- This verse (of CC Adi-lila 12.9) describes the beginning of a schism. When disciples do not stick to the principle of accepting the order of their spiritual master, immediately there are two opinions
- Those neophyte devotees who are actually initiated by the bona fide spiritual master and are seriously engaged in carrying out the orders of the spiritual master should be offered respectful obeisances
- Those who are fixed up in the words of guru, so - Guru has ordered me to do it. Oh, that is my life. I do not know whether I will be promoted to heaven or hell. It doesn't matter. I shall execute
- To become disciple means no more argument. When we talk friendly there is argument, counterargument. But when there is order from guru there is no more argument
- To become disciple means to surrender, voluntarily accepting the instruction, the advice, the order of the spiritual master
- To engage oneself in devotional service under the order of the spiritual master and the sastra is the way to remain on the transcendental platform
- To pacify King Indra, Brhaspati assured him that the time would certainly come, for Brhaspati could see that in the future Bali Maharaja would defy the orders of Sukracarya in order to pacify Lord Visnu, Vamanadeva
- To serve the lotus feet of the Lord means to serve Him exactly as He desires. The neophyte devotee is therefore ordered to worship the Lord strictly according to the regulative principles given by the spiritual master and the sastras

- Vidhi-marga is called bhakti-yoga. Vidhi-marga means by following the regulative principles of sastra, orders of the spiritual master, when we engage ourself in devotional service, that is called vidhi-marga
- Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura explains, "My only concern is to see whether I am factually, faithfully carrying out the order of my guru"
- Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura has stated that the order of the spiritual master is the life and soul of the disciples

- We are simply trying to execute the orders of our spiritual master to the best of our ability
- We can go on arguing for days together, but there is no decision. That is friendly talk. But when there is talk between a master and disciple, there is no question of arguing. The disciple has to accept what is ordered by the master
- We have to carry out simply Krsna's order or His representative's order. Then it is all good. Either killing or not killing, it doesn't matter because it is coming directly from the Supreme. And that is spiritual
- We have to stick to the principles stated in the Bhagavad-gita. Vyavasayatmika buddhih: every man's duty is to receive orders from Lord Krsna or from His bona fide representative and take these orders as his life and soul, without personal considerations
- Whatever guru says, one who accepts, he becomes disciple. He . . . "I don't care for my guru's order, and still I am disciple," that is not accepting guru
- When Bhisma refused to marry Amba, who wanted him to become her husband, Amba met Parasurama & by her request only, he asked Bhismadeva to accept her as his wife. Bhisma refused to obey his order, although he was one of the spiritual masters of Bhismadeva
- When both of you (Devaki and Vasudeva, who were Prsni and Sutapa in their previous life) were ordered by Lord Brahma to create progeny, you first underwent severe austerities by controlling your senses - SB 10.3.33

- When the spiritual master orders, the grhastha may accept sex life. This is confirmed in Bhagavad-gita (BG 7.11): indulgence in sex life without disobedience to the religious rules and regulations constitutes a religious principle
- When there is no attachment or no spontaneous loving service to the Lord, one is engaged in the Lord's service simply out of obedience to the spiritual master's order or in pursuance of the scriptures, such obligatory service is called vaidhi-bhakti
- When you follow without consideration of whether it (the order of the spiritual master and the order of the sastra, or scripture) is convenient or inconvenient, simply because it must be done, that is called tapasya
- Without being empowered by Krsna nobody can preach the glories of His Holy Name and the only means for acquiring this spiritual strength is to abide by the orders of the Spiritual Master. That is the verdict of all Scriptures
- Without the spiritual master's order, even the grhastha should not indulge in sex life

- You do not study all these things. You become initiated . . . there are ten kinds of offenses. Do you have any regard for these things or not? You must avoid these ten kinds of offenses. The first offense is to disobey the orders of guru
- You have no mind to follow austerities, but when you accept a spiritual master, you have to carry out his order. That is austerity
- You have to carry out his orders, that's all. God's representative is the guru. He asks you to do this, to do that - if you do that, that is pleasing
- You haven't got to follow blindly. Spiritual master will not place before you anything unreasonable. But the process is that you cannot change the order of spiritual master. You cannot argue
