alive. "Simply because we have opened a center, the business is finished." No. Alive means this morning class must go on, evening class must go on, there must be regular program for prasada distribution. Busy. That is alive
- Kevalena means "only by black methods," adharmena means "unrighteous" or "irreligious," and kutumba-bharana means "family maintenance
- Killing means he's being implicated in sinful activities. Anartha, unnecessary. So we restrict this
- King means the supreme executive head of government. They could understand that, "These things are now coming." Drstva, seeing practically
- Kirtana and prasada will appeal to even the uneducated. We have means to preach to both the educated and uneducated, the sinful and the pious - dhiradhira-jana-priyau
- Kirtana means glorification. Kirtana is preaching, glorifying and speaking about the Lord. Pariksit Maharaja attained perfection simply by listening to Srimad-Bhagavatam. This is sravanam kirtanam
- Kirtana means sravanam kirtanam visnoh (SB 7.5.23) - hearing and chanting about Visnu, Krsna. The Vedic literature recommends harer nama (CC Adi 17.21), chanting of the holy name of Hari, Krsna, and no one else
- Kirtana means sravanam kirtanam visnoh, Visnu-kirtana. But these rascals have discovered because they are very fertile brain and they can discover so many things
- Kirtanam actually means "describing." We can describe with music, words, pictures, etc. Sravanam goes hand in hand with kirtanam, for unless we hear, we cannot describe
- Knowing the personality of Gaurasundara means knowing the personalities sri-krsna-caitanya prabhu-nityananda sri-advaita gadadhara srivasadi-gaura-bhakta-vrnda. The author of CC, pursuant to the authorities, stresses this principle for perfection in KC
- Krama also means 'power,' 'trembling,' 'a systematic method,' 'argument' and 'a forcible attack by stepping forward.' Thus Vamana caused the three worlds to tremble
- Krishna maintains 16,000 families, and if you get a chance to serve in one of the families, then your life is a success. Real sannyasa means no more interest in material activities, but simply dedicated to Krishna's service
- Krs means "attraction," and na means ananda, or "bliss." Krsna is known as Mukunda because He wants to give everyone spiritual, eternal, blissful life
- Krsna adds, "he whose mind is controlled and strives by right means is assured of success. That is My judgement." - Bg. 6.36
- Krsna and Balarama would pile up planks so that They could reach the pots and would then pick holes in the pots with Their hands so that the contents would leak out and They could drink it. This was another means for stealing butter and milk
- Krsna and His unalloyed devotees cannot be separated, and therefore glorifying the devotee means glorifying the Lord and vice versa
- Krsna being the Supreme Personality of Godhead, as soon as we think of Krsna, this means all the energies of Krsna. That is complete by saying, "Radha-Krsna." Radha represents all the energy of Krsna
- Krsna bhuliya jiva bhoga vancha kare, we wanted to enjoy, to lord it over this material world, He has given us chance, "All right, enjoy. Enjoy to your best capacity." But He is witnessing. Witnessing means you want something, Krsna is supplying
- Krsna cannot be under the influence of material energy. Just like, what is called, shade and light. They are the same thing, but shade means the other side of light, absence of light. But light can be there at any time
- Krsna comes in one day of Brahma. The duration of Brahma's day you know, that is described in the Bhagavad-gita: sahasra-yuga-paryantam ahar yad brahmano viduh (BG 8.17). This means forty-three lakhs of years multiplied by one thousand
- Krsna Conscious government means Vedic government
- Krsna conscious life means innocent devotional life, and a sadhu is one who is fully devoted to Krsna
- Krsna consciousness is a type of morality which is above social meaning. It is transcendental. Social means guided by the three modes of material nature. But Krsna's order is above, transcendental
- Krsna consciousness means constantly associating with the Supreme Personality of Godhead in such a mental state that the devotee can observe the cosmic manifestation exactly as the Supreme Personality of Godhead does
- Krsna consciousness movement is training of nivrtti-marga, the basic principles, so many no's. "No" means nivrtti. No illicit sex, no meat-eating, no gambling, no intoxication. So this is the no, "no" path
- Krsna consciousness movement is trying to save people from the hog civilization or dog civilization to human civilization. Human civilization means plain living and advancing in spiritual consciousness, not to increase unnecessarily artificial way of life
- Krsna consciousness, or devotional service, means purifying the senses. That's all. We haven't got to eradicate, get out of the sensual activities. No. We have simply to purify the senses
- Krsna continued, "Such a beautiful girl as you (hunchbacked woman) are the only means of solace for persons like Us, who are away from home and not married. Certainly, a suitable girlfriend like you can give Us relief from all kinds of mental agitation"
- Krsna did not go to find out a Vedantist to teach, a so-called Vedantist. "A Vedantist" means he's devotee. Veda. Veda means knowledge, and anta means ultimate
- Krsna had to conquer such queen by fighting. They're not ordinary wife. But still, they say that "In this way I have become maidservant." So everyone is maidservant. We are also maidservant, prakrti. Prakrti means female
- Krsna has explained this material world, bhumir apah analo vayuh. This is also nature, prakrti. There is another nature, prakrti. Prakrti means stri-linga, woman. Jiva-bhuta, the living entities, are not mentioned in this connection as purusa. Not purusa
- Krsna has said that sannyasa, real sannyasa, means one who does not take any remuneration for his service to Krsna. That is sannyasa
- Krsna is known as Hari. Hari means "he who takes away." Krsna immediately takes away all unclean habits from anyone who takes to Krsna consciousness
- Krsna is known as Madana-mohana. Madana means Cupid. Cupid enchants everyone, but Krsna is known as Madana-mohana because He is so beautiful that He enchants even Cupid
- Krsna is like the sun, and maya, or the illusory energy of Krsna, is like darkness. Darkness means absence of light; similarly, maya means absence of Krsna consciousness
- Krsna is not alone. Supreme..., any person, he can not be alone. Just like we are here, we are not alone. We are so many friends, so many associates. So person does not mean alone. Person means with associates
- Krsna is realized in different degrees as Brahman, Paramatma and the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Krsna consciousness means, concisely, to be always engaged in the transcendental loving service of the Lord. BG 1972 purports
- Krsna is sometimes called vanamali. Vana means forest and mali means gardener, so vanamali refers to one who extensively uses flowers and garlands on different parts of His body
- Krsna says in the Bhagavad-gita that I am sex life performed according to religious principles. Sex life for any other purpose means illicit sex
- Krsna says that these are the eight material elements: earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence and false ego. False ego means false identification
- Krsna says, "I have no enemies, nor have I friends." Na me dvesyo 'sti na priyah. The word dvesya means - enemy
- Krsna says, "If you want to know Me, then you have to accept this bhakti-yoga. No other means will . . ." because without full surrender unto Krsna, nobody can know Him
- Krsna science means full spiritual knowledge. That is accepted by the acaryas
- Krsna was so merciful that in order to claim all these people, means the lowest of mankind, miscreant, and fools, and rascals, rejected, so He came in the form of Lord Caitanya to reclaim them
- Krsna's appearance means paritranaya sadhunam vinasaya ca duskrtam (BG 4.8) - the devotees are protected, and the miscreants are vanquished
- Krsna's lila, from His birth up to the disappearance, that is always existing. Disappearance means disappearance from my eyes. Krsna does not disappear
- Krsna's pastimes means there must be devotees; otherwise, with whom Krsna will play? Krsna does not play with any other one unless they are devotees
- Krsna, being unlimitedly potent, decided to wait for an intelligent means by which He could simultaneously save the boys and kill the demon. Then He entered the mouth of Aghasura - SB 10.12.28
- Krsna, the Supreme Lord, is the foremost living entity. The word rsabha means "the chief," or "the supreme," and indicates the Supreme Being, or God Himself
- Krsna, this word, means all-attractive. Krsna is attractive to every living entities, not only human being, even the animals, birds, bees, trees, flowers, fruits, water
- Krsna-katha means narrations about Lord Krsna. There are two krsna-kathas: narrations spoken by Krsna and narrations spoken about Krsna
- Krsna-mayi means "one whose within and without are Lord Krsna." She sees Lord Krsna wherever She casts Her glance
- Ksatriya means one who gives protection (to) a man being hurt by others. That is the real root meaning, ksatriya. And Vaisya means they should krsi-goraksya-vanijyam, they should engage themselves in producing foodstuff, food grains, krsi, protect cows
- Ksatriyas should be trained means they should be advised by the brahmanas
- Ksayaya jagatah ahitah (BG 16.9). Ksayaya means "For destruction and for mischievous condition." Therefore, despite all advancement of so-called scientific knowledge, the world becoming more and more in dangerous and destructive condition
- Ksetra means the place, and one who knows the place is called the ksetrajna
- Kunti, however, is aware of birth and death, and she is anxious not to repeat this process. This is indicated by the words apunar bhava-darsanam (SB 1.8.25). If one always sees Krsna, one is in KC, for Krsna consciousness means always thinking of Krsna
- Kuntidevi says, na yasya kascid dayitah. The word dayita means "favor." Krsna favors no one. Dvesyas ca: and no one is His enemy
- Kuntidevi speaks of apunar bhava-darsanam (SB 1.8.25). The prefix a means "not," and punar bhava means "repetition of birth and death." The real danger is the repetition of birth and death. That must be stopped
- Kuntidevi therefore says, tatha paramahamsanam: (SB 1.8.20) "You are meant to be understood by the paramahamsas." The word parama means "ultimate," and hamsa means "swan." So paramahamsa means - the perfect swan

- Law is meant for human beings, not for the animals. Those who want to be free, they are animals. So-called freedom means animalism
- Law means the word given by the state. You cannot make law at home. That is not possible. Whatever the government gives you, that "You should act like this," that is law
- Law, if there is change . . . actually, there is no change. There cannot be change. Real law means there is no change
- Laws of material nature means karma. You act in certain way and you get the result, good or bad; that is called karma. Sat-karma or asat-karma
- Leader means one who has become first-class disciple. He is leader. Evam parampara-prapta... One who is perfectly following
