- The word sadhv-alankrta used in this verse (SB 4.26.12) indicates that one must be absorbed in knowledge gathered from the instructions of saintly persons
- The work of unseen destiny cannot be ascertained by practical experimental knowledge, and therefore one must be satisfied by reasoning that everything is done by supreme providence
- There are different grades of Vaisnavas (kanistha-adhikari, madhyama-adhikari and uttama-adhikari), but to be a madhyama-adhikari preacher one must be a learned scholar in the Vedanta-sutra and other Vedic literatures

- This ability is also awarded by God according to one's willingness to render service unto God. One must be voluntarily willing to render service unto the Lord, and He will empower the doer in proportion to his surrender unto the lotus feet of the Lord
- This devotional service has to be performed strongly in perfect knowledge and with transcendental vision. One must be strongly renounced and must engage in austerity and perform mystic yoga in order to be firmly fixed in self-absorption
- This Society is attempting to create a society of devotees all over the world, without any discrimination of caste, creed, color. One must be a devotee of Krsna
- Those who are trying to be idle krsna-bhaktas, they are not devotees. One must be engaged with Krsna's work. That is devotion. Satatam kirtayanto mam yatantas ca drdha-vratah - BG 9.14
- To achieve this stage of life (detachment from material illusion) one must be firmly convinced about spiritual existence and its permanent effects
- To attain liberation, one must be completely purified of perverted forms of desire. A living being cannot snuff out desires, and to practice artificially erasing the actions of desire is more dangerous than the active desires themselves
- To be an unalloyed devotee, one must be freed from all material desires and untouched by fruitive activity and speculative knowledge
- To be convinced firmly with all reasons and argument, firmly conviction, this is called faith. Faith is not flickering. One must be firmly convinced. So then you immediately become joyful
- To become a devotee of the Lord, one must be completely cleansed of all material attachment. This qualification is called vairagya
- To make a show of devotional service will not help one. One must be a pure devotee following the devotional process; then one can convert others to devotional service
- To return home, back to Godhead, one must be completely free from material attachment. Therefore, bhakti-yoga means vairagya-vidya, the art that can help one develop a distaste for material enjoyment
- To take advantage of the methods of atonement, one must be at least somewhat devoted; otherwise there is no chance of one's being purified
- To understand the science of God, it does not depend on the Western culture or Eastern culture. One must be serious to understand. Then it is equally available
- Tyagat means one must be disgusted with this material way of life. That is tyaga. But they are being educated to be more attached to this material world

- Unalloyed devotion to the service of the Lord is the only spiritual desire. To fulfill this spiritual desire, however, one must be free from all material desires
- Under the direction of a bona fide spiritual master, one becomes gradually purified. Therefore, one must be in the chain of disciplic succession and learn the spiritual art of submissive hearing

- We have to very carefully study Krsna. The Krsna consciousness movement means to understand Krsna very scientifically. It is not sentiment. One must be very philosophically advanced with scientific knowledge, jnanam vijnanam. This is vijnana
- When a man becomes a mendicant willfully or by circumstances, he must be of firm faith and conviction that the Supreme Lord is the maintainer of all living beings everywhere in the universe
- When first-class devotional service develops, one must be devoid of all material desires, knowledge obtained by monistic philosophy, and fruitive action. The devotee must constantly serve Krsna favorably, as Krsna desires
- When human life is there, at least one must be awakened to this consciousness that, "Actually I am not happy." That is the beginning of human life, not to remain in darkness like cats and dog
- When Lord Caitanya declares trnad api su-nicena taror iva sahisnuna, He indicates that one must be above the material conception of life
- While executing devotional service, one must be naturally inclined to serve Krsna in one of these transcendental relationships (santa-rasa, dasya-rasa and sakhya-rasa, etc). That is the actual success of life
- Without coming to the stage of para-bhakti, one cannot understand Krsna. So that para-bhakti means one must be freed from all sinful activities. Yesam anta-gatam papam. Not ordinary man
