- Kasyapa Muni continued: What is this material body, made of five elements? It is different from the spirit soul. Indeed, the spirit soul is completely different from the material elements from which the body is made
- King Nrga said, "However, those who live in the spiritual kingdom, the Vaikunthalokas, have bodies not made of material elements"
- Krsna is always Krsna, but because we cannot see anything beyond material elements like wood, stone, and metal, He appears in a form made of these elements. But He is neither wood, metal, nor stone
- Krsna is the source of both life and matter. There are two energies. One is superior energy; another, it is inferior energy. The material elements, they are inferior energy, and the superior energy - jiva-bhutam maha-baho

- Life is not, however, a product of two secretions, but is independent of all material elements. As fully described in Bhagavad-gita, the living entity is not subject to any material reactions
- Living entities are compared to the sparks of fire. As stated in the previous verse (SB 3.28.40) fire, flame, smoke and firewood are combined together. Here the living entity, material elements and the Supreme Personality of Godhead are combined together
- Living entities have different material bodies composed of earth, water, air, fire and ether. The words tara madhye mean - within this universe. The entire material universe is composed of five material elements

- Narada Muni said, "You (Krsna) are the supreme controller within their hearts. You are self-sufficient; before the creation, You existed, and by Your energy You have created all the material elements"
- No material scientific advancement can produce life. The living force comes from the spiritual world and has nothing to do with the interaction of the material elements

- O Lord in the form of Nrsimhadeva, You know how this demon gave trouble to everyone, but now You have killed him, and his body is mixing with the five material elements
- O soul of everyone, You are the creator of this cosmic manifestation and all the material elements. I surrender unto You in Your transcendental form
- One has to perceive happiness by the supersenses. The supersenses are not the senses of the material elements

- Such scientists (who want to create life by a combination of chemicals regard the external, material elements as supreme) do not like the idea that life is part and parcel of the Supreme Lord

- That body contained everything within the universe, including all the gross material elements, the senses, the sense objects, the mind, intelligence and false ego, the various kinds of living entities, and the actions

- The earth (mahi) contains all our requirements. Thus the objects of sense perception are all present in bhumi, or the earth. The gross material elements and subtle elements (mind, intelligence and ahankara, false ego) constitute the total material energy
- The earth, water, fire, air and ether of Vaikuntha are all spiritual. Material elements are not found there
- The entire material world is a display of sixteen diversities and eight material elements. The analytical studies of the material world are the subject matter of Sankhya philosophy

- The living entity tries to lord it over the material or physical elements, but both the physical elements and the spiritual spark are energies emanating from the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Therefore He says, aham vai sarva-bhutani: "I am everything"
- The living entity, however, is different from all these material elements
- The Lord in His different features (Vasudeva, Aniruddha, Pradyumna and Sankarsana) maintains both the gross and subtle material elements of this world
- The Lord is the supreme controller of the material elements, and being endless and beginningless, He exists in all times - past, present, and future. And because He is absolute, He has nothing to do with vice and virtue
- The Lord's eight separated material energies, the three modes of material nature & the sixteen transformations (the eleven senses & the five gross material elements like earth and water) - within all these, the one spiritual soul exists as the observer
- The Lord's spiritual effulgence, is covered by the mahat-tattva, the material elements; therefore in this material world we require the assistance of sun, moon, electricity, etc., for light. But in the spiritual world there is no need of such things
- The material body certainly consists only of material elements, but when one awakens to Krsna conscious understanding, the body is no longer material but spiritual

- This is specifically described in the Mahabharata (Adi-parva 114). He (Vidura) indirectly hinted, A weapon not made of steel or any other material element can be more than sharp to kill an enemy, and he who knows this is never killed

- Those who undergo severe austerities and penances not recommended in the scriptures, performing them out of pride and egoism, who are impelled by lust and attachment, who are foolish and who torture the material elements of the body are known to be demons
- Time, nature, prakrti (as cause and effect), the mind, the material elements, false ego, the modes of nature, the senses, the universal form, complete independence and the moving and nonmoving beings appear subsequently as His opulences
- To an ordinary person the Deity will appear to be made of stone, wood or some other material. In the higher sense, since all material elements ultimately emanate from the supreme spiritual entity, nothing is really material

- We are all Brahman, spirit soul, but somehow or other we have come in contact with these material elements (bhumir apo 'nalo vayuh (BG 7.4)), and we have acquired bodily coverings. Consequently we think, "I am this body." This is ignorance
- We are Brahman, but because we are not Para-brahman, or Supreme Brahman, we are subjected, we are prone to be covered by these material qualities. Therefore our business is again to recover ourself from these twenty-five elements, material elements
- We are entangled with the network of this fabrication of material elements. Very difficult position. Just like the fish caught up in the net of the fisherman, or maya, similarly, we are now caught up within the network created by the material nature
- We are entangled, and we are desiring, and nature is giving us facility to enjoy our desires. This is the material world. So unless we are free from all kinds of desires, we shall be entangled with these elements
- We are worshiping Krsna, but because we cannot see anything except material elements like stone, Krsna kindly appears in a form carved from stone
- We can argue, a good argument, logic, that you won’t find life by combination of these material elements. That is not possible. Therefore a sane man must consider that life does not belong to these eight elements. This is dead matter. There is no life
- We should not expect milk from the fleshy bags on the neck of a goat, although they look like breastly nipples. Similarly, we should not expect any creative power from the material ingredients; we must believe in the power of the purusa
- When a living entity attains spiritual perfection, he also attains the same type of body, known as sac-cid-ananda-vigraha (BS 5.1). This spiritual body never mixes with the material elements
- When all the material designations have thus merged into their respective material elements, the living beings, who are all ultimately completely spiritual, being one in quality with the Supreme Being, should cease from material existence
- When I am not covered by the material elements, sarvopadhi-vinirmuktam tat-paratvena nirmalam (CC Madhya 19.170), then I can go everywhere, automatically. Just like Narada Muni goes everywhere. He has no impediment

- When Svayambhuva Manu saw that Dhruva Maharaja understood the philosophy of Vaisnavism and yet was still dissatisfied because of his brother's death, he gave him an explanation of how this material body is created by the five elements of material nature
- When the living entity and his companions leave, the body no longer works but turns into basic material elements - earth, water, fire, air and ether

- When the present body turns to dust and is again reduced to five elements - the proprietor of the body, the living being, automatically receives another body of material elements according to his fruitive activities - SB 10.1.39
- When the seven properties of material nature (the total material energy, the ego and the five objects of sense gratification) are in proper order, the living entity within the material elements is happy. Without these seven elements one cannot exist
- When the spiritual spark, which is described as one ten-thousandth part of the tip of a hair, is forced into material existence, that spark is covered by gross and subtle material elements
- When the total material elements are manifested by the interaction of the three modes of material nature, the manifestation is called prakrti
- When this consciousness is misguided and one is put into the material atmosphere, which pollutes the original consciousness, one thinks that he is a product of the material elements
- With the material elements, the working senses and the knowledge-gathering senses we create a very nice car, and when the car is accidentally smashed in a collision, the mind suffers, and through the mind the living entity suffers
- Within the covering of the material elements are the spiritual senses
- Working with the five material elements (panca-bhutas), as well as with our five knowledge-gathering senses like the eyes, ears and tongue and our five active senses like the hands and legs, we become involved in the material condition
