- A devotee need not practice yoga, karma or jnana to achieve a successful result. Devotional service alone is competent to award a devotee all material power
- A first-class person is one who is not influenced by karma (fruitive activity) or yoga (mystic power). He simply depends on Krsna and is satisfied in his devotional service
- A little movement of the mind can change the whole consciousness. Therefore in India one seriously practicing yoga traditionally remained brahmacari, or celibate
- A man engaged in devotional service rids himself of both good and bad reactions even in this life. Therefore strive for yoga, which is the art of all work
- A person in brahma-yoga, or Krsna consciousness, is so absorbed in the loving service of the Lord that he loses his taste for material sense pleasure altogether. BG 1972 purports
- A person in the mode of ignorance is lazy and prone to sleep a great deal. Such a person cannot perform yoga. BG 1972 purports
- A person is said to be elevated in yoga when, having renounced all material desires, he neither acts for sense gratification nor engages in fruitive activities
- A person is said to have attained to yoga when, having renounced all material desires, he neither acts for sense gratification nor engages in fruitive activities. BG 6.4 - 1972
- A strong devotee makes propaganda against all other spiritual conceptions - namely jnana, karma and yoga. With his devotional flag unfurled, he always stands fast to conquer other conceptions of transcendental realization
- According to the Nirukti, or the Vedic dictionary, sankhya means that which describes phenomena in detail, and sankhya refers to that philosophy which describes the real nature of the soul. And yoga involves controlling the senses
- According to the yoga, God is the Supreme Person. Now just see. This is authoritative statement. You have been in so many yoga societies. Did you ever hear that God is the Supreme Person? Now just see
- Achieving such material success in yoga (eight yogic perfections) is not the perfection or the ultimate goal. The ultimate goal is described here (SB 3.21.12): Kardama Muni saw the Supreme Personality of Godhead in His eternal form
- Actually yoga meditation means to see the form of the Lord, four-handed visnu-murti within the heart. That is real meditation. Now these rascals, they have manufactured so-called meditation. That is not meditation
- Actually, the intelligent practitioner of yoga should aspire for nothing else but to cross over the ocean of nescience by worshiping the Personality of Godhead and to see the lotus feet of the Lord
- Actually, yoga means meditation on the form of Lord Visnu. If the yoga practice is actually performed according to the standard direction, there is no difference between yoga and bhakti-yoga
- After many births, mature yogis, by complete trance in yoga, endeavor in secluded places to see the lotus feet of the Supreme Personality of Godhead
- After self-realization there are eight further perfectional stages, which are called yoga-siddhis
- All forms of yoga are meant for transcendental life, but the method of chanting is especially effective in this age
- All of the yoga-siddhis, or perfections, are material arts. For example, in one yoga-siddhi there is development of the power to become so light that one can float in the air or on water
- All of them (karmis, jnanis and yogis) are trying to be materially perfect, but a devotee very easily comes to the platform of nirguna in devotional service, and consequently for the devotee the results of karma, jnana and yoga become very insignificant
- All other activities for self-realization, including yoga and philosophical speculation, may be given up, but devotional service must be retained at all times
- All other yogas, they may help you to come to this platform of Krsna consciousness. But if you fail to come to this platform of Krsna consciousness, then all those troubles will be useless labor
- Almost no one is attracted to such arcana activity. Everyone is more or less attracted by activities which are conditions of rebellion against the Supreme Lord. The systems of jnana and yoga are also indirectly rebellious acts against the Lord
- Although Krsna previously explained the proficiency of executing Vedic rituals, performing fruitive activity as enjoined in the Vedas, practicing yoga and cultivating jnana, these last instructions are most powerful and stand above all the others
- Although Sri Krsna indicates that He can be easily reached by one who is devoted to Him, there is an element of risk involved for the yogis who practice other methods of yoga
- Another significant word is yoga-kaksam. Yoga-kaksa is the sitting posture in which the left thigh is fixed under one's tightly knotted saffron-colored garment
- Any yoga system means an endeavor to connect our relationship with the Supreme Lord. That is called yoga. Someone is trying to make the connection, karma-yoga. Someone is trying by jnana-yoga. Someone is trying hatha-yoga. But the real aim is bhakti-yoga
- Artificially, they (materialists) may sit down for so-called meditation, but immediately after their yogic performance they will engage themselves again in such activities as illicit sex life, gambling, meat-eating and many other nonsensical things
- As Brahman and Paramatma realization are imperfect realizations of the Absolute Truth, so the means of realizing Brahman and Paramatma, i.e., the paths of jnana and yoga, are also imperfect means of realizing the Absolute Truth
- As confirmed by the Supreme Personality of Godhead in Bhagavad-gita (6.47): Of all yogis, he who always abides in Me with great faith, worshiping Me in transcendental loving service, is most intimately united with Me in yoga and is the highest of all
- As confirmed in the Bhagavad-gita, the topmost yoga is to think always of Lord Krsna within the heart, and the topmost sacrifice is to perform the sankirtana-yajna
- As explained by the Lord Himself in Bhagavad-gita (6.47): "Of all yogis, he who always abides in Me with great faith, worshiping Me in transcendental loving service, is most intimately united with Me in yoga and is the highest of all"
- As far as fruitive work is concerned, it is limited to an enjoyable body; as far as yoga is concerned, it is limited to the acquirement of mystic power
- As far as the inhabitants of Siddhaloka are concerned, they are endowed with all mystic powers. The yogis in this planet practice the eightfold yogic mysticism - namely yama, niyama, asana, pranayama, pratyahara, dharana, dhyana and samadhi
- As gold and silver can be freed from all dirty contamination by being put into a fire but not merely by being washed, the living entity can be awakened to his own identity by performing devotional service (yat-sevaya), but not by karma, jnana or yoga
- As long as one continues to be subject to polluted desires, he has to accept one material body after another. So-called yogis, without knowledge of the real purpose of yoga, practice it in order to keep the body fit
- As Lord Krsna says in Bhagavad-gita (BG 6.47): "Of all yogis, he who always abides in Me with great faith, worshiping Me in transcendental loving service, is most intimately united with Me in yoga and is the highest of all"
- As Lord Krsna says in Bhagavad-gita (BG 6.47): Of all yogis, he who always abides in Me with great faith, worshiping Me in transcendental loving service, is most intimately united with Me in yoga and is the highest of all
- As the Lord Himself recommends in Bhagavad-gita (BG 6.47): Of all yogis, he who always abides in Me with great faith, worshiping Me in transcendental loving service, is most intimately united with Me in yoga and is the highest of all
- At least 5000 years ago, Sukadeva ascertained the existence of Maru in Kalapa-grama and said that Maru, having achieved a yoga-siddha body, would continue to exist until the end of Kali-yuga. Such is the perfection of mystic power
- At the end of the Sixth Chapter (BG), it has been clearly stated that the steady concentration of the mind upon Krsna, or in other words Krsna consciousness, is the highest form of all yoga. BG 1972 purports
- At the present moment people are very proud of their architectural art, yet floors are generally decorated with colored cement. It appears, however, that the castle constructed by the yogic powers of Kardama Muni had floors of emerald with coral daises
- At the present moment, who will be successful in the rigid performance of the many yoga rules and regulations? Moreover, perfection is attained only by those who are surrendered souls
- Authoritative yoga scriptures
B
- Because of his mature position in yogic meditation, Dhruva Maharaja was constantly observing the form of the Personality of Godhead within his heart
- Because one cannot understand, therefore He has explained karma-yoga, jnana-yoga, dhyana-yoga, hatha-yoga, this yoga. And He has explained also the meaning
- Because the mind is restless and undependable, it must remain always under control. Even the mind of the advanced yogi Saubhari created such a disturbance that he lost his yogic mystic powers
- Being born in a family of those who execute yoga or devotional service, one remembers his spiritual activities executed in his previous life
- Being fully absorbed in Krsna consciousness (samadhi-yoga). always thinking of Krsna, Vasudeva, Maharaja Nabhi attained success at the end of his life and was promoted to the spiritual world, Vaikunthaloka
- Bhagavad-gita is divided into three primary divisions-karma-yoga, jnana-yoga and bhakti-yoga. The word yoga means "acting on behalf of the Supreme Personality of Godhead."
- Bhakti means finish this, all this nonsense business, karma, jnana, yoga. Simply surrender to Krsna
- Bhakti-yoga is a feasible process that begins with chanting and hearing. Bhakti-yoga and other yogas have as their ultimate goal the same Personality of Godhead, but one is practical, and the others are difficult
- Bhaktya mam abhijanati (BG 18.55): by devotional service. Neither by jnana, yoga, karma, no, that will not touch. You cannot become mad after Krsna by any means except by this devotional service. Therefore, we are so much conservative
- Bhunjate te tv agham papa ye pacanty atma-karanat. Anyone who eats for sense pleasure, or cooks for himself, not offering his food to Krsna, eats only sin. One who eats sin and eats more than is allotted to him cannot execute perfect yoga. BG 1972 pur
- Bon Maharaja left the field, others left the field. You see? Other svamis, they came. They talked all nonsense, yoga, and this and that, nose pressing, eyes pressing - all finished. Now Hare Krsna is going on
- Both (those who are personally killed by the Lord and those who rely on personal endeavors of mental speculation or mystic powers of yoga) achieve the salvation of merging in the brahmajyoti rays of the transcendental body of the Lord
- Brahma created four principles of knowledge: sankhya, or empirical philosophy for the analytical study of material conditions; and yoga, or mysticism for liberation of the pure soul from material bondage
- Brahma created the four great sages Sanaka, Sananda, Sanatana and Sanat to entrust them with these four principles (sankhya, yoga, vairagya and tapas) of spiritual advancement
- Breathing exercise means if you can stop breathing, then you increase your life. That is called samadhi. No more breathing. That is yogic success
- Buddhi means intelligence, and yogam means mystic activities or mystic elevation. When one tries to go back home, back to Godhead, and takes fully to Krsna consciousness in devotional service, his action is called buddhi-yogam. BG 1972 purports
- By all these stages of practice (yama, niyama, asana, pranayama, pratyahara, dharana, dhyana and samadhi) one must realize Lord Visnu, who is the target of all yoga
- By controlling the senses, or by the process of yoga regulation, one can understand the position of his self, the Supersoul, the world and their interrelation; everything is possible by controlling the senses. Otherwise, we are no better than animals
- By devotional service only does one's heart become completely purified from all material coverings like karma, jnana and yoga
- By discharging pure devotional service one attains the highest stage of love of Godhead and is freed from all other obligations, such as those mentioned in the karma-kanda, jnana-kanda, and yoga-kanda sections of the Vedas
- By executing devotional service one automatically becomes an expert jnani and an expert yogi. In other words, jnana and yoga are different preliminary stages of devotional service
- By material association and education, we learn simply to concentrate on flimsy things, but yoga is the process of forgetting them altogether
- By performance of yoga Kardama Muni actually saw the Supreme Lord as He is. There was no point in seeing an imagined form of God after practicing yoga for ten thousand years
- By practice of Krsna consciousness yoga, one can know everything in full-namely the Absolute Truth, the living entities, the material nature, and their manifestations with paraphernalia. BG 1972 purports
- By practice of such yoga (moving air within the body by breathing movement) one is able to gain control over the senses, refrain from outward sense objects, and thus prepare oneself for liberation in the Supreme. BG 1972 purports
- By practicing pranayama to control the air within the body through yoga, and by eating only air and dry leaves fallen from the trees, you (Vasudeva and Devaki) cleansed from your minds all dirty things - SB 10.3.34-35
- By practicing the tapasya and yoga and. . . Nothing will help you, because the age is very fallen. He (Caitanya) especially mentioned, kalau nasty eva nasty eva nasty eva gatir anyatha
- By regularly practicing the yogic processes, the yogis attain various perfections; they can become smaller than the smallest, heavier than the heaviest, etc. They can even manufacture a planet, get whatever they like & control whatever man they want
- By such (samadhi) practice of yoga, or linking up in the service of the Lord, one is recognized by the Lord Himself, as it is explained in the Bhagavad-gita concerning the highest perfectional stage of samadhi
- By the process of karma, jnana and yoga, no one will succeed in driving away contamination from the heart, but once a person takes to the shelter of the lotus feet of the Lord by devotional service, automatically all dirty things in the heart are removed
- By these three divisions of advancement in yoga - yogaruruksu, yogarudha and prapta-siddhi - there are six kinds of mystic yogis
- By virtue of such attraction (of Krsna), one can give up fruitive activities and all endeavors for liberation and can even abandon the intense desire to achieve success in yoga mystic power
- By yoga, you can understand how to connect yourself with God, and bhakti means direct service to the Supreme Personality of Godhead
C
- Caitanya Mahaprabhu says, "In this age there is no other alternative, there is no other alternative." The so-called meditation, yoga or karma, jnana, mental speculation - everything will fail
- Caitanya quoted from the Lord's instructions to Uddhava in SB: My dear Uddhava, neither philosophical speculation, nor meditational yoga, nor penances can give Me such pleasure as devotional service practiced by the living entities - SB 11.14.20
- Children at the age of five are sent to the guru-kula, or the place of the spiritual master, and the master trains the young boys in the strict discipline of becoming brahmacaris. Without such practice, no one can make advancement in any yoga. BG 1972 p

- Despite leading a life of uncontrolled sense indulgence, we attend yoga classes and expect to attain success. There are so many rules and regulations involved in the proper execution of yoga, and most of us can hardly give up a simple habit like smoking
- Devotees do not have to endeavor for any yoga-siddhi, or perfection in mystic powers. They are competent to understand everything by the grace of the Lord, who is sitting in everyone's heart
- Devotional service to Krsna is the chief function of the living entity. There are different methods for the liberation of the conditioned soul - karma, jnana, yoga and bhakti - but all are dependent on bhakti
- Dhruva Maharaja went to practice mystic yoga to see the Lord personally, face to face, but when he developed an interest in devotional service, he saw that he was not being benefited by karma, jnana and yoga
- Due to neglecting the lotus feet of the Lord, these yogis (the followers of the Patanjali system) again fall down into the material existence (patanty adhah). Consequently this path of yoga is more abominable than the impersonalists’ path
E
- Either she (Sati) learned yoga from her husband or she was enlightened because she was the daughter of such a great king as Daksa
- Even if one concentrates his mind on the boar form of the Lord, that is also yoga
- Even those yogis who are attracted by the siddhis (perfections) in the process of yoga are not perfectly situated. BG 1972 purports
- Everyone is trying to reach the ultimate Absolute Truth, but the other yogas end in partial understanding
F
- Factually the Supreme Personality of Godhead is the original source of all self-realization. Consequently, the goal of all auspicious activities - karma, jnana, yoga and bhakti - is the Supreme Personality of Godhead
- Following the regulations, controlling the senses and practicing the different sitting postures are merely the preliminary practices (of attaining perfection of yoga)
- Foolish person always desires material opulence, which can be attained by karma, jnana & yoga. But when one is actually elevated to the devotional platform, he gives up all these desires. This is called anyabhilasita-sunya. Then one becomes a pure devotee
- For one who is a neophyte in the eightfold yoga system, work is said to be the means; and for one who has already attained to yoga, cessation of all material activities is said to be the means. BG 6.3 - 1972
- For one who is a neophyte in the eightfold yoga system, work is said to be the means; and for one who is already elevated in yoga, cessation of all material activities is said to be the means
- For one who reaches that supreme abode (of Krsna), penances, austerities, yogic meditations, and so on are no longer required, and for one who does not reach it, all penances and austerities are a useless waste of time
G
- Generally people execute religious practices for economic development or sense gratification, but that is not recommended for one who wants to advance in yoga
- Generally the processes of jiana, yoga and karma are executed life after life before one gets a chance to render pure devotional service to the Lord
- Generally, the different bodily postures in the yoga system are accepted by less intelligent men to be the end of yoga, but actually they are meant to concentrate the mind upon the Supersoul
- Give up all these manufactured yogas and religions and just surrender unto Me. That is Krsna's instruction, and Krsna's representative, the incarnation or the guru, says the same thing
H
- Having attained to the stage of devotion, Maharaja Prthu became uninterested in the practices of jnana and yoga and abandoned them. This is the stage of pure devotional life as described by Rupa Gosvami
- He (Arjuna) is asking what becomes of the unsuccessful yogi, or the person who attempts to perform yoga but somehow desists and does not succeed. It is something like a student who does not get his degree because he drops out of school
- He (Kardama Muni) gives evidence that those who are actually elevated in yoga aspire in life after life to see this form of the Personality of Godhead
- He (Maharaj Prthu) was to return home, back to Godhead, without having to execute jnana, yoga or karma
- He (the devotee of God) has no need to practice any other type of yoga in order to approach the brahma-bhuta stage - SB 4.30.20
- He does not consider himself alone because at all times the Paramatma - Supersoul - is with him. From this we see that in modern civilization it is indeed very difficult to execute this meditational form of yoga properly
- Here (in SB 3.29.35) the Supreme Personality of Godhead Kapiladeva perfectly explains that the mystic yoga system, consisting of eight different kinds of yoga activities, has to be performed with the aim of coming to the perfectional stage of bhakti-yoga
- Here (SB 3.21.4) Vidura inquired about Kardama Muni and his wife, Devahuti, and about their children. It is described here that Devahuti was very much advanced in the performance of eightfold yoga
- Here is a factual example (Maru - a descendent of Kusa) of perfection: a yoga-siddha can live as long as he likes
- Here is the secret of yoga system. Yoga indriya-samyama. The real purpose of yoga is to control the senses
- Here it is the real purpose of human life: vasudeva-para veda vasudeva-para makhah, vasudeva-para yogah. There are so many yogis. I can clearly say that without Vasudeva, yoga - simply pressing the nose, that's all - this is not yoga
- How many offspring did that great yogi beget through the princess, who was endowed with eightfold perfection in the yoga principles? Oh, pray tell me this, for I am eager to hear it
I
- I am very much encouraged to learn that you are bold enough to challenge any nondevotee as you did with that impersonalist yoga student. That should be the temperament of all our preachers
- I can challenge all this so-called yoga societies in the western countries that they are not standard in terms of Vedic yoga system
- I understand that you have started to firmly initiate a campus society, called OSU Yoga Society. It would have been better to name it as Bhakti Yoga Society, otherwise the society may be understood as one of the many yoga societies
- I want to keep myself fit to enjoy life. Oh, let me take this yoga, or let me go to the church. Let me have a swami as my spiritual master, order-supplier. So these things are going on all over the world
- If he has got any other desire to fulfill, then it is mixed. It is not suddha-bhakti; it is vaidhi-bhakti. Karma-misra-bhakti, jnana-misra-bhakti, yoga-misra-bhakti. Bhakti must be there. Otherwise, karma, jnana, yoga, nothing is successful
- If he is properly executing this meditational yoga, he stays alone in the jungles, forests or mountains and avoids society altogether. At all times he must be convinced for whom he has become a yogi
- If one has faith he is firmly convinced that simply by rendering devotional service to Lord Krsna all other activities are automatically performed - including ritualistic duties, sacrifices, yoga and the speculative pursuit of knowledge
- If one hears and chants without trying to give up offenses one may also desire freedom from material bondage like the Mayavadis, or one may become attached to the yoga-siddhis and desire wonderful yogic powers
- If one is fortunate enough to come to the point of bhakti-yoga, it is to be understood that he has surpassed all the other yogas. Therefore, to become Krsna conscious is the highest stage of yoga. BG 1972 purports
- If one is intelligent he will associate with those who are trying to elevate themselves to the platform of self-realization through one of the various forms of yoga
- If one is unable to give up the activities of his selfish nature, then jnana and yoga are of no avail. The real aim is for a living entity to give up all selfish satisfaction and to be prepared to satisfy the Supreme. BG 1972 purports
- If one wants to engage in yoga at home, then he has to make certain that his other engagements are moderate. He cannot spend long hours of the day working hard to simply earn a livelihood
- If the real purpose of all yoga is to please Lord Krsna, then this simple bhakti-yoga system recommended for this age is sufficient. It is necessary to engage constantly in the service of the Lord
- If the yogis are attracted by the by-products of yoga, then they cannot attain the stage of perfection, as is stated in this verse (BG 6.20-23). BG 1972 purports
- If we are situated in the transcendental position (bhakti), we can understand Krsna, Krsna cannot be understood by mental speculation; otherwise He would have said that He could be understood by jnana, karma or yoga
- If we chant this vibration of transcendental sound with devotion and with attention, that is the highest type of meditation and yoga. And very easy
- If you are not minding, the chanting will force you to mind upon Him. You see? Krsna sound will by force. Chanting is so nice. And this is the practical yoga in this age. You cannot meditate
- If you connect yourself again with the supreme yoga - that is called real yoga - then you get rid of this so-called material happiness and distress, which is due to this body
- If you do not come to the bhakti platform, then there is no question of liberation. That is not possible. You can get better position by karma, jnana, yoga
- If you want to know Krsna, it is not possible to any other means. There are many other means - karma, yoga, jnana and bhakti - but if you want to know Krsna, then you have to take the bhakti-yoga, no other
- If you want to know Krsna, then you have to accept bhakti, nothing else. Krsna never says jnana or yoga or karma will help you. No, that will not help. That will entangle you more and more - again repetition of birth and death
- If your life is so made that in every step you are feeling presence of Krsna, then it is Krsna consciousness. That is the first-class yoga
- If, through yoga, the mind can be trained, then the mind is our friend. But if the mind is left untrained, then there is no possibility of leading a successful life
- In Bhagavad-gita (BG 6.3) karma-yoga is recommended: "For one who is a neophyte in the yoga system, work is said to be the means; and for one who has already attained to yoga, cessation of all material activities is said to be the means"
- In Bhagavad-gita it is said that one must practice the breathing exercise (abhyasa-yoga-yuktena). By virtue of these processes of control, the mind cannot wander to external thoughts (cetasa nanya-gamina)
- In Bhagavad-gita there are descriptions of karma-yoga, jnana-yoga, bhakti-yoga, dhyana-yoga, etc., but unless one comes to the point of bhakti-yoga, these other yogas cannot help one attain the highest perfection of life
- In Bhagavad-gita, therefore, it is clearly stated, in the Sixteenth Chapter, verse 17, that rascals of self-made authority, being puffed up by illegally collected money, perform yoga without following the authoritative books
- In complete Krsna consciousness one knows that Krsna is ultimate knowledge beyond any doubts. Different types of yoga are only steppingstones on the path of Krsna consciousness. BG 1972 purports
- In many yoga societies we find that people sit cross-legged and very straight, then close their eyes to meditate, and so fifty percent of them go to sleep because when we close our eyes and have no subject matter for contemplation, we simply go to sleep
- In meditational yoga one must also be devoid of fear. There is no question of fear when one enters spiritual life
- In order to keep healthy, why take shelter of yoga? We can become healthy through regular exercises and regulated diet. Why resort to yoga? Because: kamais tais tair hrta-jnanah - BG. 7.20
- In performance of yoga there are eight divisions, such as yama and niyama - controlling, following the rules and regulations, then practicing the sitting postures, etc
- In reality, "What I am," that can be understood through devotional service, not by karma, jnana, yoga. Give this example, I mean to say, authoritative statement of Krsna, that bhaktya mam abhijanati - BG 18.55
- In regards to the International Yoga and Meditation Conference in Chicago, there is no need for any of our men to participate. However, you can have a Bhakti-yoga bookstall, and paintings, a painting of Dhruva Maharaja as 5 years old alone in the forest
- In Stanford University although the demonstration was first introduced still they took it as hypnotic chant. Many Yoga societies here feeling the strength of our movement
- In that yoga-pitha, the personifications of religion, knowledge, opulence and renunciation are all seated at the lotus feet of the Lord. The four Vedas, namely Rk, Sama, Yajur and Atharva, are present there personally to advise the Lord
- In the beginning of Kapiladeva's instruction He said, yoga adhyatmikah pumsam cato nihsreyasaya me. That is yoga. What is that? That is explained, that adhyatmika, to save the soul
- In the Bhagavad-gita, after teaching so many things, yoga, jnana, karma and so many other things, at last Krsna says, sarva-guhyatamam: "Now I am speaking to you the most confidential instruction." What is that? Sarva-dharman parityajya
- In the course of time, this yoga imparted by Sri Krsna was lost. Why is this? Were there no learned sages at the time Sri Krsna was speaking to Arjuna
- In the execution of yoga, it is very important that the mind is not agitated. "As a lamp in a windless place does not waver, so the transcendentalist, whose mind is controlled, remains always steady in his meditation on the transcendent Self." - Bg. 6.19
- In the first six chapters of Bhagavad-gita, the living entity has been described as nonmaterial spirit soul which is capable of elevating himself to self-realization by different types of yogas. BG 1972 purports
- In the introductory portion signed by you and Gargamuni you have said that I am personally instructing John Lennon and George Harrison in the yoga of ecstasy. This is not very satisfactory
- In the Medini dictionary, yoga is explained by its result: yoge 'purvartha-sampraptau sangati-dhyana-yuktisu
- In the mellows of bhakti-yoga, there are two stages - ayoga and yoga
- In the name of yoga
- In the previous chapter (SB 3.27) it has been clearly stated that the desired result of yoga is not to achieve some wonderful mystic power
- In the revealed scriptures, the ultimate object of knowledge is Sri Krsna, the Personality of Godhead. The purpose of performing sacrifice is to please Him. Yoga is for realizing Him. All fruitive activities are ultimately rewarded by Him only
- In the sastra, yoga is described as dhyanavasthita, a state of full meditation, but this is meditation upon the Supreme Personality of Godhead
- In the Seventh and Eighth Chapters of Bhagavad-gita, pure devotional service to the Lord has been explained, apart from the yoga of knowledge and mystic yoga or fruitive activities. BG 1972 purports
- In the Sixth Chapter (of BG) the subject of yoga is explicitly detailed, and at the end of the Fifth it is only preliminarily explained. BG 1972 purports
- In the Sixth Chapter of Bhagavad-gita, Sri Krsna instructs Arjuna how to perform meditational yoga, but Arjuna rejects this as too difficult. How then is Arjuna considered to be a great yogi
- In the Srimad-Bhagavatam it has been clearly indicated that the servitor relationship with Krsna is the actual beginning of yoga realization
- In the transcendental mellows of neutrality and servitorship, there are similar divisions of yoga and viyoga, but they are not variegated
- In this age it is impossible to practice sacrifice, speculation or yoga. There is no way open to us but the way of hearing submissively from authoritative sources. This is the way the mahatmas received the most confidential knowledge
- In this age of Kali it is very difficult to adopt the yogic process mentioned in this verse (SB 4.23.17). Unless one is very expert in such yoga, the best course is to adopt the ways and means of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu, sri-krsna-sankirtanam
- In this chapter (of BG 8) Krsna answers these (BG 8.1) different questions of Arjuna beginning with, "What is Brahman?" God also explains karma, fruitive activities, devotional service & yoga principles, & devotional service in its pure form. BG 1972 pur
- In this old age I am traveling all over the world. Can any karmi do that? So if you become Krsna conscious, then karma, jnana, yoga, everything becomes perfect. That is Krsna consciousness
- In this regard, the word yogaya is very significant. The purpose of astanga-yoga, as stated by Madhvacarya, is to link or connect with the Supreme Personality of Godhead. The goal is not to display some material perfections
- In this verse (in SB 4.6.33) the word maha-yogamaye is very significant. Yoga means meditation on the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and maha-yoga means those who engage in the devotional service of Visnu
- In this way (by pranayama yoga, and by eating only air and dry leaves fallen from the trees cleansed your minds from all dirty things), desiring a benediction from Me (Krsna), you (Devaki and Vasudeva) worshiped Me with peaceful minds - SB 10.3.34-35
- In this way (in real yoga practice there are eight kinds of perfection) yogic perfection is achieved, and after this one can achieve the perfection of spiritual life
- In transcendental state, a devotee attains all the benefits of karma, jnana and yoga. Although he never engages in fruitive activities or empiric speculation to attain mystic powers, automatically mystic powers appear in his service
- In yoga it is necessary to control all of the senses, and when all the senses are controlled, the mind must be engaged in thinking of Visnu. One becomes peaceful after thus conquering material life
- In yoga one should have not only theoretical knowledge but practical knowledge. Simply understanding "I am not this body" and at the same time acting in a nonsensical way will not help
- In your young age you have taken to this process of Krishna Consciousness. This means that in your previous life you were advanced in yoga but somehow or other you were not able to complete but now you have taken to it as if automatically
- Indra, who has all the mystic powers (the yoga-siddhis such as anima and laghima), entered Diti's womb while she was unconscious, being fast asleep
- Instead of sitting in their hearts to be appreciated in yogic meditation, He seated Himself by their sides. By seating Himself outside, He showed special favor to the gopis, who were the selected beauties of all creation
- It (the yoga) is something like a long staircase, and the upward steps are variously designated as regulated work, transcendental knowledge, mystic powers, and ultimately bhakti-yoga, or devotional service
- It is a fact that persons who are trying to understand the Supreme Truth by their personal endeavors of mental speculation or mystic powers of yoga achieve the same goal as others who are personally killed by the Lord
- It is a very regrettable fact that many unauthorized and stray so-called yogis now come to the West and exploit the learning of the people towards yoga
- It is from Hiranyanabha that the great saint Yajnavalkya learned the highly elevated system of mystic yoga known as adhyatma-yoga, which can loosen the knots of material attachment in the heart
- It is not that after one practices some sitting postures he immediately becomes perfect. One has to perform yoga a long time - "many, many births" - to become mature, and a yogi has to practice in a secluded place
- It is not that one should continue to attend yoga classes and yet remain the same throughout his life; there must be practical realization
- It is recommended in the yoga scripture that one should put the soles of the feet between the two thighs and ankles and sit straight; that posture will help one to concentrate his mind on the Supreme Personality of Godhead
- It is said here (in SB 3.29.35) that one can approach the Supreme Personality of Godhead by either yoga process or bhakti-yoga process. This indicates that factually there is no difference between yoga and bhakti-yoga because the target of both is Visnu
- It is said: yoga adhyatmikah pumsam. Adhyatmikah: we are living entities, souls. It is not that we are disconnected from Krsna, but we have simply forgotten Him. It is not possible to be disconnected, but it is possible to be covered
- It is specifically stated in Bhagavad-gita that to perform meditational yoga one should go to a secluded and holy place. In other words, it is necessary to leave home
- It is stated here (in SB 3.28.1) that by following the system of yoga one can become joyful
- It is understood here (Sb 3.21.6) that Kardama Muni meditated in yoga for ten thousand years before attaining perfection. Similarly, we have information that Valmiki Muni also practiced yoga meditation for sixty thousand years before attaining perfection
- It is very difficult to push on this movement, but still we have to do it. This is the highest yoga. If you push on this movement of Krsna consciousness, then you'll be performing the highest type of yoga. Don't be misled by so-called yogas. This is yoga
- It is very easy and practical for this age (chanting Krsna's holy name), especially for those who are serious about success in yoga. No other process of yoga can be successful in this age
- It is very good news that you are introducing courses in Krsna Consciousness in the Universities and the yoga institutes. As you know this is the only real yoga - bhakti yoga - and it is the only practical means for God realization in this age
J
- Jnana and yoga should not be accepted as the real processes for liberation. By discharging devotional service, Maharaja Prthu automatically transcended all these positions
- Just like in a educational institution there is tenth class, eighth class, fifth class, sixth class. And with the yoga, it is just like a staircase or a lift. So there are different stages of perfection
- Just like in a educational institution there's tenth class, eighth class, fifth class, sixth class. & with the yoga, it's just like a staircase or lift. So there are different stages of perfection. The highest perfection is who's always thinking of Krsna
- Just like you have got a staircase to rise up to the fifth or sixth or tenth floor, or more than that, the whole staircase or the lift service is called yoga
K
- Karma, jnana and yoga cannot actually awaken love of Godhead
- Karma, jnana, yoga and bhakti. There are four primary principles for spiritual realization. So out of the four, karma, jnana and yoga, they are all material, but bhakti is not material. That is spiritual
- Karma, jnana, yoga, these things are very popular. By karma, by activities, you can earn money and fulfill your material desire. That is called karma
- Karma, jnana, yoga, they are all material enjoyment. Karma, karmis, generally we see everywhere. They are working so very hard, making plans how to improve material enjoyment. So they are called karmis
- Kausalam means expert service, expert, kausalam. Kusala. Kusala means auspicious, and from kusala it comes to kausala. That means if you learn the trick how to work on the platform of yoga, then that is the highest technique of doing work
- Knowledge is the best sacrifice because this conditional life is due to ignorance. The purpose of sacrifice, penance, yoga and philosophical discussion is to acquire knowledge
- Krsna consciousness is different from these (all the yogas) because it is the direct service of the Supreme Lord. BG 1972 purports
- Krsna consciousness is the easiest process of executing yoga principles. This will be thoroughly explained in the next chapter (of BG). BG 1972 purports
- Krsna consciousness is the highest yoga performance by trained devotional yogis
- Krsna consciousness, always absorbed in thought of Krsna - in sitting, in walking, in eating, in sleeping, everything. In working. That is first-class yoga. It is also yoga, but first-class yoga. Not third-class, fourth-class yoga
- Krsna consciousness, means to practice this, how to fix up the mind always at the lotus feet of Krsna. Krsna also advised the same thing: man-mana bhava mad-bhakto mad-yaji mam namaskuru. This is yoga, meditation
- Krsna consciousness. We are all student. We are trying. But there are degrees also. Just like in a educational institution there is tenth class, eighth class, fifth class, sixth class. And with the yoga, it is just like a staircase or a lift
- Krsna did not like to instruct the confidential system of yoga to any so-called impersonalist or so-called Vedantist. Arjuna was ordinary householder
- Krsna does not say that there is such a thing as dreamless sleep. As soon as we go to sleep, we will have a dream, although we may not remember it. In the Gita Krsna cautions that one who dreams too much while sleeping cannot properly execute yoga
- Krsna explains to Uddhava that the mechanical process of speculative knowledge and yoga is not necessary for advancing in devotional service
- Krsna proclaims that there is no difference between renunciation (sannyasa) and yoga
- Krsna says that millions of years before He spoke this yoga to the sun-god, and we do not know how many millions of years before that He spoke it to someone else
- Krsna says: "I instructed this imperishable science of yoga to the sun-god, Vivasvan, and Vivasvan instructed it to Manu, the father of mankind, and Manu in turn instructed it to Iksvaku." This is the process of disciplic succession
- Krsna tells Arjuna at the beginning of the Fourth Chapter: I (Krsna) instructed this imperishable science of yoga to the sun-god, Vivasvan, and Vivasvan instructed it to Manu, the father of mankind, and Manu in turn instructed it to Iksvaku - BG 4.1
- Ksema refers to the merciful protection of the Lord. The Lord helps the devotee to achieve Krsna consciousness by yoga, and when he becomes fully Krsna conscious the Lord protects him from falling down to a miserable conditioned life. BG 1972 purports
- Kundalini yoga
L
- Like a staircase, yoga has different steps for reaching the topmost floor, and according to one's position upon the staircase, he is understood to be situated in karma-yoga, jnana-yoga, dhyana-yoga or bhakti-yoga
- Like Vidura, an inquisitive conditioned soul must approach a bona fide spiritual master like Maitreya and by intelligent inquiries must try to know everything about 2) yoga - the linking process of spiritual realization
- Lord Buddha instructed his followers to give up these material coverings by means of meditation and yoga
- Lord Caitanya practically demonstrated Krsna consciousness yoga simply by chanting the holy names of Krsna as they were mentioned in the Vedanta, Srimad-Bhagavatam and many important Puranas
- Lord Kapila has said that perfect yoga enables one to transcend the platform of material distress & happiness. How this can be done is explained here (in SB 3.25.16): one has to purify his mind & consciousness. This can be done by the bhakti-yoga system
- Lord Kapila, the Personality of Godhead, who is the highest authority on yoga, here explains the yoga system known as astanga-yoga, which comprises eight different practices, namely yama, niyama, asana, pranayama, pratyahara, dharana, dhyana and samadhi
- Lord Krsna confirms in the Bhagavad-gita (BG 4.1): The Supreme Lord said, 'I instructed this imperishable science of yoga to the sun-god, Vivasvan, and Vivasvan instructed it to Manu, the father of mankind, and Manu in turn instructed it to Iksvaku
- Lord Sri Krsna is that Supreme, the Personality of Godhead. Being, therefore, the ultimate object of yoga, Krsna's name is yogesvara, the master of yoga
- Lord Visnu, Lord Brahma & Lord Siva are situated within this universe as the directors of the three modes, & their connection with the modes is known as yoga. This does not indicate, however, that these personalities are bound by the qualities of nature
M
- Maharaja Prthu's activities in devotional service enabled him to become fixed and steady in the discharge of devotional activities without having to take recourse to karma, jnana or yoga
- Manu is also mentioned in Bhagavad-gita (BG 4.1), where the Lord says: "I instructed this imperishable science of yoga to the sun-god, Vivasvan, and Vivasvan instructed it to Manu, the father of mankind, and Manu in turn instructed it to Iksvaku"
- Mayy asakta-manah pariah, yogam yunjan mad-asrayah, asamsayam samagram mamma, yatha jnasyasi tac chrnu. "My dear Partha, Arjuna, in order to know Me, God, asamsayam, without any doubt, and samagram," means in completeness
- Meditational yoga cannot be performed in an assembly, at least not according to Bhagavad-gita. It is not possible to concentrate the mind in the meditational system upon the Supersoul except in a secluded place
- Members of the Krsna consciousness movement are not at all interested in so-called meditation in the Himalayas or the forest, where one will only make a show of meditation, nor are they interested in opening many schools for yoga and meditation in cities
- Mission of yogic success
- My dear King, in a sacred and holy place of pilgrimage one should select a place in which to perform yoga. The place must be level and not too high or low. There one should sit very comfortably, being steady and equipoised, keeping his body straight
- My dear King, some brahmanas are very much attached to fruitive activities, some are attached to austerities and penances, and still others study the Vedic literature, whereas some, although very few, cultivate knowledge and practice different yogas
- My dear sons, the Lord is the controller of the three modes of nature and is responsible for the creation, preservation and dissolution of the universe. His wonderful creative power, yogamaya, cannot be easily understood even by the masters of yoga
N
- Naradhitah: if Hari, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, is not worshiped, there is no point in practicing meditational yoga, performing karma-yoga or culturing empiric knowledge
- Natural transcendental pleasure is the ultimate goal of yoga
- Never mind whether he is following a principle of philosophical research, whether he is following the yogic principle or whether he is following philanthropic work or political leadership, but the whole thing is targeted toward Krsna
- Nirguna means without any material qualities. So karma, jnana and yoga, they are all material qualities. Only bhakti is spiritual. Even in that bhakti, if you bring in karma, jnana or yoga, then it is mixed; it is not pure
- No one can excel God in any capacity, and therefore no one can be equal to or greater than Him, nor can anyone attain the stage of equality with God by any kind of endeavor. Jnana, yoga and bhakti are three recognized processes of spiritual realization
- No one can understand the SP of Godhead by executing karma-yoga, jnana, or astanga-yoga or any other yoga independantly. Without coming to the stage of devotional service, one cannot understand what is the Personality of Godhead. BG 1972 purports
- No other method will help you - yoga, karma, jnana, nothing. Bhakti-yoga is always strong, especially in this age, Kali-yuga. Therefore it is said, kalau nasty eva nasty eva nasty eva, especially
- Nondevotees, who do not take shelter of the Lord's lotus feet, try to cross the ocean of nescience by other methods (karma, jnana and yoga), but they have a great deal of trouble
- Not that I am going to a class and, weekly or twice weekly attending yoga class, and I remain the same thing for the so many years. No. There should be practical realization
- Now, Vrtrasura was in yoga-samadhi, and therefore although King Indra wanted to cut his throat, the demon's neck was so stiff that Indra's thunderbolt took 360 days to cut it to pieces
O
- On the other hand, those who are not devotees but are engaged in uncertain processes of self-realization, such as jnana, yoga and karma, are understood to be still contaminated
- One (the yoga practitioner) should be sure of success at the end and pursue this course with great perseverance, not becoming discouraged if there is any delay in the attainment of success. Success is sure for the rigid practitioner
- One (the yoga-siddhis) can fly in outer space without the aid of a machine, and he can travel at the speed of mind
- One absorbed in Krsna consciousness, in chanting the names of Krsna and serving Him always, receives the benefit of the highest form of yoga
- One cannot achieve the desired results of one's penances until one attains freedom from the present body. There are various ways to practice the various kinds of yoga to attain various results in various spheres of life
- One cannot practice yoga in a city or in a public park and declare that he has become God simply by some exchange of dollars. This is all bogus propaganda
- One form of yoga may be difficult and another may be easy, but in all cases one must purify his existence to the conception of Krsna conscious enjoyment. Then one will be happy
- One great sage once inquired from another, "My dear friend, do you think that after I perfect the eightfold yoga performance I shall be able to see the eternal form of the Supreme Personality of Godhead"
- One has to become the servant of Krsna, or the servant of the servant of Krsna. That is the right way to discharge duty in Krsna consciousness, which alone can help one to act in yoga. BG 1972 purports
- One has to concentrate on the form of the Lord, which is described here (in SB 4.8.45) in connection with Dhruva Maharaja's meditation. Dhruva Maharaja perfected this kind of meditation, and his yoga was successful
- One may attempt to practice meditational yoga in a large city or in a society, but one must understand that this is one's own concoction and is not the method recommended in Bhagavad-gita
- One should also perform this ceremony on the Mesa-sankranti day and the Tula-sankranti day, in the yoga named Vyatipata, on that day in which three lunar tithis are conjoined, during an eclipse of either the moon or the sun
- One should be undisturbed in mind. A man who is always disturbed in mind, he cannot perform yoga. That is not possible
- One should be very practical in every field of activities and should not waste his valuable time in practicing useless gymnastic feats in the name of yoga. Real yoga is to search out the four-handed Supersoul within one's heart
- One should not be attracted by the jugglery of karma-kanda or jnana-kanda or even the gymnastic performances of yoga, but skillfully should take to the simple performances of kirtanam, smaranam, etc., under a bona fide spiritual master
- One should not sleep more than six hours daily. Nor can one infected by insomnia, who cannot sleep at night, successfully execute yoga, for the body must be kept fit. Thus Krsna outlines so many requirements for disciplining the body
- One who aspires to reach the culmination of yoga and has realized his self by rendering service unto Me should never associate with an attractive woman, for such a woman is declared in the scripture to be the gateway to hell for the advancing devotee
- One who has attained yoga is not dependent on the dictations of his mind; rather, the mind comes under his control. Nor is the mind put out or extinguished, for it is the business of the yogi to think of Krsna or Visnu always
- One who has no such realization (by doing everything for the satisfaction of Krsna one can perfectly detached from sense gratification) must mechanically try to escape material desires before being elevated to the top rung of the yoga ladder. BG 1972 pur
- One who is not mature in his performance of yoga, he is given chance, another chance -- another chance in a very nice family, sucinam, very pure brahmana family; srimatam, very rich, royal or very rich mercantile family
- One who meditates on Krishna is the topmost yogi of all. We have explained this fact in our book "Topmost Yoga." I request you to read this book and meditate on Krishna, then you and your followers will be first class yogis performing the best meditation
- One who, at the time of death, fixes his life air between the eyebrows and, by the strength of yoga, with an undeviating mind, engages himself in remembering the Supreme Lord in full devotion, will certainly attain to the Supreme Personality of Godhead
- Only by the practice of bhakti-yoga can one achieve the favor of the Lord & see Him face to face (premanjana-cchurita-bhakti-vilocanena santah sadaiva hrdayesu vilokayanti (BS 5.38)). One cannot see the Lord by other methods, such as karma, jnana or yoga
- Only by the yogic process can one prolong the life. By stopping the breathing process, keeping in samadhi, the breath period is not being misused, and he increases the life span. Therefore, destiny can only be changed by devotional service or yoga
- Ordinary work is karma. And when it is added with yoga, that means spiritualized work. Yoga. Yoga means spiritual perfection or linking up with the Supreme. So karma and karma-yoga, there is gulf of difference
- Other processes, such as jnana and yoga, can be successful only when mixed with bhakti. When we speak of jnana-yoga, karma-yoga and dhyana-yoga the word yoga indicates bhakti
- Others (those who are not advanced in yoga) have no control-if by accident they leave at an auspicious moment, then they will not return to the cycle of birth and death, but if not, then there is every possibility that they will have to return. BG 1972 p
- Others may practice different patterns of yoga, and we can understand that everyone is trying to pass on the path of yoga, but bhakti yoga is the ultimate goal
- Otherwise (if one does not follow Krsna's instructions) one will be cheated by unauthorized meditation and gymnastic methods of yoga. Thus one will board a boat of stone, which will sink and drown all its passengers
- Our life should be so formed that in our every activity there will be God consciousness. That is the technique of yoga-sthah
- Our standard is to have kirtana, start temples. What is this "Road Show" and "Yoga Village?" It will be another hippie edition. Gradually the Krishna Consciousness idea will evaporate: another change, another change, every day another change
- Our stress should always be on Sankirtana Party. These "yoga" societies are useless
- Our student can twenty-four hours sit down before a Deity and chant Hare Krsna. Bring any student of any yoga society, let him sit down for five hours, he'll fail. They are so restless
- Our these students, they are being educated how to think of Krsna always, twenty-four hours, without any stop. And that is first-class yoga
P
- Patanjali, as he is, he takes practically, that without devotion of God, there is no success of yoga. Thus the yoga system has come to have both a theoretical and practical interest in the divine will
- People are gradually losing interest in temple worship even, what to speak of yoga or offering sacrifices. Everything is now finished. Therefore kalau tad dhari-kirtanat. This is prescribed in the sastra
- Pure bhakti does not depend on karma, jnana or yoga, for it simply consists of loving affairs
R
- Raddham indra-padam hitva tatah siddhim avapsyati. Siddhi consists of achieving the favor of Lord Visnu, not the yoga-siddhis
- Regarding a cover picture for Krishna Consciousness-the Topmost Yoga, I think you can make a picture of a devotee sitting cross-legged chanting japa before Radha Krsna Deities
- Regardless of the process (for yoga), once the fire of material life is extinguished, one does not simply experience what is called the impersonal void
- Rjubhir yoga-margaih. A very suitable word used here is rjubhih, or very easy
S
- Sai Baba. He is showing little yogic aisvarya. But people are, because they do not know, they are not aware of Krsna, they are taking him as God. You see?
- Sarva-dharman parityajya mam ekam saranam vraja. If you accept this principle, then you become actually transcendental to this so-called material happiness and distress. That is yoga
- Saubhari Rsi was a great yogi. Yogic perfection makes available eight material opulences - anima, laghima, mahima, prapti, prakamya, isitva, vasitva and kamavasayita
- Sense control is the perfection of the yoga principle, and one's liberation begins immediately as soon as he engages himself in the service of the Lord
- Siddhaloka. In that planet the residents they can fly without any sputnik or aeroplane. As we are trying to go from one place to another by aeroplanes, they can travel from one planet to another without any machine. By mantra-yoga they can fly
- Simply breathing deeply and doing some exercises is not yoga as far as Bhagavad-gita is concerned. A whole purification of consciousness is required
- Simply to understand Krsna is liberation. And that is also explained. What is that tattva? How one can understand tattvatah, that is explained by Krsna. Bhaktya mam abhijanati yavan yas casmi tattvatah. That tattva is bhakti, not karma, jnana, yoga
- Since one's mind at death is very disturbed, one should practice transcendence through yoga during one's life. BG 1972 purports
- Since the ultimate goal of yoga practice is to see the Lord within, a Krsna conscious person is already the best of all yogis. BG 1972 purports
- Sit down in a secluded place, in what is called yoga-asana, straight body and not sleeping, half-open eyes and looking over the tip of the nose. So many methods. That is called meditation. But this kind of meditation is very, very difficult in this age
- Sitting in an easy posture is called svasti samasinah. It is recommended in the yoga scripture that one should put the soles of the feet between the two thighs and ankles and sit straight; that posture will help one to concentrate his mind on the Supreme
- Small child, he doesn't require to earn money for spending. If he's rich man's son, his father will take care of him. Similarly, a devotee does not endeavor to become expert in jnana-yoga, dhyana-yoga, hatha-yoga, this yoga. He depends on Krsna
- So don't be misled by these bluffers' yoga system. Don't be misled. Here is yoga, Krsna, because yoga means to meditate upon the Supreme, dhyanavasthita-tad-gatena manasa, mind fully absorbed, and they see Krsna or Narayana, the same thing
- So-called yoga practices of voidism and impersonalism are not recommended in any standard yoga-sastra
- So-called yoga practices of voidism and impersonalism are not recommended in any standard yoga-sastra. The real yogi is the devotee because his mind is always concentrated on pastimes of Lord Krsna. Therefore Krsna consciousness is the topmost yoga system
- So-called yogis sometimes practice a fashionable form of yoga by closing their eyes and meditating, but we have actually seen such so-called yogis sleeping and snoring while meditating. This is not the practice of yoga
- Some important things are mentioned here (SB 3.24.28) about yoga
- Some of them are desirous of attaining mystic powers through the execution of yoga. As long as these desires are within one's heart, he cannot understand the nature of pure devotional service
- Some travel to all the sanctified places of pilgrimage. All these practices are called yoga-yajna, sacrifice for a certain type of perfection in the material world. BG 1972 purports
- Somebody is saying that in the Bhagavad-gita there is karma only recommended. Somebody says jnana. Somebody says yoga. Somebody says bhakti. But actually Bhagavad-gita is meant for bhaktas
- Sometimes in the heart of a neophyte there is attraction for karma, jnana or yoga. When he is free and transcendental to mixed devotional activity, he becomes a second-class devotee
- Sometimes the word yoga is used to refer to the gymnastic performances of different bodily postures which help mental concentration
- Sometimes they misrepresent themselves as karma-yogis, not knowing the meaning of the word yoga. Yoga means to link up with the Supreme Personality of Godhead, or to act in Krsna consciousness
- Sometimes we are criticized by groups following jnana, yoga, tapas or dharma, but fortunately we are unable to make any compromises with them. We simply stand on the platform of devotional service and preach the same principles all over the world
- Sometimes yogis do attain certain siddhis or powers, but these are not the purpose of yoga, and real yogis do not exhibit them. The real yogi thinks, - I am now contaminated by this material atmosphere, so now I must purify myself
- Sometimes, because we give stress directly to accept this devotional service, people are not very happy that we do not give any importance to the process of jnana and karma and yoga. We do not condemn, but they're very difficult
- Sometimes, of course, meditation goes on when one is sleeping, but this is not the recommended process for the execution of yoga. Thus to keep oneself awake Krsna advises that one always keep the tip of the nose visible
- Specifically mantra-yoga, the glorification of Sri Krsna through the chanting of Hare Krsna, is recommended in Vedic Scriptures and is introduced by great authorities like Caitanya Mahaprabhu
- Sri Krsna concludes His discourse in this way: "And of all yogis, he who always abides in Me with great faith, worshiping Me in transcendental loving service, is most intimately united with Me in yoga and is the highest of all." - Bg. 6.47
- Sri Krsna tells Arjuna that he must understand that renunciation (sannyasa) and yoga are the same because without being freed from desire and sense gratification one can become neither a yogi nor a sannyasi
- Sri, pusti, gir, kanti, kirti, tusti, ila, jaya, vidyavidya, maya, samvit, sandhini, hladini, bhakti, murti, vimala, yoga, prahvi, isana, anugraha, etc. All these energies act in different spheres of the Lord's supremacy
- Success in yoga involves getting free from these material coverings and entering into spiritual existence. Lord Buddha's teachings of nirvana are based on this principle
- Success in yoga is not acquisition of mystic power, which is condemned in the previous chapter, but, rather, freedom from all material designations and situation in one's constitutional position. That is the ultimate achievement in yoga practice
- Such a pretender's (who makes a show of being a yogi) mind is always impure, and therefore his show of yogic meditation has no value whatsoever. BG 1972 purports
- Such activities (jnana and yoga) help one to reach the stage of bhakti-yoga after many, many years
- Such an inquisitive transcendentalist, striving for yoga, stands always above the ritualistic principles of the scriptures. BG 6.44 - 1972
- Sukadeva Gosvami described the history of Saubhari Muni, who, because of sensual agitation caused by fish, fell from his yoga and wanted to marry all the daughters of Mandhata for sexual pleasure. Later, Saubhari Muni became very regretful
- Sukadeva Gosvami replied, "My dear king (Pariksit), the sinful activities must be atoned." There are three processes: karma, jnana, bhakti. So yoga is within the jnana. To improve our condition there are different processes. One is called karma
T
- That (when one has been freed from all material contamination by the blazing fire of yogic samadhi, or ecstasy) is the topmost perfection of yoga
- That is called yoga, to control the mind from all other subject matters and concentrate it on the Supreme Personality of Godhead. That is called yoga. Yoga means linking
- That is not yoga practice, smoking ganja, bidi, intoxication, tea, and he has become a yogi. These are useless, all bogus. Yoga means he has controlled his senses. Yoga indriya-samyamah
- That is yoga-siddhi, not merely showing some gymnastic process. No. One must be... That yoga-siddhi, it is not possible in this age because people are not expert to practice this yoga system
- That kundalini process of yoga is not possible in this age. It is a very difficult process. So we should recommend not to waste your valuable time following something which is not possible to be done by you
- That pure yoga means love of Godhead: "Krsna is my Lord; I am Krsna's servant" this much understanding, that "I am eternal servant of Krsna, so my life is for Krsna. Therefore all my activities should be simply directed for the benefit of Krsna"
- The activities of the senses can be stopped if they are given superior engagements. The supreme engagement is engagement of the senses in the service of the Lord. That is the purpose of all yoga
- The actual translation of the word yoga is "plus." At the present moment we are minus God, or minus the Supreme. But when we make ourselves plus - connected - then our human form of life is perfect
- The Americans are generally acquainted with the Indian Yoga gymnastics as it is performed by some Indian yogis here. They never heard of Bhakti cult or the Science of Krishna before and still they are hearing me - this very idea is a great success for me
- The answer (why Arjuna address Krsna as Madhusudana) is that Arjuna considers his mind to be like a great demon, such as the demon Madhu. If it were possible for Krsna to kill demon called the mind, then Arjuna would be able to attain perfection of yoga
- The astrologer Sarvajna further advised the poor man: On the southern side there are Vedic rituals, and on the western side there is mental speculation, and on the northern side there is meditational yoga
- The atheistic mystic practitioner of yoga cannot understand this perfect knowledge. Only persons who engage in the practical activities of devotional service in full Krsna consciousness can become absorbed in full samadhi
- The best practice of yoga in this age is Krsna consciousness, which is not baffling. A Krsna conscious person is so happy in his occupation that he does not aspire after any other happiness. BG 1972 purports
- The best yoga, as taught in Bhagavad-gita by Krsna, is bhakti-yoga
- The bhakti-yoga system is not newly introduced, for even five thousand years ago Lord Krsna recommended this bhakti-yoga as the topmost yoga
- The Blessed Lord said: I instructed this imperishable science of yoga to the sun-god, Vivasvan, and Vivasvan instructed it to Manu, the father of mankind, and Manu in turn instructed it to Iksvaku
- The Blessed Lord said: I instructed this imperishable science of yoga to the sun-god, Vivasvan, and Vivasvan instructed it to Manu, the father of mankind, and Manu in turn instructed it to Iksvaku. BG 4.1 - 1972
- The culmination of yoga is full Krsna consciousness
- The cultivation of knowledge by philosophical speculation, the collection of mundane opulence by the advancement of fruitive activities, and the desire for yoga-siddhis, material perfections, are all contrary to the principles of devotional service
- The demigods are worshiped by persons who are more or less adherents of the processes of jnana, yoga and karma, i.e., the impersonalists, meditators and fruitive workers
- The demonstration of some trifling yoga-siddha does not constitute perfection
- The desired result of yoga is not to achieve some wonderful mystic power
- The devotee can render service to any of the transcendental forms of the Supreme Lord, and he meets with none of the problems that plague the practitioners of other yogas. BG 1972 purports
- The devotees activities are not selfishly motivated, aimed at realizing his own cherished dreams, but are directed toward fulfilling the will of God on earth. This yoga is known as buddhi-yoga, wherein lies the entire world's good fortune
- The devotees are simply interested in being transferred to the personal association of the Lord; they have no more attraction for temporary so-called happiness. That is the position of one who is yoga-yukta
- The different rasas are also divided into two kinds of ecstasy, called yoga and viyoga, or meeting and separation. In friendship and parenthood, the feelings of meeting and separation are various
- The divisions of yoga and viyoga are always existing in the five mellows. However, in the transcendental mellows of friendship and parental affection, there are many varieties of yoga and viyoga

- The greatest common understanding for all yogis is complete detachment from matter, which can be achieved by different kinds of yoga
- The highest perfection of life is to attain His (God's) association, and nothing else. The bhakti-yogi, being completely engaged in the Lord's service, has no attraction for any other process of liberation like jnana or yoga

- To practice yoga, one should go to a secluded place and should lay kusa grass on the ground and then cover it with a deerskin and a soft cloth. The seat should neither be too high nor too low and should be situated in a sacred place

- What is called renunciation is the same as yoga, or linking oneself with the Supreme, for no one can become a yogi unless he renounces the desire for sense gratification. BG 6.2 - 1972

- Yoga is practiced in eight different stages: yama, niyama, asana, pranayama, pratyahara, dharana, dhyana and samadhi
- Yoga is the happiness of the soul, and the individual soul can be happy when it is with the Supersoul, the Supreme Soul
- Yoga is the system for linking the soul in the service of the Lord. Only under superior guidance can one practice such yoga in his life without changing his social position
- Yoga ladder, it has been compared with a ladder. Just like steps in a big skyscraper house there are steps. So every step is a progress, that's a fact. So the whole stepladder may be called the yoga system
- Yoga means concentration of the mind detached from all other subject matter. And actually such concentration is samadhi, or cent percent engagement in the service of the Lord (Krsna)
- Yoga necessitates controlling the senses, and bhakti-yoga, or Krsna consciousness, is the process of purifying the senses. When the senses are purified, they are automatically controlled
- Yoga necessitates meditation on the transcendental pastimes of the Lord, whether He is standing, moving, lying down, etc
- Yoga practice can be successfully performed by persons who have a very long duration of life, such as one hundred thousand years; in that way it is possible to have perfection in yoga. Otherwise, there is no possibility of attaining the real perfection
- Yoga siddhis, they are simply material arts. Just like one example is given, that anima siddhi, anima siddhi means to enter into the stone. So we see in the Western countries they are boring big, big hills and entering in the stone
- Yoga, when you are in contact with Krsna, that is the secret of success in this material world, working. Otherwise whatever you are doing, whatever you are working, it will produce some reaction and you will have to enjoy or suffer
- Yoga-randhita-karmanah. As long as one is covered by material nature's modes of ignorance and passion, there is no possibility of understanding the Supreme Lord
- Yoga-siddhi means you can become smaller than the smallest. Our actually magnitude is very, very small. So by yoga-siddi, in spite of having this material body, one yogi can come to the smallest size, and anywhere you keep him packed, he will come out
- Yogam yunjan mad-asrayah, asamsayam samagram mam, yatha jnasyasi tac chrnu. This is a verse from Bhagavad-gita, how to develop Krsna consciousness, or God consciousness
- Yogena means "by controlling the senses and mind." Yoga indriya-samyamah. Yogena implies that one is seriously absorbed in the self and is able, by development of knowledge, to understand his constitutional position in relationship with the Superself
- Yogic exercise means to control the mind, dhyanavasthita-tad-gatena manasa (SB 12.13.1). In order to make the mind controlled and fully fixed up on the Supreme Personality of Godhead, that is required in yoga meditation
- Yogis or demigod worshipers are subjected to the chance of taking birth again when there is again creation
- Yogis try to control their senses and thus become happy, but a Krsna conscious person neglects the methods of yoga. He is unconcerned with the greatest of enemies, the senses, which are compared to snakes
- Yogo nastah parantapa. As soon as we deviate from the original system, it is nasta, spoiled. So what is the use of giving things which is already spoiled? But it cannot be spoiled if you follow the parampara system. This is the secret of success
- You bring any so-called followers of yoga society student and try to compare with any one of our student, you'll find he is far, far advanced. We challenge
- You can keep good friendship with different yoga teachers, but practically our mode of Krishna Consciousness is different from theirs. Perhaps these people may not like our Sankirtana movement, so you have to be very careful in their association
- You have to get out from this entanglement by this yoga, or perfect yoga of Krsna consciousness
- You may send to ISKCON Press for any small literatures which are available, such as "Easy Journey" and "Topmost Yoga." I am told that ISKCON Press has recently printed a large stock of these two books
