- Controlling the senses, truthful, clean, full of knowledge, believing in the sastra and God, and vijnanam, practical application of knowledge in life, vijnanam . . . simply to know is useless. You must practically apply in life. That is called vijnanam

- Daiva-netrena means by superior examination. That is called the day of judgment in the Bible. Whether this soul is going to hell or heaven, that is the day of judgment
- Death is nothing but sleeping for seven months. That's all. Sleeping for seven months, that is called death
- Death means I have forgotten what was I was in the past life. That is called death. Otherwise I, as spirit soul, I have no death
- Death means to leave this body and carried by the subtle body to another gross body. That is called death. We are carried by the mind, intelligence and ego, subtle body. Just like we can experience a good scent of rose flower is carried by the air
- Dharma means to be situated in one's position. That is called dharma. dharma is not a kind of faith. Faith is sometimes blind. That is not dharma
- Dharma means your constitutional position and duty. That is called dharma. Just like the other day I explained. Just like chili should be pungent, sugar must be sweet, this is the idea. Water must be liquid. A stone must be solid. This is the dharma
- Dharma means your eternal occupation. That is called dharma: which you cannot avoid
- Dharma, when it is reverted, transferred to the service of the Lord, that is called real dharma
- Dharmasya glanih means when we defy authority. That is called discrepancy in the discharge of religiosity or occupational duty

- Don't take food, don't eat simply for satisfying your palate. That is called sense enjoyment. But you, just to keep yourself fit, just to keep your body fit for giving service to the Lord, you can eat Krsna prasada
- Durasaya means which cannot be fulfilled. You can hope something, you can... But it is hoping against hope. It will never be fulfilled. That is called durasa
- Duty means to follow the duty enjoined by the scriptures. That is called duty
- Dvija means second birth. One birth by the father and mother, and the other birth is by the spiritual master and Vedic knowledge. That is called second birth. Samskarad bhaved dvijah. At that time he is given chance to study and understand what is Vedas

- Eating, sleeping, fearing, and mating - sense gratification. So to arrange for these necessities of life of the body, the knowledge that we require, that is called mundane knowledge
- Education means brahma-vidya: to understand what is that living force within this body that is working, what is his position, constitutional position, how it is working, wherefrom it has come, so many things. That is called brahma-jijnasa
- Education means to enquire about the living force which is moving this body. That is education. This is not education, that we have manufactured nice car or nice machine. That is called craftsmanship
- Effulgence means minute particles of the soul assemble together, just like the sunshine is the combination of molecular shining parts. Similarly, we spiritual sparks, when we simply congregate one place, that is called brahmajyoti
- Even despite all facilities we cannot be able to accept it. That is called misfortune. Not that in the absence of money and other facilities, one becomes unfortunate, but even in the presence of all these things, one is unfortunate
- Even if it is chilly, they must take this regular bath. The duty must be done, even if there is a little suffering involved. That is called tapasya, or austerity
- Even if you study scrutinizingly, very scientifically or, whatever you may say, philosophically, you will have to accept a supreme arrangement, a supreme hand over everything. That is called Krsna consciousness
- Even in the presence of being agitated, one who is not agitated, that is called dhirah. Otherwise, everyone becomes agitated. That is natural

- Every member is being beaten with shoes, and he is simply challenging that, "I'll sue, I'll sue." This is going on. He's punished one after another, but he is so shameless that still he defies the authority. That is called asura
- Everyone has got a particular relationship with Krsna in his original, constitutional position. That will be revealed gradually as you advance in devotional service in the prescribed rules and regulation. That is called svarupa-siddhi

- First neutrality estimation... That is called santa-rasa, neutral, no activity but simply appreciating, "God is great," simply appreciation. And then servitude
- First of all you must know from the authorities what is the truth. Then you speak. Don't speak nonsense. It will not help you or your followers. That is called anukirtaya

- God has got this gigantic universal body, and God has got another body, which is smaller than yourself. It can sit down within your body. That is called smaller than the smallest
- God, in His Paramatma feature is sitting within everyone's heart - your heart, my heart, everyone's. You haven't got to find out God somewhere else. Therefore the yogis, they practice, "How to find out God within myself." That is called meditation
- Going to the forest is not the main purpose of life. Because in the forest there are many animals. Does it mean they are advanced in spiritual life? That is called markata-vairagya. Markata-vairagya means "monkey renunciation

- Gosvami means one who has conquered over the dictation of the senses. My sense dictates to do something, but when I am able to dictate the sense, "No, you cannot do it," that is called gosvami

- I am eternal. Na hanyate hanyamane sarire (BG 2.20). I do not die after this body is finished, and again I will have to . . . tatha dehantara-praptih (BG 2.13). So this is knowledge. One has to always think of this. That is called tapasya

- If I continue my materialistic way of life, then I am causing another material body. This is called karanam. If I have got a doggish mentality, then I am causing myself to get a dog's body
- If one attains perfection in Deity worship, that is called Arcana Siddhi. Arcana Siddhi means simply by Deity worship one goes back to Godhead, immediately after this life
- If one gives up the research work just after making a few steps' advance, oh, that will not help. One has to go on, go on with it with steadiness, that "What is God? I shall see." That is called jnani, jijnasu, philosopher, inquisitive
- If one is simply sticking up to the system without seeing "How much progress I am making in my life?" then that is waste of time. That is called niyamagraha, simply observing the rules
- If we act for Krsna, that is called yajna. Yajna means to act for the satisfaction of the Supreme Personality of Godhead or the supreme authority. Just like a good citizen. A good citizen means who is acting exactly to the regulative laws
- If we keep ourself on the material platform, then for thousand years we may chant, it will be difficult. That is called namaparadha. Of course, holy name is so powerful that even by chanting with offense, gradually he becomes pure

- If you give charity for Krsna activities, then there is no reaction. The... Of course, there is reaction. That is called transcendental reaction, that you will gradually become elevated into Krsna consciousness
- If you have got some faith, then you will find out some sadhu, sadhu or some saint, some sage, who can give you some spiritual enlightenment. That is called sadhu-sanga
- If you say: "Life is produced from chemicals," then you must make experimental demonstration: by mixing those chemicals you produce life. That is called vijnanam, practical demonstration. Otherwise it is not perfect
- If you take a nice fruit, mango, the taste is pleasing. That is called rasa, that taste. Anyway, anything enjoy, there is a rasa. Rasa. You love somebody, you kiss somebody, embrace somebody, there is a rasa
- If you understand these factors of the greatness of God perfectly well, then you become fit for being transferred to the spiritual world. That is called daivi sampad. This is cultivation. This is education. This is not sentiment

- Janma adi means birth is also coming from Krsna, maintained also by Him, and when it is destroyed, it goes unto Him. That is called janma adi, means birth, maintenance, and annihilation
- Jivatma is small, and Paramatma, or God, is great. That you know, every one of you. You say: "God is great," but how He is great, that we do not know. That we have to know. That is called God consciousness or Krsna consciousness
- Jnanam vijnanam astikyam brahma-karma svabhava-jam (BG 18.42). This is the business of brahmana, one who knows Brahman. Jnanam vijnanam astikyam. Astikyam means to have faith in the authoritative Vedic knowledge. That is called astikyam
- Joint mess program is not good. "You bring some money, you bring some money and spend us jointly for eating, sleeping." That is called joint mess. You know the joint mess? This word? What is that, meaning?

- Kala-visesah means part, part of the part, kala. Amsa, and amsa's amsa, that's called kala-viseso. So that kala-visesa, Krsna, Maha-Visnu, He's creating millions and millions of universes. So just imagine what is the creative power of Krsna
- Karma is not sinful. Karma means according to the direction of the Vedas. That is called karma-kanda. But vikarma means against the principle of dharma. That is called vikarma
- Karma means doing something for your personal benefit. That is called karma. Or, in plain words, doing something for sense gratification, that is called karma
- Karma means general activities on moral principle. That is called karma. Real karma means that you have to live, so you have to work. So work in such a way that you may not be entangled
- Karma means ordinary work. I work whole day; I get some remuneration and enjoy for my sense gratification. That is called karma, in this life or that life or next life
- Karma means prescribed duties. Prescribed duties. That is called karma. And vikarma means doing against the prescribed duties. That is called vikarma. And akarma means something doing which has no reaction

- Karma means you have to enjoy the result, fruitive result. That is called karma. And vikarma means punishable, papa. And akarma means you do something, but you are neither punishable nor rewardable
- Karma, jnana, yoga, these things are very popular. By karma, by activities, you can earn money and fulfill your material desire. That is called karma
- Karpanya-dosa. Miserly, dosa means fault. When one does not act according to his position, that is fault. And that is called miserly. So everyone has got his natural propensities, svabhava
- Kirtana means sometimes chanting with music, and sometimes speaking. Both of them are kirtana. Kirtayati iti kirtanam. Whenever we glorify the Lord, that is called kirtana. The Srimad-Bhagavatam reading is also kirtana
- Kovidah means expert learned scholars, and abhijata, they will immediately make horoscope and tell about this newly born child, what is going to happen in his life in future. That is called astrologer
- Krodha means anger. So it has also urge. Suppose I am insulted by somebody. Naturally I'll be angry, but if I can control, All right, let me . . . he's a foolish. He has done. Why shall I lose my temper?" that is called controlling krodha-vegam
- Krsna has expanded Himself as Visnu, Narayana, Vasudeva, Sankarsana, Aniruddha, so many, millions. There is no limit. That is called svamsa
- Krsna recommends, mayy asakta-manah . . . if we become attached, then our original relationship will be revealed. That is called svarupa-siddhi
- Krsna says that "By all Vedic knowledge, ultimately one must come to the point of knowing God." Therefore another name of God is Brahman, Para-brahman. So brahmana, brahmana means one who knows Brahman. That is called brahmana
- Krsna's service is transcendental, above good and bad. So that is called real knowledge. And if one is fortunate enough to understand this knowledge, then immediately he becomes detached to these material pious and impious activities
- Krsna, when He was present on this planet He practically demonstrated that He controlled everyone but nobody controlled Him. That is isvara. That is called paramesvara
- Krti. Krti means meritorious. But duskrti: badly meritorious. They are using their brain for something atrocious, simply planning how to do harm to others. That is called duskrtina

- Laws of material nature means karma. You act in certain way and you get the result, good or bad; that is called karma. Sat-karma or asat-karma
- Liberation means to be situated in his own real position. That is called li... So what is our position? If we become little sober, if we become little sober, then we can understand what is my position
- Love means love of Godhead. Otherwise, there is no love - only lust. Similarly, bhakti means, when this word used, bhakti-yoga, that is only in relationship with the bhakta, or devotee, and Bhagavan. That is called bhakti-yoga

- Ma means not, ya means this. "What you are thinking, it is not that." That is called maya. So they are in maya means, they are thinking, these rascals, they are thinking, improving, becoming happy, advancing this maya word will finish everything
- Man-made dharma is no dharma. That is called kaitava-dharma, cheating dharma. You cannot manufacture religion. But nowadays it has become fashion. Everyone is manufacturing his own religion. Therefore there is dharma-viparya
- Material life means every living entity has got these propensities. But they have to be restricted. Pravrttih esam bhutanam. That is natural instinct. But if you can stop them, that is your excellence. That is called tapasya
- Materialists, who are especially interested in sense gratification, are given permission or license to enjoy sense gratification by executing the Vedic ritualistic ceremonies. That is called traigunya-visaya vedah
- Matir na krsne svatah. Svatah means by his personal mental speculation. Just like many philosophers are thinking to reach the Absolute Truth beyond this limitation. That is called svatah, by personal speculation
- Maya means you are doing something only for nothing. That is called maya. Maya means nothing: which has no existence, phantasmagoria; which has no existence, but we accept something
- Mayavadi philosopher's policy or system is ascending policy. I want to understand the Absolute Truth by exercising my mental power - that is called ascending process or inductive process. But our process is deductive process
- Meditation is very profusely used in your country especially. But what is the meditation? When you fix up your mind to find out God, Krsna, within your heart, that is called meditation, not thinking some foolish objective is meditation
- Molasses fermented with sulphuric acid and then distilled. That is called spirit, or liquor. So thing is, nothing is bad, but because if a thing creates bad effects, then it is bad
- Mukti does not mean that after mukti one is finished, one becomes nirakara or another two hand grow. Not like that. It is a change of consciousness. That is called mukti. Real mukti means change of consciousness
- Mukti means no more material body. That is called mukti. We are now conditioned by this material body. In the material world, we are changing one body after another, but there is no mukti. There is no liberation
- Mukti means when one gives up his engagement, activities, hitva anyatha rupam, identifying himself with something material, and he is engaged in his own original, constitutional position, and that is called mukti
- Mukti means when we give up our false engagements and we are engaged properly in our original constitutional position. That is called mukti
- Mukti means when we give up the service in designation and we are situated in our original constitutional position. That is called mukti, liberation, or salvation, whatever you like

- Naisthika-brahmacari. But if he's unable, then he's allowed to marry. That is called grhastha life, householder life. Because between twenty-five years to fifty years, this is the youthful time, so his lusty desires are very strong
- Naturally nobody forgets his father and mother. But if, somehow or other, he forgets, that is a special circumstances and that is called maya, illusion

- Nitya-siddha means they never fall a victim of maya. Even though they are within this material world, they are never victimized. That is called nitya-siddha. And one who is victimized, he is called nitya-baddha
- Nityananda Prabhu wanted to show an example that "I shall deliver these two brothers. Never mind they are so fallen." That is called krpa-siddha. So we should always remember there are three categories: nitya-siddha, sadhana-siddha and krpa-siddha
- Nityo sasvato yam na jayate na mriyate va kadacit. The soul is eternal. Soul is eternal and soul does not take birth. The body, we get a new body, that is called birth. And when this body is annihilated, that is called death
- Niyamagrahah means niyama, scheduled rules and regulation, not to accept. Niyama agraha or niyama agraha. Agraha means unnecessarily agraha, but without any result. That is called niyamagrahah
- No desire does not mean no desire for serving Krsna. That is real desire. Other desires are artificial. That is material. But the desire to . . . that is called Krsna consciousness. When all our desires are for serving Krsna
- Nobody is going to work without any remuneration. Everyone is working for getting some profit. That is called karma. But that ordinary karma and karma-yoga is different. You can engage yourself in ordinary work, but, at the same time, become a yogi
- Not by birth one becomes engineer or medical man or this or . . . no. Everything by culture, by education. Similarly, the Vedic culture means everyone is given the chance to become first-class brahmin. That is called brahminical culture
- Not for a second we can make our mind vacant. That is not possible. So this vacancy, this mind's business - thinking, feeling and willing - when all of them are engaged in the Supreme Personality of Godhead, that is called perfect yoga system
- Not that he had, Lord Siva had no sexual potency, but he was dhira. That is the example. Just like Krsna danced with so many girls, but there was no sex appetite. That is called dhira

- One birth is by your father and mother, and the other birth is by the spiritual master and Vedic knowledge. That is called second birth. At that time the candidate is given a chance to study and understand what is Veda
- One group is called aroha-pantha, or research, inductive process, and another method is called deductive process, or avaroha-pantha. The knowledge coming from the supreme source, that is called avaroha-pantha
- One has to rise above the three material modes and become situated in the transcendental position. That is called Krsna consciousness. BG 1972 purports
- One has to take his birth, rebirth, by culture, by education, by knowledge. That is called cultural birth

- Paramahamsa means without any... What is that dirty thing? The dirty thing is to have any slight desire for enjoying this material body. That is called dirty thing
- Passion is power, creative power, or working for sense gratification. That is called passion
- People do not understand. Everyone thinks that he will not die. He'll not die. That is called maya. He's seeing that everyone is dying; still, he's thinking that "I shall not die" or - I shall live for millions of years. There is no question of death
- People should come forward to cooperate with this movement. That is called tyagena. Charity should be given, money should be given
- People should try to attain that perfect transcendental position so that he is fully satisfied, no more want. So that is called bhakti-yoga, and we are teaching and propagating this bhakti-yoga
- Person is Krsna. From the person the effulgence, the illumination, is coming. That is called brahmajyoti. And in that brahmajyoti everything is resting

- Pravrtti-marga means if you want to enjoy the senses whimsically, as much as you like, that is called pravrtti-marga. And the other marga, way is the crossing, the nivrtti-marga: no more sense gratification. That is called nivrtti-marga
- Pravrtti-marga means increasing the propensity of sense enjoyment. That is called pravrtti-marga. And there is another way, nivrtti-marga: decreasing the propensity for sense gratification
- Prescribed duties according to qualification, position, occupation, that is called karma. And just opposite, it is called vikarma
- Preya means immediately very palatable. That is called preya. And sreya means ultimately good. Suppose if you take some palatable foodstuff, it may be very palatable to you . . . there are many example. Just like smoking
- Purana means supplementary. Ordinary person, they cannot understand the Vedic language. Therefore from historical references these Vedic principles are taught. That is called Purana

- Raghunatha dasa Gosvami, he was fasting, but he was not weak. That fasting. And he who will fast artificially and become weak, "I cannot work," that is not required. That is called markata-vairagya
- Real activity means to elevate yourself. That is called karma
- Real business of human life, to understand oneself, that is called self-realization, brahma-bhuta (SB 4.30.20), and find out the remedy and act accordingly. That is the mission of human life. Not like to dance like cats and dogs
- Real conception of life is aham brahmasmi: "I am the spirit soul, part and parcel of Krsna." That is called self-realization
- Real dharma is bhagavata-dharma. Therefore Krsna says, sarva-dharman parityajya mam ekam saranam vraja (BG 18.66). This is dharma. That is called bhagavata-dharma, intimate relationship with the Lord
- Real mukti is described in the Bhagavata. Mukti means muktir hitvanyatha rupam. Muktir hitvanyatha rupam sva-rupena vyavasthitih (SB 2.10.6). When one is cured of his madness and he is situated in healthy state, that is called mukti
- Real position is we living entities, are eternal servant of God. As soon as we forget this formula, we are in the material existence. And as soon as we revive this original consciousness, that is called spiritual platform. Therefore we are propagating KC
- Relative means you cannot understand anything without the other. That is called relative. Suppose if I say "good man," I cannot understand a good man without having another man, bad man. This is called relative truth
- Religion means the original characteristic. That is called religion. So original characteristic means that cannot be changed. That quality, that characteristic is always with us
- Religion means when one is trained how to surrender unto the Supreme Personality of Godhead. That is called religion
- Religion of human being is one. That is called sanatana. A living entity is described as sanatana. Mamaivamso jiva-bhuto jiva-loke sanatanah
- Religious scripture means they are meant for training you to that conception of life that you are pure soul. Nothing more. They restrict your bodily activities under certain conditions. Under certain conditions. That is called morality
- Rolls Royce car is different from you, and Chevrolet car is also different from you. You can take advantage of them. Don't identify. They are identifying with the matter. That is the defect. That is called maya

- Sama, equilibrium of mind, is achieved by one who has concluded that the Supreme Personality of Godhead is the original source of everything. And when one can control his senses, that is called dama
- Samadhi means to be absorbed in some particular type of thought. That is called samadhi. So if you are fully Krsna conscious, that is samadhi. Twenty-four hours samadhi. Not that a periodical samadhi
- Samah means equilibrium of the mind. One should be trained up in such a way that he is not disturbed in his mind in any circumstance. That is called samah. And damah, damah means controlling the senses
- Sambandha, what is our connection with God. That is called sambandha. And then abhidheya. According to that relationship we have to act. That is called abhidheya. And why do we act. Because we have got the goal of life, to achieve the goal of life
- Sanatana term is very important. The living entity is sanatana, God is sanatana, the spiritual world is sanatana, & the process by which your lost relationship with God established and you go back to home, back to Godhead, that is called sanatana-dharma
- Sanatana-dharma means that the living entity is eternal, he must seek out his eternal service. That is called sanatana-dharma
- Sankaracarya gives further, more, that brahma-nirvana that, "You become desireless of this material world, but you enter, merge into Brahman." That is called brahma-nirvana
- Sankirtana means when we combine together, many persons, and chant and dance That is called sankirtana-yajna
- Sannyasi, brahmacari collects little, little, little from everywhere; that is called madhukari, exactly following the footsteps of madhukara, bumblebees
- Sarvatmana, this word is very important. The Krsna also asks when He said that, "Giving up all other kinds of engagement of religious process, simply surrender unto Me." That is called sarvatmana
- Sastra is like that: bhuta, bhavisya, vartaman. Bhuta means "past," and bhavisya means "future," and vartaman means "present." Sastra will give you direction about past, present and future. That is sastra. That is called scripture
- Satya-yuga means when cent percent people are pure. That is called Satya-yuga. And Treta-yuga means 75% are pure, 25% impure. And Dvapara-yuga means 50%, 50% pure and 50%... And Kali-yuga means 75% impure and 25% may be pure
- Siddhi means to understand the spiritual identification and work for it. That is called siddhi. So the attempt for such thing is called mukti: to get rid of the material entanglement. So bhukti-mukti-siddhi. There are three stages
- Simply by hearing from the teacher, they'll remember. That is called tradition by hearing. Therefore education means sruti. Srutibhir pratipannam. Anything, if you want to prove, then you have to give evidence from the sruti
- Simply for supplying milk the cow is accepted as one of the seven mothers. That is called Indian cultural mission. We should learn to look upon every living being as our own brother and treat him in that love
- Simply searching after, searching after happiness, our time comes: "Finished. Your business is finished. Now get out." That is called death
- Simply to have brahma-jnana is not sufficient. When you act like Brahman, that is called Vaisnava. That is Vaisnava. That is Krsna consciousness
- Simply to know there is God, this is theoretical knowledge. But when actually you become connected with God, you practice godly activities, that is called vijnanam
- Sisya means one who accepts the authority of the spiritual master. He voluntarily accepts the rulings or the punishment of the spiritual master. That is called sisya
- Smrti means the Vedic conclusion written by somebody else. That is called smrti. He is also authorized
- So before my body was created, the world was there, and when my body will be finished, the world will remain there. Then how can I claim that this world belongs to me? This is called illusion. This is called ignorance, mudha
- So Caitanya Mahaprabhu recommends that... Caitanya Maha... This is the shastric, Vedic culture, that we have to purify ourselves from the bodily designation. That is called ceto-darpana-marjanam
- So dharmah svanusthitah pumsam. In the human society, there is always some kinds of religious institution. That is called dharma, faith
- So long there is deliberation of sinful and pious activities, that is called karma. Karma has got two results, either suffering or enjoying. Of course, in this material world there is no enjoyment. But with the hope of enjoyment, we agree to suffer
- So long we'll think of, that is called subtle sex, thinking. They read the sex literature. That is subtle sex
- So long you manufacture ideas, you may be pacified for some time, but it will not exist. Therefore you have to stop this manufacturing process, that "I shall be happy in this way." No. That is called free of anxieties
- So the idea that we don't want this material opulence, that is called vairagya. And why you want Krsna? Because Krsna is your eternal master, eternal father. That is called jnana
- So the intelligent persons, they should understand that how to stop this unlimited plan-making business. Still there is no solution. That is called athato brahma jijnasa. That is life
- So there is a kind of trouble or misery inflicted by other living entities. That is called adhibhautika. Three kinds of miseries. Miseries offered by other living entities
- So this is the position. So because they cannot remain in that impersonal feature they come down again to these material varieties of life. That is called envious
- So unless the human society is divided into these eight scientific divisions and everyone acts according to his position, there cannot be any peace in the world. That is called varnasrama
- So we should understand that we have got a separate business, real business. That is called self-realization, that "I am not this body." This is self-realization. That is being instructed by Krsna in the beginning, that "You are not this body"
- Some way or other, unknowing or knowingly, if you render some service, that is called ajnata-sukrti
- Somebody may question that "If he (Brahma) is original creature, then how he got this knowledge of creating?" So that is explained: tene brahma hrda. Hrda: "from the heart God instructed." God is situated in everyone's heart. That is called Paramatma
- Somebody will take the money and spoil it. Better, if you spend it for Krsna, at least your service will be recognized. Krsna will see that this man is spending his hard-earned money for Me. That is called ajnata-sukrti
- Somehow or other, we are thinking separate from God. But actually that is not the fact. We are interlinked always with God, with Krsna. But some way or other, there is some difficulty. That is called maya
- Sometimes a diksa-guru is not present always. Therefore one can take learning, instruction, from an advanced devotee. That is called the siksa-guru
- Sometimes mother thinks: "The child will be grown up. He will be big man. He will earn money, and I shall get it." There is still some feelings of exchange. But while loving Krsna, there is no such feeling of exchange. That is called unalloyed love
- Sometimes they (yogis) go early in the morning to Jagannatha Puri, to Ramesvaram, to Haridwar, and take their bathing in different Ganges water and others. That is called laghima-siddhi. He became very light
- Sometimes we enjoy subtle pleasure, thinking of sex life. That is called nari-sangame. Nari means woman, and sanga means union. So those who are practiced, so when there is actually no union, they think of union
- Sreya means ultimate good. If you act in such a way that ultimately you actually become happy, that is called sreya. And if you want immediately some happiness - never mind what it will be in future - that is called preya
- Srimad-Bhagavatam is the book of knowledge which is dealing with the Supreme Personality of Godhead with His different devotees. That is called Bhagavata
- Stability of mind can be achieved by one who has concluded that the Supreme Personality of Godhead is the original source of everything. And when one can control his senses, that is called sama
- Sudra means one who has no education, no culture. That is called Sudra. So that is the remnants. First of all, Brahmin, Ksatriya, Vaisyas; and others, those who have no sufficient brain, they are counted as Sudra
- Sunya means zero. That is called nirvana. Buddha philosophy advocates nirvana: no more desire. That is their philosophy: By desire you are becoming implicated, so make all your desires extinct. Then there will be no more feelings of pains and pleasure
- Suppose everyone has got some charitable disposition of mind. In that disposition of mind, if by chance he gives to some Vaisnava some money, that becomes a credit. That is called ajnata-sukrti
- Suppose I am accustomed to smoke. If I give it up, there will be certainly inconvenience. But for the better cause, I have to suffer voluntarily. That is called tapasya. Nobody will die if he does not get facility for illicit sex or enjoying intoxicants
- Suppose I am sitting here for hearing, but my mind has gone to the store. So we have to bring back the mind from the store again to this apartment. This has to be practiced. The mind will create disturbance like that. That is called meditation
- Surrendering unto him means surrendering unto God because he is God's representative. But you are allowed to make questions, not to waste time, but for understanding. That is called pariprasna. These are the process. So everything is there
- Svarupa means original constitutional position. That is called svarupa. And mukti means to be situated in that original condition. That is the statement in the Srimad-Bhagavatam

- Tapa means by austerity getting power. Whatever they say that will happen, that is called tapasya
- That is called Indian cultural mission. We should learn to look upon every living being as our own brother and treat him in that love
- That is called krta-yuga, age of krta, very pious age. So in those ages people used to live one hundred thousands of years, and they were very pure, there was no sinful activity
- That is called maya. That is the last snare of maya. Maya dictates that, "Now we have failed to become minister, to (become) president, and so many other big, big posts. Now you become Brahman." You are already Brahman. Simply you have to realize
- That is called sva-dharma
- That is called svarupa-siddhi. Jivera svarupa haya nitya-krsna-dasa (CC Madhya 20.108). This realization, that "I am eternal servant of Krsna," this stage
- That is called tatastha. The water is one side, land is one side, and in the beach, between the water and the land, there is a marginal potency, or marginal place
- That is called vasudeva stage, and in the vasudeva stage, Vasudeva, Krsna, appears. You can see Krsna
- That is called yoga, to control the mind from all other subject matters and concentrate it on the Supreme Personality of Godhead. That is called yoga. Yoga means linking
- That is pure life, when we think like that, that "We are no more servant." Nayam kinkaram, that is, what is called, indemnifying this contaminated existence of material life
- That supreme authority is God, and whatever He gives, the rules and regulation, that is called religion. You cannot change it
- That which is favorable for prosecuting Krsna consciousness should be accepted; that which is unfavorable should be rejected. That is called samata, equanimity. BG 1972 purports
- The aim is how to improve spiritual life. That is grhastha-asrama. And one who has no such aim, he simply wants to enjoy the senses, and for that purpose he's decorating the house, decorating the wife, children - that is called grhamedhi
- The animals, they have no regulative principles, but human society must follow regulative principles. That is called varnasrama-dharma
- The brahmastra is something like atomic weapon, nuclear weapon. It can go to the enemy wherever the enemy is. It doesn't matter. It will go and kill. That is called brahmastra
- The characteristic is that I am eternally servant of God. So instead of serving God, if I serve the dog, that is called cheating religion
- The civilization. Everything is all false, cheating. Everything, everything is cheating. Without this Krsna consciousness, all other consciousness, they're simply cheating. That is called maya, illusion
- The devotees attain the Supreme Lord only by devotional service. Having such knowledge, one engages in his occupational duty, and that is called bhakti-yoga. By performing bhakti-yoga, one can rise to the platform of pure devotional service
- The duty must be done. Even it is little suffering. That is called tapasya. Tapasya means we must proceed with our Krsna consciousness business in spite of all dangerous and calamitous condition of this world. This is called tapasya
- The exact version in the Vedas is krte. Krte means in the golden age, when everyone is pious. That is called krta-yuga, age of krta, very pious age
- The eyes are dictating some way, the tongue is dictating some way, the ear is dictating some way. Therefore, one should be trained up not to be dictated by the senses, but he must be master of the senses. That is called samah
- The eyes are engaged in seeing worldly beauty, so one has to withdraw them from enjoying that beauty and concentrate on seeing beauty inside. That is called pratyahara
- The eyes cannot work, therefore it is blind, similarly, the hand cannot work, the leg cannot work, the tongue cannot work, because at the last stage when this mechanical arrangement of this body will stop to function, that is called death
- The false consciousness is exhibited under the impression that, "I am one of the product of this material nature." That is called false ego
- The father's, mother's duty is the same, apavarga-vartmani. Apavarga-vartmani: to give education in such a way that no more pavarga. No more parisrama, no more phena, no more bhaya, no more vyarthata, no more marana. That is called apavarga-vardhanam
- The first is that you have kindly come here; you are trying to hear. This is very good. This is the beginning of process. Then kirtanam, sravanam kirtanam. Whatever you hear, you discuss amongst yourselves. That is called kirtana
- The first lesson we receive from BG (2.13) informs us that the body and the owner of the body are different. When we can understand that we are not the body, that is the beginning of self-realization, and that is called the brahma-bhuta (SB 4.30.20) stage
- The first-class prisoners, they are given some facilities. Just like political prisoners, they are given separate bungalow and servants, newspaper, book. But they cannot go out of the prison. That is called first class
- The foolish leaders, they are keeping us in darkness. Therefore Krsna personally comes. Whenever people are kept in darkness, that is called dharmasya glanih - BG 4.7
- The Gopis were ordinary village girls. They were not educated. They were not Vedantists, philosophers. But they had the unlimited ecstasy and love for Krsna. That is required. That is called sannyasa
- The human life is meant for sattva. Sattva means existence. We are existing. I am existing; you are existing. But we are sometimes appear to be not existing. That is called death
- The human life's business is to accept tapasya, voluntarily accepting some inconvenience of life. That is called tapasya
- The impersonal Brahman effulgence is beyond this material world, and this is called param padam. Aruhya krcchrena param padam. Merging into the impersonal effulgence of the Lord is called param padam
- The knowledge coming from the supreme source, that is called avaroha-pantha, and the knowledge which is being sought after by using our imperfect senses, that is called aroha-pantha
- The Krsna consciousness movement is giving all facilities so that people may come here, chant, dance, live very peacefully, take krsna-prasada, and be happy, but people will not accept it. That is called misfortune
- The liberation from material bondage is called nirguna. Nirguna means the three qualities, three modes of material nature, is nullified. As soon as we are transcendental to the three modes of material nature, that is called liberation
- The living beings who have come to the material world against the will of the Supreme Being are under the control of a supreme power called maya-sakti, the deputed agent of the Lord, who is meant to pinch the conditioned souls by threefold miseries
- The living entity is an eternal servitor of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. When one is convinced about this relationship, which is called sambandha, he then acts accordingly. That is called abhidheya
- The living entity's enjoying the fruit of the tree, and the other living entity, Supreme, Paramatma, He's simply witnessing. Witnessing, and giving you the result of your fruitive activities. That is called karma
- The lusty desires will never be satisfied. You'll want more, more, more. That is called greedy, lobha, lusty desires and greediness. You'll never be free if you remain in the kama, in the rajas-tamas
- The man who is attacked, he forgets himself, and he speaks and walks according to the dictation of the ghost. That is called ghostly-haunted man
- The material disease is that everyone is making plan, "How others will serve me." This is called maya. This is called maya. Maya means that artificially we want to be served
- The material world is conducted by three gunas, means the quality of goodness, the quality of passion, the quality of ignorance, and mixed. So first, second, third, and the mixed is called fourth. That is called varnasrama
- The mind wants, "Now let me go to the restaurant." "No, sir." Beat him with shoes. Instead of going to the restaurant, he beats the mind with shoes. Then mind will not again say: "Go to the restaurant." That is called svami, gosvami
- The mother material nature, or Durga-devi. Durga means the superintendent of this prison house, material, Durga. Dur-ga: "You cannot go out." That is called durga. Durga means fort also. Very difficult, dur-ga, to go out
- The Nectar of Instruction. We should follow, strictly follow. Then prthivim sa sisyat. Then you'll be able to preach and make disciples all over the world. This is the injunction. That is called gosvami. Don't be cheap preacher, cheap guru
- The platform where we are concerned with the senses, that is called karma
- The process which teaches us to go back to sanatana land, sanatana existence, that is called sanatana-dharma. Try to understand
- The religious principles which promote a follower to the highest platform of serving the eternal, supreme God, that is called sanatana-dharma
- The root meaning of avatara is "which comes from the transcendental sky, the spiritual sky, to the material sky." That is called avatara
- The rotating, wandering within this material world from one body to another or from one planet to another, that is not advised. That is called samsara
- The service mood is going on everywhere. But the highest perfection of service is when we learn to serve the Supreme Absolute Lord. That is called bhakti
- The so-called religious system which is full of matsarata, jealousy, that is called kaitava-dharma, cheating in the name of religion. So this God consciousness is not a cheating religion. It is very broad-minded
- The solution of your problems is to get out of the conditioned state of life. That is called yoga - to link yourself to the Supreme
- The soul is within the body, the body is changing. And as soon as this body... Just like you are old man, I am old man, the body is no more possible to be changed; somehow or other then I'll have to accept another body. That is called transmigration
- The stomach will digest it (rasagullas), and the energy will be distributed - not only to this finger, but other fingers, other parts of parts of the body. This has to be learned. That is called yato bhaktir adhoksaje. We are discussing that point
- The system which teaches this eternal system of reciprocation - that is called sanatana-dharma, the eternal religion. It is meant for everyone
- The Vedic information is, "Do not remain in the darkness. Come to the light." But that education is wanting. That is called mukti, to get out of the darkness of ignorance and darkness of this material world
- The Vedic knowledge is considered mother, and the spiritual master is considered the father. And by the help of the spiritual master, when one gets into transcendental knowledge, that is called second birth
- The Vedic knowledge is given in codes. That is called Brahma-sutra. Sutra means code, and Brahman means the Supreme Absolute Truth. Understanding of the Absolute Truth in code words, and the explanation
- The whole Vedic language, Vedic education, means to take care of the soul. The soul is entangled, embodied, engaged in this material affair, and he is suffering, and to rescue him, to get him out of this material clutches, that is called education
- The whole world is working so hard not for others' benefit but his personal benefit. That is called karma
- Theism means to have faith, full faith in the Vedic knowledge. That is called theism. That I have given you several times the example: Just like the cow dung is the stool of an animal, but the Vedic literature confirms that cow dung is pure
- There are 108 Upanisads. Then the whole conclusion was made shortened, cream. That is called Vedanta-sutra. And again, this Vedic knowledge was compiled in simple way for understanding of less intelligent class of men
- There are different modes of enjoyment according to the body. People are searching after sense enjoyment on this planet, on other planets, here, there and everywhere. Their main object is to gratify the senses. That is called bhukti
- There are different stages. And when one comes to the ultimate stage, nihsreyasaya, that is called Krsna consciousness, or God consciousness. And how that consciousness acts? That - I am a servant of God. I am servant of Krsna
- There are eleven senses: five senses gathering knowledge and five senses working, and mind is the center. So mind is also accepted as sense. When your purified senses are applied in the service of the master of the senses, Hrsikesa, that is called bhakti
- There are five kinds of relationship. Just like "God is great." That is simply feeling the greatness of God. Then, when he feels exactly how God is great, then naturally there will be an inclination to serve God. That is called servitude
- There are many religious sects or faiths all over the world. But our this Krsna consciousness movement, which is called bhagavata-dharma . . . means relationship with God and execution of our duties in that relationship. That is called bhagavata-dharma
- There are so many rules and regulation which is essential. It must be done. That is called tapasya. Without consideration whether it is convenient or inconvenient for you, which is, must be done, that is called tapasya
- There are so many varieties of living entities. Gradually, by evolution, we come to the human form of life, when our consciousness is developed. We can understand higher knowledge. And that is called Veda
- There are ten kinds of reformatory method, and one of them is initiation from the spiritual master. That is called dvija. Samskarad bhaved dvijah
- There are ten, one million types of birds. Similarly, three million types of animals, and four hundred thousand different types of humankind. Everything is exactly calculated. That is called Vedic knowledge
- There are three classes of men. One class of men, karmis, they are trying to enjoy the material resources. Another class, they are rather frustrated. That is called nirvidya. And another class is akuto-bhayam, means one who does not fear
- There are three kinds of women: kamini, svairini, and pumscali. Pumscali. Svairini means free, freedom. Nobody is controller. That is called svairini. And kamini means to attract, very much attract
- There are three tapas, three kinds of miserable condition, this material world. That also can be taken tapa. Tapa means suffering. Excessive heat and cold, that is called tapa. So hrt-tapopasamani ca
- There are three things, jneyam, jnata, and jnana. The object of knowledge, the knower is called jnata, and the object of knowledge is called jneyam. And the process by which one can understand, that is called jnana, knowledge
- There are two kinds of duties in our life. One duty is to serve the illusion, and the other, another duty is to serve the reality. When you serve the reality, that is called real sannyasa
- There are two kinds of prakrtis, we have studied in Bhagavad-gita: apara-prakrti, para-prakrti. So para-prakrti, or nature, transcendental nature, that is called daivi-prakrti
- There are two words: grhamedhi and grhastha. Grhastha means . . . that is called asrama, grhastha-asrama, to live with wife and children, but the business is how to develop Krsna consciousness. That is grhastha-asrama, as we recommend
- There is another position which is beyond this sinful activity and pious activity. That is called akarma, akarma. Akarma means there is no result, either sinful or pious
- There is no difference between the internal and external instructor. We should take advantage of this instruction. That is called vyavasayatmika buddhih, fixed-up resolution. Fixed-up resolution
- There is no independence, either materially or spiritually. But we're falsely thinking to become independent. That is called illusion, maya
- There must be division according to catur-varnyam maya srstam guna-karma. . . (BG 4.13). Not by birth, but by quality. So anyone can be trained up first class, second class, as he likes. That is called civilization
- These are the duties of the brahmana. To give proper education, he himself should be properly educated. That is called brahminical culture. And we offer our respect to Krsna because He gives the brahminical culture. Namo brahmanya-devaya
- These discussions (between Sanatana Gosvami and Lord Caitanya) which are going on, that is only for how to get liberation from the four principles of material condition, janma-mrtyu-jara-vyadhi. That is called moksa, moksa, or liberation
- These gopis, they were not supposed to be educated. Village girls - who is giving them education? They are not Ph.D.'s. But still, strong desire for Krsna. And that is called yesam nirbandhini matih
- These people in New York City, they are working day and night. And karma means work and get some profit. That is called karma
- They (Krsna's 160,000 children) had ten children again. This is Yadu family. This is Krsna's family. So many, one person. And that is called Bhagavan
- They (people) think, "By increasing motorcars, we shall be happy." This is called maya. That will not help. This motorcar civilization will be finished within another hundred years
- They (statements of SB) are correct to the point, without any mistake, without any illusion. That is called sastra. There cannot be any mistake. Just like in the SB you'll find that in the beginning of this age Lord Buddha will appear
- They are accustomed to get up, two o'clock. Because they think "The more we sleep, we enjoy life." Therefore, they are sunyavadi. They want to become zero, sleeping always. Sunyavadi. "Make everything zero." That is called sunyavadi. No, that is not life
- They are doing also the same thing, whole day and night, working hard simply for sense gratification. So therefore in the human society there must be a system of division. That is called varnasrama-dharma. That is Vedic civilization
- They are thinking they are free: they can do whatever they like. That is called ignorance, mudha, rascal. They are living under condition, but they are falsely thinking that "We are free." Is it not
- They bow down like stick. This is called dandavat. Danda means "stick"; vat means "like." When you fall down, just like a stick falls, before superior, that is called dandavat. Not by simply saying dandavat... Eh, one must fall down
- They have different types of dharmas, but real dharma is bhagavata-dharma, what we learn from Srimad-Bhagavatam, to deal with the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Bhagavan. That is called bhagavatan
- This (character of sudra, brahmacari, grhastha, vanaprastha, sannyasa) must be systematically organized. That is called dharma. Because the real purpose is, dharmasya hy apavargyasya: just to nullify this miserable condition of material life
- This is a Bengali poetry. It says, - As soon as we forget the real enjoyer and we want to enjoy, immediately that is called maya
- This is called illusion. The same example, just a man in dreaming, crying, "There is tiger, there is tiger. It is eating me," and the man who is awakened, he is smiling - Where is the tiger
- This is intelligence, how we have to work, but without reaping any good or bad result. That means working for Krsna. That is called akarma
- This is religion. This is called bhagavata-dharma, to understand this philosophy, that God is the supreme master and I am His eternal servant. My duty is to serve God. That's all
- This is required, that everything engaged in Krsna's service. That is called yukta-vairagya. Not phalgu-vairagya. Rupa Gosvami says, "Motor car is material; therefore we should not touch it" - this is phalgu-vairagya
- This is the nature of Krsna. One can take everything, and yet the same will remain. In the material world, one minus one equals zero, but in the spiritual world, one minus one equals one. That is called advaya jnana
- This is the process of bhakti-yoga. "One should render transcendental loving service to the Supreme Lord Krsna favorably and without desire for material profit or gain through fruitive activities or philosophical speculation. That is called pure DS"
- This is to be practiced, that we should not be disturbed by the ethereal transformation in touch with the skin and be disturbed in our regular activities in devotional service. That is called sthita-prajna
- This is very important verse in Bhagavad-gita. It is a turning point of life. Karpanya-dosa. Miserly. Dosa means fault When one does not act according to his position, that is fault, and that is called miserly
- This Krsna consciousness movement is for nistara. Nistara means to be liberated from the capture of maya. That is called nistara, release, release from the capture of maya
- This meditation process was possible to be executed in the age when people were very pious and very honest and the duration of life was very long. That is called Golden Age, or Satya-yuga
- This mentality, that "I shall enjoy," that is false, I mean to say, propensity of the living entity. That is called maya
- This person who is born in the sva-paca family, candala family, he is called papa-yoni. Yoni means mother, and bija means father. Bija may be nice, but if the yoni is not nice, that is called varna-sankara
- This vacancy, this mind's business - thinking, feeling and willing - when all of them are engaged in the Supreme Personality of Godhead, that is called perfect yoga system, or the topmost yoga system
- Those who are conversant with Vedic language, they know: asrama means something in connection with God. That is called asrama. So grhastha-asrama means one may live with family, children, wife, children, friends - that's all right
- Those who are patients, who are diseased, they go to the hospital. There is also seva. The nurse is serving. The doctor is serving. But that is not seva. That is called daya
- Those who are too much addicted to this karma, activities, when those activities are done with yoga - yoga means linking with the Supreme - that is called karma-yoga
- To achieve that success (associating with God in any one of the five transcendental rasas), he (a mahatma) engages all activities-mental, bodily and vocal, everything-in the service of the Supreme Lord, Sri Krsna. That is called full KC. BG 1972 purports
- To be agitated in the mind, that is not unnatural, but if you practice, then you'll not be agitated anymore. If you practice by your knowledge, then you'll not be agitated. That is called dhira. Dhiras tatra na muhyati (BG 2.13). You have to become dhira
- To be immuned to the infection of the gunas, we have to engage in bhakti-yoga. Once we attain the perfectional stage, we attain ecstatic love of Godhead. In that state we cannot remain without Krsna for a moment. That is called bhava
- To become free from maya is very easy provided one understands Krsna. And as soon as he understands Krsna, he understands his duty, that "My duty is to serve Krsna." That is called bhakti
- To get up at four in the morning is definite, there is no compromise on that. Someone gets up and someone doesn’t, No! You have to get up at four in the morning every day that is called dhrta-vrata and dhirah-vrata
- To go to our original position, that is called tapasya. Tapasya means to revive our original normal life of Krsna consciousness. That is called tapasya
- To have faith, this is called surrender. Not that, "Oh, Krsna says, but may not be able to protect me." No. Krsna is able. He is all-powerful, omnipotent. He can give you protection
- To satisfy the senses of Krsna, not to satisfy my senses. That is bhakti. That is called prema, love for Krsna. - Ah, Krsna likes this. I must give Him this
- To work hard like an ass for sense gratification, that is not siddhi. Siddhi is different thing. Siddhi means to understand the spiritual identification and work for it. That is called siddhi
- Try to control. Become first-class controller, dhirah. That is called dhirah: not disturbed by any urges
- Try to understand what is karma. Karma means anyone who is working very hard day and night for his own benefit. That is called karma
- Two business: socana and akanksa. Everyone is trying to be very big man. That is called akanksa. And if he is lost of his possession, then he cries. So these two things will be finished if you become spiritually situated
U
- Unless one is enlightened by the spiritual knowledge, he remains only just like cats and dogs. And to understand spiritual identification, that is called dharma
- Unless there is ukta, said by authorities, previous authorities, acaryas, you cannot say anything. This is called parampara. You try to understand with your intelligence, but you cannot make any addition or alteration. That is not possible
- Utsaha, endeavor. "In this life I must fulfill my mission of Krsna consciousness." That is called utsaha. Dhairya. Don't be agitated because it is not giving result immediately. Just patiently go on working
- Uttama means "the knowledge which is beyond this material darkness." This material world is called darkness, and when the knowledge surpasses this material world, material knowledge, that is really called uttama

- Vairagya means no more working for sense gratification, that is vairagya. That is renouncement. Only for working Krsna, for the satisfaction of Krsna, that is called vairagya. And to attain this vairagya, renouncement, one requires sufficient knowledge
- Vairagyam means knowledge by which one becomes detached from this material allurement. That is called vairagya
- Varna-sankara, the practical example of varna-sankara is the hippie in your country: no caste, no creed, neither useful for the material world, neither useful for the spiritual. That is called varna-sankara
- Vatsa-padam means the impression by the hoof of a calf and the water contained in it. The whole ocean becomes like a spot, a small spot, created by the impression of the hoof. That is called vatsa-padam
- Veda means knowledge, and anta means last stage, or end. Everything has got some end. So you are being educated. You are taking education. Where it shall end? That is called Vedanta. Where the ultimate point

- War, if it is fought on principle, on religious principle, that is called dharma-yuddhi. That is not prohibited. But this killing process, unnecessarily, innocent men, that is not dharma-yuddhi. That is irregular fighting
- We are also expansion of God, vibhinnamsa. There are two kinds of expansions: svamsa, vibhinnamsa. When Krsna expands in fullness, that is called svamsa, visnu-tattva
- We are now dogs of material nature, para-tantrya. We cannot go beyond the rules and regulation, condition, of material nature. That is called para-tantrya, not svatantrya
- We are now encumbered with this material body, and as soon as we become free from this material conception of life, that is called mukti. That is called brahma-bhuta
- We are publishing eighty books like this, simply to hear about God. Then when you hear perfectly then you can describe to others. That is called kirtanam. Sravanam, kirtanam
- We can understand higher knowledge. And that is called Veda. So Veda does not mean it is meant for the cats and dogs. Vedas means knowledge, this knowledge, is meant for the human beings
- We cannot have perfect knowledge by speculating our experience. It is not possible. We must go to a person whose experience is beyond our experience. That is called guru
- We cannot remain without speaking or hearing. That is a practical fact. But when that speaking and hearing is engaged in the matter of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, that is called devotional service
- We do not accept this Sankara's philosophy, that the world is mithya. No. It is fact. It is fact. Because unless it . . . but the vision is different. Vision is different. That is called maya. What is the fact? The fact: this world is created by Krsna
- We do not know what is the constitutional position of Krsna and what is my constitutional position. That is called sambandha-jna. My relationship with Krsna. Everyone of us has got a relationship
- We don't want monkey renouncement; we want real renouncement. We don't use anything for my personal comfort; everything for Krsna. That is called renouncement
- We have come here within this material world to enjoy material resources. That is called pravrtti. And when we come to the platform of understanding that "I am not this body; I am soul," then my occupational duty changes
- We have got a conception of Golden Age. So take it for granted that krte, krte means in the age when everyone was pure. Cent percent people were pure. That is called Krta-yuga
- We have got attachment for this material happiness - even it is duhkhalayam, it is very much painful, miserable - and we are making plans how to become happy here. This is called struggle for existence. It is going on perpetually
- We have got books also, philosophy also, plus the sankirtana, combined together. Sankirtana as well as books, that is called bhagavat-marga, and the Deity worship is called pancaratrika-vidhi. Both of them should go parallel
- We have got experience: one minus one equal to zero. But there, in the spiritual world . . . that is called Absolute. Millions times one minus, still, the original one is one. That is Krsna. Advaitam acyutam anadim ananta-rupam - Bs. 5.33
- We have got impure existence, this material body. When we get our spiritual body, that is called purified
- We have got minute quantity of Krsna's qualities because we are minute particles of Krsna, but that is now covered by maya. This maya means . . . when we forget our actual relationship with Krsna, that is called maya, false egotism
- We have no knowledge of Krsna, conditioned soul. Therefore for our understanding, He is so merciful, He descends as arca-murti. This Deity which we are worshiping, that is called arcavatara, incarnation of arca
- We have to accept sastra, how things are going on beyond our experience. Without that, we cannot have knowledge. That is called Vedic process. Sruti-jnanam. Sruti means hearing from authorities. That is real knowledge. Srotra-pantha
- We have to learn this art of elevation. Tapasya. That is called austerity, regulative principle; brahmacaryena, by celibacy, or by restricted sex life; samena, by controlling the mind; damena, by controlling the senses; tyagena, by giving charity
- We have to take shelter of the Vedic injunctions. That is called Vedic. Therefore our method, Vedic method, is as soon as we speak something, we immediately give evidence from the Vedas. Then it is perfect
- We have to voluntarily give up these habits (illicit sex life, intoxication, meat-eating and gambling). That is called austerity, penance
- We must be very enthusiastic, that "I must surrender to Krsna. Although my mind is going outside, but I must be determined that I must surrender." This is called utsaha, enthusiasm
- We must utilize our time, save our time, how to get out of these four . . . five principles of materialistic life. That is called dharma. And we should earn so much to keep the body and soul together. That's all
- We require this eating, sleeping, mating and defending. But if we try (to minimize or make it zero), if we practice, that is called austerity
- We see in your New York City. Everyone is busy with karma. Karma means you do something, there is some result and you enjoy or suffer. That is called karma
- We should be satisfied with those things which are meant for humanity. We should not simply... For the pleasure of the tongue we should not eat anything. That is called atyahara
- We should not allow our desires, demonic desires, to grow. That is called tapasya. Our desires we should sacrifice. That is called sacrifice. We should only accept Krsna's desire. That is the instruction of the Bhagavad-gita
- We spiritual sparks, when we simply congregate one place, that is called brahmajyoti. In that portion, because they have no information of the personality of Godhead, they are envious. They fall down
- What is my own constitutional position? I am eternal servant of God, Krsna. This is my position. So when we give up all these designation service and engage myself in the real service of the real master, that is called mukti, liberation
- What is the asuri-bhava, demonic tendency? The demonic tendency is that "I am God." That is called demonic, falsely thinking that - I am God
- What is the duty of human life? Tapo, tapasya. Tapasya, voluntarily accepting some inconvenience. That is called tapasya
- What is the nature of joyfulness? Na socati. Even in the great loss, there is no lamentation. And big profit, there is no jubilation, or there is no hankering. That is called brahma-bhutah stage. Equipoised
- What is your character? What is your actual value? That has to be judged. That is called bona fide teacher
- Whatever is changeable, that is not sanatana-dharma. Sanatana, try to understand sanatana. Sanatana means eternal, and the living entity, being eternal, he must have some eternal engagement. That is called sanatana-dharma
- Whatever Krsna says or He said 5,000 years ago, we are repeating the same thing. That is called parampara system. Not that "The world has changed. Scientific advancement is very great. Now we can interpret in this way and that way." This is all nonsense
- Whatever Krsna says, or He said five thousand years ago, we are repeating the same thing. That is called parampara system
- When a fellow man is suffering, another fellow man must feel for it. That is called daya
- When God-realization is there distinguished from material realization, this is called liberated stage of transcendental enlightenment
- When he realizes himself that, "I have nothing to gain and nothing to lose; I have nothing to do with this material world," that is called brahma-bhutah. That is Brahman realization
- When it begins, the dharma of the soul, that is called bhagavata-dharma, because when one is on the platform of understanding soul, that is called brahma-jnana, atma-jnana
- When it is karma-yoga, that means the activities which is your occupation, you can engage yourself in that activity, but don't engage the result for your sense gratification, but for satisfaction of Krsna. That is called karma-yoga
- When many persons assemble together and chant the glorification of the Lord, that is called sankirtana, and Caitanya Mahaprabhu says, param vijayate sri-krsna-sankirtanam
- When my cloth is too worn out or old, I cannot put it on; I have to take a new cloth. It is similar with the soul. When the body is too old or unworkable, I have to change to another body. This is called death
- When one appreciates the Supreme fully, he wishes to render some service, and that is called dasya. When one becomes more intimate, he becomes a friend of Krsna's, and that is called sakhya
- When one can control the urges of the tongue and genitals, that is called dhrtih. From dhrtih, one becomes dhira, pacified. A pacified person is never disturbed by the urges of the tongue and the genitals
- When one gives up voluntarily for higher status of life, that is called nivrtti-marga. Pravrtti-marga and nivrtti-marga. Pravrtti-marga means to fulfill these desires. But when one is trained up to give up these habits, that is called nirvrtti-marga
- When one is ready to tolerate all kinds of sufferings in order to control the senses and keep the mind steady, that is called titiksa, or tolerance
- When one is self-realized, aham brahmasmi... "I am not this body. I am not Christian, I am not Hindu, I am not black, I am not white, I am not fat, I am not thin. I am Brahman." Brahmasmi. That is called Brahman
- When one is situated in his original constitutional position, that is called mukti. Mukti does not mean that you get a big head or big hand. No. Mukti means knowledge
- When one is trained up to . . . how to surrender to Krsna, that is called devotional service
- When one realizes that "I have no connection with this body, this country, this wife, these children, these are all illusory," that is called liberation. That is called brahma-bhutah prasannatma
- When someone comes to the stage of being convinced like that our only business is to become Krsna conscious, that there is no other business, that is called svarupa-siddhi
- When that faith is very much concentrated, then one can understand Krsna. Visvasa sabde sudrdha-niscaya, krsne bhakti kaile sarva-karma krta haya (CC Madhya 22.62). This is called strong faith, or firm faith
- When the attraction for Krsna is based only on one particular humor, that is called kevala, or pure state
- When the living being thinks himself to be the enjoyer, that is called false ego
- When the living entity gives up this material body, the vital force still remains intact and is carried to another material body. That is called transmigration, or change of the body, and we have come to know this process as death
- When the living entity is in material consciousness, he has to take on various bodies in the material world. That is called karma, or varied creation by the force of material consciousness
- When the mind forcibly is engaged upon the form of the Lord, this is called nirbija-yoga, or lifeless yoga, for the yogi does not automatically engage in the personal service of the Lord
- When the power of vision is no longer working or the spectacle is broken, a person cannot see. Similarly, when the all the senses will be broken or cannot work, that is called death
- When the teeth are distinctly visible in a smile, that is called vihasita
- When there is a statement in the Vedic language that God has no form, it does not mean God has no form, but He has form which you cannot imagine. That is called formless
- When we are freed from these dirty things, then our original life becomes manifest. That is called mukti
- When we are not servant of the dictation of the senses, that is called mukti
- When we come to that position to understand our intimate relationship with God, or Krsna, that is called svarupa-siddhi
- When we come to that position to understand our intimate relationship with God, or Krsna, that is called svarupa-siddhi. Svarupa-siddhi. Svarupa-siddhi means realization of perfection
- When we compare the laborer class of men with intellect, intellectual class of men, there is difference. But both of them are important factors to maintain this body. That is called varnasrama-dharma
- When we defy the laws of God, we are put into threefold miseries of life. That is called material existence. And when we abide by the laws of God, then we are happy. We should know this fact
- When we forget our duty, that is called dharmasya glanih. Glanih means deterioration of our real occupational duty
- When we take up the activity as desired by the Supreme Lord, that is called our pure life
- When you are liberated, you will understand in which way you are related with Krsna. That is called svarupa-siddhi. But that is attained when you are actually perfect in devotional service
- When you are perfect in spiritual life, you will understand what is your relationship with Krsna automatically. That is called svarupa-siddhi
- When you are trained up properly, you come to the platform of raga-marga, then your relationship . . . that is called svarupa-siddhi
- When you become spotless, then your senses are engaged in the servant of the master of the senses. That is called bhakti
- When you come to this knowledge perfectly that, "I not this body; I am soul," that is called brahma-bhuta stage, aham brahmasmi, Brahman realization or spiritual realization
- When you follow without consideration of whether it (the order of the spiritual master and the order of the sastra, or scripture) is convenient or inconvenient, simply because it must be done, that is called tapasya
- When you give up this designation, that is called mukti. Mukti does not mean that you get some extraordinary position. Mukti means to become free from these material designations. It is same attachment, diversion of attachment to Krsna
- When you try to fulfill the desires of Krsna, that is prema. And when you want to fulfill your own desires, that is called kama. There is no other
- When you understand what is sanatana, and we employ ourself in that process, that is called execution of sanatana-dharma
- When you will be perfect in love, in loving Krsna, then in what status of life you will love, that will be revealed. That is called svarupa-siddhi
- When you're persistent that, "I must do it," then the Supersoul orders, "All right, you can do at your own risk." That is called karma-phala
- When your consciousness will be absorbed in Krsna's thought, that is called Krsna consciousness. And that is your perfect consciousness
- When, freed from such unwanted association and from the contamination of material desires, one favorably cultivates knowledge of Krsna, that is called pure devotional service. BG 1972 purports
- Where is your national? Your national home is back to home, back to Godhead. That is your national, real, actual home. That is called sanatana. That I was explaining
- Who is following the acarya? Nobody is following. Acarya is there, but nobody is following acarya. Acarana. Acarana means behavior. Acarya that, "This man is ideal. One should follow him." That is called acarya
- Who surrenders to Krsna? Unless one is fully in knowledge, "What is Absolute Truth, what I am, what is my relationship with the Absolute Truth" That is called knowledge
- Why don't you manufacture something that men will not die? Then I could consider your merit. - But no; his merit is utilized for doing something sinful. That is called duskrtinah
- Why one is being born through the mother of a cat or through the mother of dog or a human being or a king or a demigod? Through mother you have to come out. That is called yoni
- Why should I give me away to the animal life? Visayah khalu sarvatah syat. Visaya means the four necessities of material life. That is called visaya
- Why there is so much fighting? Everyone is thinking, "I am this body." This bodily concept of life is maya, illusion, or ignorance. So the whole process is to drive away the ignorance. Drive away. That is called jnana. We are in the ajnana
- With the mind & the senses he's trying for happiness, but there is no happiness. That is called illusion. Happiness is beyond the senses. Sukham atyantikam yat tad atindriyam grahyam (BG 6.21). If you want real happiness that is transcendental happiness
- Within the heart. If you push your hand within his heart, you'll find he has got all desires for material enjoyment. That is called phalgu vairagya. On the surface there is no water; sand. But within, oh, there is flow of water, going on
- Without sense control nobody can make any progress in human life. Tapasya. That is called tapasya. The yoga is also another tapasya
- Working on this body, we are getting different result. That is called karma. So according to different karma, we are getting different body
Y
- Yajna means to sacrifice for the satisfaction of the Supreme Person. That is called yajna
- Yajna means we have to satisfy the Supreme Person. That is called yajna. And this process can be executed when the human society is very regulated. Regulated means there must be division of these varnas and asramas
- Yoga means linking up with the Supreme, and karma, when it is linked up with Krsna, that is called karma-yoga
- Yoni means the source of birth. Just like we take our birth, the source is the mother. From the mother's womb we come out. That is called yoni, the source
- You Americans, you came from Europe, and now you have developed the whole America, very nice cities, towns, and very well developed. That is called the exploiting the resources
- You are inclined to work. All right, work. But link up your result of work with Krsna. That is called karma-yoga
- You are under the control of the material nature and if you are manufacturing different ideas, nature will give you the facility to have such body. That is called transmigration of the soul
- You become a spiritual master under my order, under His order. Don't manufacture yourself. Under the order of Caitanya Mahaprabhu. That is called parampara system, one who is following in disciplic succession the order of Caitanya Mahaprabhu
- You can combine so many words, but still, it is beyond that expression. That is called adhoksaja. Not by vocabulary we can understand what is the nature of God, or, in one word, that God is beyond our this material sense perception
- You can get light of the spiritual world, by sattva-guna. But you have to surpass the sattva-guna. That is called suddha-sattva, untinted, without any tinge of these rajo-guna and tamo-guna
- You can have a permanent life, permanent dress, permanent knowledge, if you become free from this dress-changing problem. That is called mukti. The Krsna consciousness movement is to stop this business of dress changing
- You cannot by your teeny effort with limited power, limited sense, I mean to say, perception, you cannot speculate. You have to understand from authoritative statements. That is called Veda
- You cannot get out of it so long you do not stop acceptance of another material body. That is called real liberation, no more accepting material body
- You cannot go beyond your nature. If you go beyond your nature, that is called maya. Maya means what is not
- You cannot take any service from anyone without being indebted. We are becoming entangled, complicated with indebtedness. That is called karma
- You don't require it. It has no existence. There is no pleasure, but still you are attached to it. That is called maya, illusion
- You have earned this, you have made this America so nice by tapasya, by austerity. It has not come out automatically. You have labored hard. That is called tapasya
- You have to be fully in knowledge how to save yourself from the contamination of the modes of material nature. That is called gata-sangasya muktasya. Then you are free. So that is also stated, how you can become gata-sangasya
- You have to fix up your mind not only thinking of Krsna, but also working for Krsna, feeling for Krsna. That is complete meditation. That is called samadhi. Your mind cannot go out
- You know: due to the heat in the sunshine the planets are rotating, resting on the sunshine. Similarly, there is a shining effulgence from the body of God, Krsna. That is called brahmajyoti, impersonal Brahman
- You may remain in the same body, but if you are not under maya, bodily concept of life, that is called mukti, liberation
- You must join this Krsna consciousness movement. That is my request. That is called nivrtti-marga. And gradually, you will be elevated to the topmost position, that you have no more attraction for these material things. That is possible
- You should not expect something in return of your love for God. That is called jnana-karma. Anukulyena means simply you have to satisfy Krsna. That is the platform of the Vrndavana
- You study any part of your body, you will find that the part of body belongs to you. You'll say: "It is my leg, my hand, my hair, my nose." So many things "my." Then where is the "I"? That is called jnana, knowledge. Everything is "my," but where I am?
- You'll find nowadays impersonalists, voidists, so many brahmanas, they have no idea what is the . . . what is God, who is God. That is called avaisnava. Vaisnava knows what is Visnu, what is God. But avaisnava, non-Vaisnava, they do not know
- You'll never get perfection if you fall down. You can cheat others that, "I am in dress of a devotee, so I am . . ." But what is your character? What is your actual value? That has to be judged. That is called bona fide teacher
- You'll simply hankering after, but there will be no satisfaction. Therefore Narottama says, visaya-visanale. Visaya means these material demands, eating, sleeping, mating, these are called visaya. They are just like poison, fire. So everyone is burning
