- A vairagi (a person in the renounced order) should not depend on others. If he does so, he will be unsuccessful, and he will be neglected by Krsna
- After many births and deaths, when one realizes that vasudevah sarvam iti (BG 7.19) - Vasudeva is all - he surrenders unto Krsna. This is real knowledge - jnana and vairagya, knowledge and detachment from material things

- Bhakti, or devotional service, is characterized by vairagya and jnana. Jnana refers to understanding that one is not his body, and vairagya means disinterest in sense gratification
- Bhakti-yoga begins when jnana and vairagya are complete. Jnana is knowledge, and vairagya is detachment from matter and engagement of the mind in spirit. Both of these are automatically attained when we engage in devotional service to Krsna

- The Krsna consciousness movement is progressing successfully in the Western countries at the present moment because the youth in the West have reached the stage of vairagya, or renunciation. They are practically disgusted with material pleasure
- The Lord's instructions in the form of Bhagavad-gita are full of jnana and vairagya, knowledge and renunciation
- The qualification of bhakti, or devotional service to the Lord, is that the devotee should be free from all material contaminations and desires. This freedom is called vairagya, or renouncement of material desires

- Vairagya is to be practiced, but bhakti is so strong, kecit kevalaya bhaktya, simply by bhakti, vasudeva-parayana. Vairagya immediately comes
- Vairagya means if you are not interested in this material world, then your real interest is spiritual life; that makes your life successful
- Vairagya means no more working for sense gratification, that is vairagya. That is renouncement. Only for working Krsna, for the satisfaction of Krsna, that is called vairagya. And to attain this vairagya, renouncement, one requires sufficient knowledge

- We don't follow this nonsense philosophy, unnecessary vairagya. Suska-vairagya, dry knowledge

- We should get up early in the morning and engage ourselves in the service of Krsna; then gradually we will forget the service of maya. Bhakti-yoga is so strong that if we engage in it, maya's service will automatically be negated. This is called vairagya
- When a real sannyasi or vairagi accepts something from householder, it is a great benefit for him. Therefore to accept little from this house, to accept little from that house, that is also another mercy of the renounced sannyasi or devotee of the Lord
