- Simple hearing (Srimad-Bhagavatam) is not all; one must realize the text with proper attention. The word nivista means that Suta Gosvami drank the juice of Bhagavatam through his ears. That is the real process of receiving Bhagavatam

- Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura suggests that the rsis like Saunaka and others who were hearing Srimad-Bhagavatam from Suta Gosvami at Naimisaranya were not happy to hear about the Yadu's dying in the madness of intoxication
- Srimad-Bhagavatam (SB 1.2.17) says: One should regularly hear Srimad-Bhagavatam from a self-realized Vaisnava. By such hearing, one becomes pious. As one thus hears the Bhagavatam regularly & sincerely, his heart is purified of all material contamination
- Srimad-Bhagavatam gives the right knowledge of one's own self, and by hearing Srimad-Bhagavatam one can get free from material attachment and enter into the kingdom of fearlessness

- That (hear Srimad-Bhagavatam regularly) will help one to see the Lord Sri Krsna manifested in one's heart within no time
- That (very anxious to see the Lord without making any serious effort to hear Srimad-Bhagavatam regularly) is not the way recommended by an authority like Maharaja Pariksit, who heard and benefited by hearing Srimad-Bhagavatam
- That very SB I (Sukadeva) shall recite before you because you are the most sincere devotee of Lord Krsna. One who gives full attention and respect to hearing Srimad-Bhagavatam achieves unflinching faith in the Supreme Lord, the giver of salvation

- The complete Bhagavatam was heard by Maharaja Pariksit and chanted by Sukadeva Gosvami. Maharaja Pariksit inquired from Sukadeva because Sukadeva was a greater spiritual master than any great yogi or transcendentalist of his time
- The conclusion is that simply by hearing the Vedic literature Srimad-Bhagavatam, one can have direct connection with Sri Krsna, and thereby one can attain the highest perfection of life by transcending worldly miseries, illusion and fearfulness
- The crucial test of hearing Srimad-Bhagavatam is that one should get positive enlightenment by such an act
- The desire to hear with interest is the primary qualification for assimilating transcendental knowledge. Unfortunately people are not interested in patiently hearing the message of Srimad-Bhagavatam. The process is simple but the application difficult

- The first item, hearing, is the most important item of all, and therefore hearing of the Bhagavad-gita and, later on, Srimad-Bhagavatam is essential for the serious candidate who wants to attain the stage of Bhismadeva at the end
- The first process in the routine work of devotional service - hearing - is the essential point. Hearing by all classes of devotees from the authentic sources like Bhagavad-gita and Srimad-Bhagavatam is essential

- The Krsna consciousness movement has been established to give grhasthas all over the world an opportunity to hear Srimad-Bhagavatam and Bhagavad-gita specifically

- The realized souls in Krsna consciousness take continual pleasure in hearing such transcendental literatures (Srimad-Bhagavatam), just as a young boy and girl take pleasure in association. BG 1972 purports
- The result (of hearing Bhagavatam from Mayavadi sannyasi and seeing professional dramas) is that the members of the audience remain in the same position of grham andha-kupam, family affection, and do not awaken their love for Krsna

- The sages assembled in Naimisaranya hearing Srimad-Bhagavatam from Suta Gosvami were all brahmanas, but to acquire the qualifications of a brahmana is not everything. Merely to be twice-born is not perfection
- The simple method of hearing from the right source, Srimad-Bhagavatam, will lead one to the highest perfectional stage of yoga
- The Srimad-Bhagavatam deals with questions and answers that are related to Krsna, we can derive the highest satisfaction only by reading and hearing this transcendental literature
- The ten characteristics, as will be explained in the next chapter, require so many verses just to explain them properly. Brahmaji had also advised Narada previously that he should expand the idea he had heard from Brahmaji
- The whole world is full of Mayavadis, and when they become professional reciters of Srimad-Bhagavatam, and when people, without knowing the effect of the Mayavada philosophy, hear from such persons, they become confused

- There is a distinction between sex in the diseased condition of material life and sex in the spiritual existence. Srimad-Bhagavatam gradually elevates the unbiased reader to the highest perfectional stage of transcendence
- There is a sort of imitation of this reciting and hearing of Srimad-Bhagavatam by professional men, and their foolish audience thinks that they will get free from the clutches of material attachment and attain the life of fearlessness
- There is no utility simply in imitating Maharaja Pariksit and hearing Bhagavatam from professional men, even for seven hundred years. To take Srimad-Bhagavatam as a means of maintaining family expenditure is the grossest type of namaparadha
- There is now a system of Bhagavata business, with recitations called bhagavata-saptaha that continue for one week, although this is not mentioned in SB. Nowhere does SB say that the Bhagavatam should be heard for one week from professionals
- There was none so attentive as Maharaja Pariksit in the matter of hearing Srimad-Bhagavatam, and there was none so qualified as Sukadeva Gosvami to recite the text of Srimad-Bhagavatam
- These classes of Bhagavad-gita and Srimad-Bhagavatam as you are now holding must be continued very rigidly. About holding Sanskrit classes, the special stress should be given to chanting the mantras in our books
- These five are (so important in DS) (60) associating with devotees, (61) chanting the holy name of the Lord, (62) hearing the Srimad-Bhagavatam, (63) residing at a place of pilgrimage like Mathura, and (64) worshiping the Deity with faith and veneration
- They (pure devotees) became so powerful because they sincerely followed the Bhagavatam principles by regular hearing & worshiping. By such actions the accumulated material lusts, etc., become cleansed by the personal endeavor of the Lord within the heart
- They (the citizens of the state) should preach the principles of Bhagavatam by (a) karma-yoga, or doing everything for the satisfaction of the Lord, (b) regular hearing of the Srimad-Bhagavatam from authorized persons or realized souls
- They (unfortunate people) indulge in hearing the portion of the Bhagavatam they are unfit to hear
- They are chanting loudly. They are eagerly hearing Gita and Bhagavata siddhanta. They are also practicing sadacara, leaving all bad habits. Also, they are taking Mahaprabhu's mahaprasada. By doing this their lives are becoming successful
- This (hear Srimad-Bhagavatam from a person who has no connection with material activities, or, in other words, from a paramahamsa Vaisnava), of course, is not possible unless one takes shelter of the lotus feet of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu
- This (reading or hearing Srimad-Bhagavatam starting from the Tenth Canto) is forbidden by such authorities as Sri Brahmaji
- This highest stage of relationship with the Lord can be attained simply by hearing about Him (His name, form, quality, etc.) from authentic sources like Bhagavad-gita and Srimad-Bhagavatam, recited by pure, unalloyed devotees of the Lord
- This literature (Srimad Bhagavatam), which is called Vaisnava literature, should not be heard from a person who is not a devotee. This point I have several times stressed
- This purification (purification from ignorance and passion) is automatically attained by a devotee constantly engaged in hearing the transcendental message of Godhead in the form of the Bhagavad-gita, Srimad-Bhagavatam or similar scriptures
- This seven days' discussion (between Sukadeva Gosvami and Pariksit Maharaja) is imitated by the professional Bhagavata reciters in India. But that is not required. We have to hear Srimad-Bhagavatam daily
- This system (of hearing and chanting) is recommended in Srimad-Bhagavatam, & the six Gosvamis of Vrndavana followed it, but at the present moment many karmis and pseudo devotees have overcrowded the holy place of Vrndavana just to imitate this process
- This unflinching faith in Lord Krsna prepares one to become a student of Srimad-Bhagavatam, and one who hears Srimad-Bhagavatam from a devotee like Sukadeva Gosvami is sure to attain salvation at the end, as Maharaja Pariksit did
- This verse (SB 1.18.18) definitely proves that Srila Sukadeva Gosvami did not refuse to teach Suta Gosvami about the transcendental science nor did the sages of Naimisaranya refuse to hear lessons from him because of his inferior birth
- Those who are determined to continue following the materialistic way of life, will never awaken their dormant love of Krsna, for they hear the Bhagavatam only to solidify their position in household life and to be happy in family affairs and sex
- Those who are fit to assimilate the messages of Bhagavatam are mentioned in the very beginning (SB 1.1.2): A bona fide audience fit to hear Srimad-Bhagavatam is generated after many pious deeds
- Those who are fit to assimilate this work are mentioned in this sloka: "One becomes qualified to hear Srimad-Bhagavatam after many pious deeds"
- Those who are not strictly in the Vaisnava discipline should not make a business of this Bhagavatam and become a cause of spiritual death for so many hearers
- Those who are unfortunate will find time to hear ordinary social and political topics, but when they are invited to attend an assembly to hear Srimad-Bhagavatam, they are reluctant to attend
- Those willing to hear the message of this scripture in a submissive attitude of service can at once capture the Supreme Lord in their hearts. Therefore there is no need for any scripture other than Srimad-Bhagavatam
- Through such knowledge (of the self) one becomes detached from a materialistic way of life and engages himself in always hearing Srimad-Bhagavatam, Bhagavad-gita and other Vedic literatures
- To be fully engaged in hearing the transcendental narration described in the text of Srimad-Bhagavatam means to constantly associate with the Supreme Soul, Sri Krsna
- To hear about Krsna from Srimad-Bhagavatam or Bhagavad-gita or similar authentic literature is to live in Krsna consciousness
- To hear Srimad-Bhagavatam or Bhagavad-gita from a realized person and to live in a sacred place where devotional service is not disturbed are the first out of sixty-four devotional activities for making progress in devotional service
- To hear Srimad-Bhagavatam, (4) to see the decorated temple and the Deity and, if possible, (5) to live in a place like Vrndavana or Mathura. These items alone can help a devotee achieve the highest perfectional stage
W
- We are advocating that people take advantage of this institution, International society for Krishna consciousness by hearing about God from authorized books like Bhagavad Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam which were directly spoken by God himself
- We are also publishing Srimad-Bhagavatam in sixty volumes. Wherever a speaker holds discourses from these books and an audience hears him, this will create a good and auspicious situation
- We are hearing Srimad-Bhagavatam. This is knowledge also. And when you see there are three kinds of receiving knowledge . . . One is sruti. Sruti means hearing. So our Vedic process is that we hear the Vedic information, and we become perfect
- We can increase our propensity for devotional service by hearing Bhagavad-gita and Srimad-Bhagavatam from realized souls. The more we hear from realized souls, the more we make advancement in our devotional life
- We cannot live for a moment without being questioned or without giving answers. Because the SB deals with questions and answers that are related to Krsna, we can derive the highest satisfaction only by reading and hearing this transcendental literature
- We discuss (in the daily classes on Srimad-Bhagavatam) the subject matter very minutely and inspect it from all angles of approach and savor the new understandings
- We have got so many books, so many newspapers, so many magazines, we hear and read. But we are not interested in hearing Bhagavad-gita or Srimad-Bhagavatam, where atma-tattvam, the science of soul, is described
- We have heard about the symptoms of a first-class devotee in Srimad-Bhagavatam, and all those symptoms are manifest in the body of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu
- We have no taste for reading and hearing Srimad-Bhagavatam, but the taste will be created if we even by force sit down and attend Bhagavata class. The taste will be created
- When a pure Vaisnava speaks on Srimad-Bhagavatam and another pure Vaisnava hears Srimad-Bhagavatam from such a realized soul, both of them live in the transcendental world, where the contamination of the modes of material nature cannot touch them
- When he (Maharaja Pariksit) got the notice of his death, he immediately gave up all connection with household life and sat down on the bank of the Ganges to hear Srimad-Bhagavatam in the association of devotees
- When he was cursed that he would die within seven days, he became very serious, and all the sages and saintly persons agreed that, Maharaja Pariksit, for the last remaining days of his life, seven days, he should hear attentively Srimad-Bhagavatam
- When Sukadeva Gosvami recited Bhagavatam there (in the presence of Emperor Pariksit), I (Suta Goswami) heard him with rapt attention
- When they (the Mayavadis) become professional reciters of Srimad-Bhagavatam, and when people, without knowing the effect of the Mayavada philosophy, hear from such persons, they become confused
- When we speak of hearing & chanting, it means that not only should one chant & hear of the holy name of the Lord as Rama, Krsna (or systematically the 16 names of the maha-mantra), but one should also read & hear the BG & SB in the association of devotees
- While he stayed with Srila Rupa Gosvami, his engagement was to recite Srimad-Bhagavatam for him to hear. As a result of this Bhagavatam recitation, he attained perfectional love of Krsna, by which he remained always maddened
- Worshiping the Deity at home, serving the devotee, hearing the Srimad-Bhagavatam, residing in a holy place and chanting the holy name of the Lord are all inexpensive items by which one can please the Lord
Y
- Yes, the Bhagavata Dharma discourses here in New Vrindaban are going on very nicely and daily several hundred devotees and guests are coming to hear, and it is truly a wonderful time
- You can chant Hare Krsna and you can hear Bhagavad-gita or Srimad-Bhagavatam from persons who are in the knowledge. So there is no impediment. No impediment. It does not require any prequalification
- You should describe the symptoms of a devotee, how to associate with devotees, how to satisfy a devotee by rendering service, and how to give up the association of nondevotees. You should also explain the value of regularly hearing the recitation of SB
- Your question of how did Sukdev Goswami hear Srimad-Bhagavatam, it was in the womb of his mother
