- Although Arjuna is addressed herein (BG 4.5) as the mighty hero who could subdue the enemies, he is unable to recall what had happened in his various past births. BG 1972 purports
- Although Maharaja Priyavrata was already a liberated person and had no attraction for material things, he engaged himself fully in governmental affairs just to show respect to Lord Brahma. Arjuna had also acted in the same way

- Amongst the sons of Pandu, Arjuna is famous and valiant. Indeed, he is the best of men and therefore represents Krsna. BG 1972 purports

- He (Arjuna) is asking what becomes of the unsuccessful yogi, or the person who attempts to perform yoga but somehow desists and does not succeed. It is something like a student who does not get his degree because he drops out of school
- He (Arjuna) is now convinced that Krsna is the cause of all causes and is present in everyone's heart as the Supersoul. BG 1972 purports
- He (Arjuna) is perplexed, "Which one, which side will be glorious? I shall stop fighting or not fighting?" When you are in such perplexity, what to do and what not to do, so in order to get right direction, you must approach the spiritual master
- He (Arjuna) is speaking, - Even in exchange of kingdom of the three worlds, I am not prepared to fight

- He (Arjuna) received dandastra from Yamaraja, pasastra from Varuna, and antardhana-astra from Kuvera, the treasurer of the heavenly kingdom
- He (Arjuna) sought refuge in Krsna consciousness, and that is the right path for peace and harmony. BG 1972 purports
- He (Arjuna) thinks that sannyasa, or renunciation in knowledge, should be altogether free from all kinds of activity, because work and renunciation appear to him to be incompatible
- He (Arjuna) thinks that sannyasam, or renunciation in knowledge, should be altogether free from all kinds of activity because work and renunciation appear to him to be incompatible. BG 1972 purports
- He (Arjuna) traveled through countries like Antagiri, Ulukpur and Modapur and brought under subjugation all the rulers
- He (Arjuna) was awarded the specific eyes to see this visva-rupa, yet although he was able to see the Lord's innumerable hands and mouths, he was unable to see Him completely
- He (Arjuna) was thinking in terms of his own benefit, "Whether I shall go to hell or heaven." That was his contemplation. Therefore he was taught Bhagavad-gita
- He (Arjuna) would go to hell, not by fighting, but by withdrawing from battle. BG 1972 purports

- He (God) is accepted as the Supreme Personality of Godhead by learned scholars & saints like Vyasadeva, Narada, Asita and Devala in the past & by Arjuna in the BG as by the acaryas like Sankara, Ramanuja, Madhva and Lord Sri Caitanya in the modern age
- He (Krsna) again spoke the science of Bhagavad-gita to Arjuna because the parampara was broken. Sa kaleneha nastah. Otherwise there was no need of speaking Bhagavad-gita to Arjuna
- He (Krsna) appears not to have understood that work in full knowledge is nonreactive and is therefore the same as inaction. He inquires, therefore, whether he should cease work altogether, or work with full knowledge. BG 1972 purports
- He (Krsna) concluded a long detailed account of these manifestations by saying (BG 10.42): But what need is there, Arjuna, for all this detailed knowledge? With a single fragment of Myself I pervade and support these entire universes
- He (Krsna) is free from bodily needs, birth and death. Not only does Arjuna confirm this, but all the Vedic literatures. BG 1972 purports

- He (Pradyumna) was one of those who went to congratulate Arjuna upon his marrying Subhadra
- Here in this army there are many heroic bowmen equal in fighting to Bhima and Arjuna; there are also great fighters like Yuyudhana, Virata and Drupada. BG 1.4 - 1972

- His (Arjuna's) samskara of being given a name was performed in the presence of the rsis, residents of Satasrnga
- His necks were bluish, as were His tongues. Thus Arjuna saw the Sesa Naga form, and he also saw that on the very soft, white body of Sesa Naga, Lord Maha-Visnu was lying very comfortably
I
- I (Krsna) have heard that after King Pandu's death, his young sons - Yudhisthira, Bhima, Arjuna, Nakula and Sahadeva - along with their widowed mother, have come under the charge of Dhrtarastra, who is to look after them as their guardian
- I am (Arjuna) accustomed to thinking of them (son and grandfather) with affection in terms of the body, and so there must be grief and suffering
- I am now unable to stand here any longer. I am forgetting myself, and my mind is reeling. I foresee only evil, O killer of the Kesi demon. BG 1.30 - 1972
- I can find no means to drive away this grief which is drying up my senses. I will not be able to destroy it even if I win an unrivalled kingdom on the earth with sovereignty like that of the demigods in heaven. BG 2.8 - 1972
- I have dishonored You many times while relaxing or while lying on the same bed or eating together, sometimes alone and sometimes in front of many friends. Please excuse me for all my offenses. BG 11.41-42 - 1972
- I have great respect for Manipur, which was a Kshatriya kingdom long before Arjuna. You can do it, you are educated and a devotee, and we shall all help you. That is wanted

- If he (Arjuna) stopped fighting, they would die in another way. Death cannot be checked, even if he did not fight. In fact, they were already dead. BG 1972 purports
- If one does whatever Krsna says, his activities are not material. For example, when Arjuna fought in response to the order of Krsna, his activities were not material
- If one wants to understand Bhagavad-gita, he cannot take help from other methods. He must understand it as prescribed in Bhagavad-gita itself, by understanding it as Arjuna understood it
- If one, with faith, follows some rules which are not mentioned in the scriptural injunctions, what is his position? This doubt of Arjuna is to be cleared by Krsna. BG 1972 purports
- If such things (that Arjuna couldn't protect the brahmanas, children, cows, women and the diseased) had actually happened to Arjuna, Maharaja Yudhisthira was anxious to know about these discrepancies
- If we daily manufacture a kind of dharma according to my concoction or we accept everything as real dharma, that is a mistake. Dharma means the order given by God, and if you follow that, or execute that order as Arjuna did, then you are dharmika
- If we give up the process of understanding as Arjuna did, then you'll never be able to understand Krsna, or God. That is not possible. You have to take up the process which Arjuna accepted
- If we say that Krsna is not physically present as He was present before Arjuna, still, His book, Bhagavad-gita, is there. And that Bhagavad-gita is nondifferent from Krsna. Krsna and Krsna's teaching, the same, absolute. That is Absolute Truth
- If we want to solve the problems of life, we should accept Krsna as the supreme teacher. This is the instruction of Bhagavad-gita and Arjuna
- If you (Arjuna) think that the soul (or the symptoms of life) is always born and dies forever, you still have no reason to lament, O mighty-armed
- If you take the instruction of Arjuna, then you will understand the Absolute Truth. So what is the instruction of Arjuna? Find out in the tenth chapter

- In Bhagavad-gita we are warned: O best among men (Arjuna), the person who is not disturbed by happiness and distress and is steady in both is certainly eligible for liberation - BG 2.15
- In charge of the various necessities of life, the demigods, being satisfied by the performance of yajna, will supply all necessities to you. But he who enjoys such gifts without offering them to the demigods in return is certainly a thief

- In the beginning, Arjuna did not like to fight. He was a good . . . good man, religious man, devotee. Naturally he was not inclined to fight with his relatives, kinsmen
- In the beginning, Arjuna, he's thinking in terms of his blunt senses. But the same thing he will do. Atyantikam, atindriya, purified senses. Just try to understand. This is Krsna consciousness
- In the material world, Krishna also has eternal associates, such as Arjuna and Kunti Devi
- In the previous chapter (BG 1) he (Arjuna) was arguing with Krsna, giving evidences from sastra on the bodily concept of life. But he does not know the sastras say, - One who is in the bodily concept of life, he is no better than an ass or cow

- It is general etiquette that superiors are not to be offered even a verbal fight. Even if they are sometimes harsh in behavior, they should not be harshly treated. Then, how is it possible for Arjuna to counterattack them? BG 1972 purports
- It is mentioned here that Bhisma, who is supposed to be unconquerable, will also be smashed. So also Karna. Not only will the great warriors of the other party like Bhisma be smashed, but some of the great warriors of Arjuna's side also. BG 1972 purports
- It is not because Krsna is an intimate friend of Arjuna that he is flattering Him by calling Him the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the Absolute Truth. Whatever Arjuna says in these 2 verses (of BG 10.12-13) is confirmed by Vedic truth. BG 1972 purports
- It is not possible to decry Krsna and at the same time have the divine vision. One cannot have the divine vision without becoming divine. In other words, those who have divine vision can also see like Arjuna. BG 1972 purports
- It is said that Arjuna is an empowered incarnation of Nara-Narayana. He is even sometimes called Nara-Narayana. The Nara-Narayana incarnation is also one of Lord Visnu's plenary expansions
- It is said that the soul is invisible, inconceivable and immutable. Knowing this, you (Arjuna) should not grieve for the body
- It is very common for us, like Arjuna, to try to dissipate our disillusionments by our own devices, culled from our own mundane experience. This attempt to remove our daily bodily and mental difficulties is always misdirected
- It is, however, to be understood that the indirect process is not recommended for Arjuna because he is already at the stage of loving devotional service to the Supreme Lord. It is for others who are not at this state. BG 1972 purports
J

- Krsna is supported not only by the Vedas and by the demigods, headed by Lord Brahma, and authorities like Vyasadeva, Asita, Devala, and Arjuna, who heard Bhagavad-gita personally from the Supreme Personality of Godhead
- Krsna is the original cause of everything. Arjuna recognized Lord Sri Krsna as the original person, and the Brahma-samhita describes Him as the original person. He is the cause of all causes, whether at the beginning, at the end or in the middle
- Krsna knows that unless Arjuna becomes affected family-wise, how Bhagavad-gita will be there? Therefore although Gudakesa, Arjuna, is above darkness, still, by the will of Krsna, Hrsikesa, he played just like ordinary man, affected with family affection

- Lord Krsna exhibited this virat or visva-rupa to Arjuna just to convince the impersonalists that He is the original Personality of Godhead. Krsna exhibited the virat-rupa; it is not that Krsna was exhibited by the virat-rupa
- Lord Krsna in His personal form is here (BG 7.24) speaking before Arjuna, and still, due to ignorance, impersonalists argue that the Supreme Lord ultimately has no form. BG 1972 purports

- Lord Krsna thus informed Arjuna: "They (happiness and distress) arise from sense perception, O scion of Bharata, and one must learn to tolerate them without being disturbed." All the distresses brought about by the body come and go

- One day Lord Balarama invited this particular sannyasi (Arjuna) to lunch at His home. Balaramaji very respectfully offered him all kinds of palatable dishes, and the so-called sannyasi was eating sumptuously
- One should not fail to keep his promise to give in charity. These discrepancies are sometimes causes of despondency, and thus failing, a person becomes subjected to criticism, which might also be the cause of Arjuna's plight
- One should not guess or speculate about an incarnation of God or the Personality of Godhead. One has to learn from the bona fide person or from the Supreme Personality of Godhead Himself, as Arjuna did, by the mercy of Krsna

- Ramananda Raya, who is considered an incarnation of Arjuna and by some an incarnation of Visakhadevi, enjoyed unalloyed fraternal love with the Lord. Unalloyed personal service was enjoyed by Govinda and others

- Royal families at Manipur and Tripura are descendants of Arjuna's son Babhruvahana
S

- She (Kunti) called for the demigod Vayu (air), and thus Bhima was born. She called for Indra, the King of heaven, and thus Arjuna was born. The other two sons, namely Nakula and Sahadeva, were begotten by Pandu himself in the womb of Madri
- She (Kunti) got Maharaja Yudhisthira from Dharmaraja, Arjuna from Indra, and Bhima from Varuna, Vayu, yes. Similarly, still she is one of the chaste women. These things are there. But still, they are not polluted

- So Arjuna kept upon him Vajrangaji, Hanuman, because he considered Hanuman his guru
- So far the Bhagavad-gita is concerned every one, let him be a very great scholar in the mundane sense, must be in confirmed position along with the mode of understanding of Shri Arjuna. That is the crucial point of testing an Acarya false or real
- So the first step Krsna took in educating Arjuna... The Bhagavad-gita is now being actually being spoken, bhagavan uvaca. The first basic principle is explained to Arjuna that "You do not know anything. Don't talk just like a learned man."

- Sometimes Arjuna is addressed as Partha. It comes from the meaning, root meaning, of Arjuna's mother's father, grandfather
