- A brahmana may renounce his family and accept sannyasa. Others - ksatriyas and vaisyas - may also give up their families and take to Krsna consciousness. Such renunciation is called karma-tyaga. By such renunciation, the SP of Godhead is satisfied
- A devotee is free from the reactions of his karma because he has taken to devotional service

- If I advance, my friend becomes envious. So karma-marga is the path of enviousness. Therefore Srimad-Bhagavata says paramo nirmatsaranam (SB 1.1.2). The Bhagavata is meant for persons who are absolutely free from enviousness

- It is here (SB 4.29.57) stated that such people become bewildered (rsayo 'pi hi muhyanti). To save oneself from the hands of these karma jada-smartas, one should strictly follow the instructions of the Supreme Personality of Godhead
- It is most sinful to kill cows and insult brahmanas and Vaisnavas. The karma incurred by such activity is very great, but one can immediately nullify all this karma by surrendering to Lord Krsna and chanting His holy name
- It is said kovida: one must be intelligent to select, "What is my next life? How I can get out of?" That is the whole instruction of the Vedas, how we can get out of these clutches of karma-bandhana, the knot of karma, one after another

- Of these three types of action (karma, akarma and vikarma), that which frees one from the bondage to karma is preferred by intelligent men
- On the karma platform the mercantile man who wants more and more money becomes increasingly bound and entangled, the devotee becomes increasingly liberated
- On the other hand, those who are not devotees but are engaged in uncertain processes of self-realization, such as jnana, yoga and karma, are understood to be still contaminated
- Once surrendered to Krishna, karmic reaction is immediately gone, but if he acts again independently, then he is again in the clutches of maya
- One can serve Krsna by his activities, karmana; by mind, by thinking, by planning how to do it nicely. Mind is also required. karmana manasa vaca. And by words. How? Preaching
- One cannot be happy by simply executing pious or impious activities. Such activities simply cause entanglement and transmigration from one body to another. Narottama dasa Thakura calls this karma-bandha-phansa

- Others were those who had been freed of the reactions to fruitive activities by transcendental knowledge awakened by practice of yoga. And still others were those who had attained residence in Brahmaloka not by ordinary karma but by advanced VK
- Out of millions of karma-nisthas there may be one who is wise. Those who try to avoid fruitive activity and who become silent in order to merge into the spiritual existence of the Absolute Truth are generally known as jnanis, wise men

- Pasandas, or atheists, cannot understand the pastimes of the Supreme Lord or transcendental loving service to the Lord. They think that devotional service is no better than ordinary fruitive activities - karma
- People are actually confused as to what is work (karma) and what is not work (akarma). Krsna here indicates that even great scholars (kavayah) are bewildered about the nature of work
- People are becoming inclined to karma-sukha(?). So it is a very difficult position to convince them that this is not needed. The real life is to become Krsna conscious, and for that purpose one should undergo austerities
- People should be trained, as Krsna said in the beginning, that catur-varnyam maya srstam guna-karma-vibhagasah (BG 4.13). The four classes of men, according to quality, they should be engaged in different types of occupation, guna-karma
- Process is that "By my karma I have become sinful. Now I have got the remedial measure, chanting of Hare Krsna, but I shall not commit again." Then he's successful
- Prsadhra, because of his karma, was cursed to take his next birth as a sudra, but because he took to saintly life, specifically concentrating his mind always upon the Supreme Personality of Godhead, he became a pure devotee
- Pure bhakti does not depend on karma, jnana or yoga, for it simply consists of loving affairs
- Pure bhakti-yoga is independent of such karma and jnana because it alone can not only endow one with liberation from conditional life but also award one the transcendental loving service of the Lord

- So you are appointed, you are put into an apartment, or hotel, according to the terms of your payment. That is karma. So you cannot say everything is also equal. That is nonsense
- Some followers of Vedic principles offer everything to the Absolute Truth and do not aspire to enjoy the results of their pious actions. These are also considered among the karma-nisthas
- Some of the gopis who joined Krsna's pastimes within this material world were coming from the status of ordinary human beings. If they had been bound by fruitive action, they were fully freed from the reaction of karma by constant meditation on Krsna
- Somebody is saying that in the Bhagavad-gita there is karma only recommended. Somebody says jnana. Somebody says yoga. Somebody says bhakti. But actually Bhagavad-gita is meant for bhaktas
- Sometimes in the heart of a neophyte there is attraction for karma, jnana or yoga. When he is free and transcendental to mixed devotional activity, he becomes a second-class devotee
- Sometimes it is argued that karma and jnana require a mixture of bhakti in order to be successfully executed, and sometimes it is argued that bhakti also requires karma and jnana for its successful termination
- Sometimes we see pious men earn money with great hardship and then spend the money for some pious cause by opening public charities, schools and hospitals. Whether one earns money for himself or for the public benefit, he is called a karma-nistha
- Sometimes, because we give stress directly to accept this devotional service, people are not very happy that we do not give any importance to the process of jnana and karma and yoga. We do not condemn, but they're very difficult
- Sri Krsna specifically states: guna-karma-vibhagasah: men are classified according to the guna or the mode under which they are operating, and this applies to men all over the universe
- Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura states that (in CC Madhya 19.147) the word karma-nistha refers to one who aspires to enjoy the results of his good work and pious activity
- Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura says in this connection that one who has developed Krsna consciousness and who exists in love with Krsna is no longer subject to suffering and happiness under the laws of karma. Indeed, he is beyond karma
- Starting from Lord Brahma to an ant, whoever accepted this material body, is suffering their karma. Karmic reaction is pious and impious activities. The reaction of pious activities is also one kind of suffering
- Such activities (that the interaction of fruitive activities can be counteracted by another karma, or fruitive activity) have been compared to an elephant's bathing
- Such ceremonies are known as karma, and there is no need for a devotee in the transcendental position to execute them. As the ideal king, however, it was King Prthu's duty to perform sacrifices. A compromise was therefore to be worked out
- Sukadeva Gosvami replied, "My dear king (Pariksit), the sinful activities must be atoned." There are three processes: karma, jnana, bhakti. So yoga is within the jnana. To improve our condition there are different processes. One is called karma
- Sukadeva Gosvami said that merely counteracting karma, fruitive activities, by other activities cannot bring one's miseries to a final end

- Take direction from Krsna and take direction from Krsna's representative and you do it; then there is no karma-bandhanah. Karmani nirdaheti kintu ca bhakti-bhajam. Otherwise, we are bound up by the reaction of every act
- Temporary, material happiness holds no value for a devotee. The devotee is in such an exalted position that he is not interested in the actions of karma or jnana

- The jiva potency, or the ksetrajna-sakti of the Lord, has the tendency to be overpowered by the external potency, avidya-karma-samjna, and in this way he is placed in the awkward circumstances of material existence
- The karmis & the devotees are not on the same level. In whatever condition of life the karmi may be, he continues in the cycle of birth & death because the seed of karma, or fruitive activity, is there, & it fructifies whenever there is an opportunity

- The king, his duty was that if you are professing yourself as a brahmana, then it is the king's duty to see that you are acting as a brahmana. Brahmana is not by birth but guna-karma-vibhagasah (BG 4.13). Guna means quality. And karma, and work also
- The living entity forgets what to do. First of all he makes a determination to act in a certain way, and then he is entangled in the acts and reactions of his own karma. BG 1972 purports
- The living entity's higher or lower position, his suffering and enjoying, are due to his own karma. The exact word used in this connection is anisah, which means "dependent on their own karma"
- The Lord awards everyone different kinds of karma as the individual living entities desire; He is the Supersoul present within the heart of everyone, and He is so kind and liberal that He gives everyone full facilities to perform whatever acts one wants
- The Lord is so kind that even though disturbed, He fulfills the desires of such beggars. The pure devotee is anyabhilasita-sunya; he has no motive behind his worship. He is not conducted by the influence of maya in the form of karma or jnana
- The members of some religious sects, especially Christians, do not believe in the reactions of karma
- The path of karma is very intricate; therefore we should understand the distinctions between karma, akarma and vikarma
- The platform of jnana, speculative knowledge, is better than the platform of karma, fruitive action

- The yogis also at times take to chanting the Hare Krsna maha-mantra, but their purpose is different from that of the bhaktas. In all processes - karma, jnana or yoga - bhakti is required. That is the purport of this verse - SB 4.31.12
- There (in the Bhakti-sandarbha) are discussions of the process of karma-tyaga (the giving of the results of karma to the SP of Godhead), and the practices of mystic yoga and philosophical speculation, which are deprecated as simply hard labor
- There are karma, vikarma and akarma. So one should know. Vikarma means criminal activities

- To become honest is also good karma. How to become a good man is described in the Bhagavad-gita very elaborately (BG 16.5): So if you become qualified with the daivi sampad (transcendental qualities), then, vimoksaya - you will be liberated
- To become Krsna conscious means to jump over to the spiritual platform immediately. And this varnasrama-dharma, sannyasa, varna-tyaga, karma-tyaga, these are different steps only

- Understanding Krsna, is not so easy job. It is not so easy. But any person, either in karma-yoga or jnana-yoga or dhyana-yoga or hatha-yoga, if he comes in contact with a devotee, bhakti-yogi, then he can understand Krsna

- Vikarma is punishable. Karma you can do. You ripe (reap) your own fruit by working. You become big man, you become rich man, and you become poor man also, by your karma. If you cannot handle your business nicely, then you become poor man
- Vivekananda, he prescribed daridra-narayana-seva. The same thing - hospital. We kill all animals, and the hospital patient is given the meat for improvement of the health. But he does not know that this is not curing; he is become implicated in his karma

- We are so fool that we do not understand what is the real problem of life. We are simply busy in temporary problems. Real problem is that a living being is eternal, and by the laws of nature, by his karma, he has to change his body. That is real problem
- We can promote ourself in the heavenly planets and we can degrade ourself to the hellish planets also - both ways. Because as soon as we are engaged in karma, unknowingly or knowingly we commit some sinful activities. This is the position
- We take our birth because we are bound by our karma, but Krsna, being fully independent, does not come because of someone else's request or because of karma. Rather, He comes by His own free will - atma-mayaya
- What is that impersonal karma? Karma is always personal
- What is that? Urukramasya. Each word is meaningful. Urukrama. Uru means uncommon. Uru. Uru means great. And krama. Krama means activities. So who is Urukrama? Urukrama is Krsna, God
- Whatever way of spiritual realization we accept (karma, jnana, mystic yoga), the ultimate goal is Narayana, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. The living entities are eternally connected with Him via devotional service
- When Krsna or His incarnation come, they do not depend on karma for their bodies. The Supreme Lord is above karma and is fully independent. It is therefore said, atma-mayaya. The Supreme Lord comes by His own energy, not by the external energy or by force
- When one actually reaches the platform of frustration in an attempt to discharge karma-bandha-phansa, he inquires about the real value of life, which is called brahma jijnasa
- When one becomes a pure devotee, free from material desires and from bondage to karma, jnana and yoga, one is freed from material actions and reactions by the causeless mercy of Krsna
- When one cultivates knowledge for this purpose, he is considered to be on a higher platform than one who is engaged in karma-yajna, or fruitive activities

- Yajna means Visnu, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. In Bhagavad-gita, karma is described as yajnartha. Yajnartha-karma means "work done only for the satisfaction of Visnu"
- Yajnartha karma, or the necessity of work for the satisfaction of Krsna only, is more expressly stated in this verse (BG 3.15). BG 1972 purports
- Yajnartha-karma: such activities (sacrifices) should be carried out for the Supreme Lord's pleasure
- Yajnarthat karmano 'nyatra loko 'yam karma-bandhanah: - Work done as a sacrifice for Visnu has to be performed, otherwise work binds one to this material world. Karma-bandhanah refers to the repeated acceptance of one material body after another
- Yas tv indragopam athavendram aho sva-karma (Bs. 5.54). From Lord Indra to indragopa, an insignificant insect, everyone is reaping the consequences of his karma. We are creating our own karma, our next body, in this life
- You don't require any education for this karma. They are making big, big plans to educate people how to work hard. This is waste of time. Educational institution should be for teaching people how to become Krsna conscious, not to become this or that
- You have to remain where you are placed by your karma. You cannot move. I cannot move beyond this body. Therefore our senses are all imperfect. We think that, "I have got my legs; I can walk very fast." No. You cannot go fast as it is destined by you
- You may be a brahmana, you may be a ksatriya, you may be a sudra. It doesn't matter. If you act according to the order of Krsna, by the order of Krsna, then your karma will not entangle you. Because or you are doing according to the order of Krsna
- You should understand that a devotee is never under any karmic reaction. Whatever is happening is the mercy of Krishna. That should be the view point of the devotee
