A
- A living entity has constitutionally mind, intelligence, and ego, but they are contaminated in contact with matter. At the present moment, our ego is working under some designation
- According to Buddha's philosophy, this consciousness is production by combination of this matter. This body is combination of matter: earth, water, fire, air, ether and, according to BG, further, mind, intelligence, ego
- After his body was destroyed, he doubtlessly carried his plans with him by means of the subtle body, composed of mind, intelligence and ego. Thus he would get another chance by the grace of the Supreme Lord, the Supersoul, who is always within the heart
- All material nature is divided into these eight elements (five gross elements: earth, water, fire, air and ether and three subtle elements: mind, intelligence and false ego) which together comprise the inferior nature, or energy, of the Lord
- All these eight elements (earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence and false ego), they are material. One section is gross, and another section is subtle. So the psychology means the subtle material elements. It is material; it is not spiritual
- Although all living entities are of one spiritual nature, in quality the same as the SPG, they have varieties of bodies due to the embodiment of the spirit soul by the eight material elements, namely earth, water, fire, air, sky, mind, intelligence & ego
- Although in conditional life the living entity is surrounded by material elements (earth, water, fire, air, sky, mind, intelligence and ego), he remains always aloof from them
- Although the eight gross and subtle material energies - namely, earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence and false ego - are stated to be bhinna, separate from the Lord, actually they are not
- Although the gross bodies apparently change, the real root of the gross body - the subtle body of mind, intelligence and ego - is always there
- Although the root of distress and happiness is the mind, intelligence and ego, a gross body is still required as an instrument for enjoyment. The gross body may change, but the subtle body continues to act
- An impious man who dies after sinful activities is sometimes condemned so that he cannot possess a gross material body of five material elements, but must live in a subtle body of mind, intelligence and ego
- An important word in this verse is mukta-lingah. Mukta means "liberated," and linga means "the subtle body." When a man dies, he quits the gross body, but the subtle body of mind, intelligence and ego carries him to a new body
- Another name for this inferior nature is maya, or illusion. Beyond these 8 inferior elements (5 gross elements: earth, water, fire, air and ether and 3 subtle elements: mind, intelligence and ego) there is a superior energy, which is called para-prakrti
- As described by the Lord Himself in Bhagavad-gita (BG 7.4-5): Earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence and false ego - all together these eight comprise My separated material energies
- As explained in the Bhagavad-gita, the separated material energy of the Personality of Godhead is covered by eight kinds of material coverings: earth, water, fire, air, sky, mind, intelligence and false ego
- As long as the spirit soul is covered by the subtle body, consisting of the mind, intelligence and false ego, he is bound to the results of his fruitive activities
- As Lord Krsna states in the Bhagavad-gita (BG 7.4): Earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence and false ego - all together these eight constitute My separated material energies
- As stated by the Lord Himself in Bhagavad-gita (BG 7.4): "Earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence and false ego - all together these eight comprise My separated material energies"
- As stated in Bhagavad-gita (BG 2.20), the living entity is never created (na jayate mriyate va kadacin). There are five gross material elements and three minor material elements (mind, intelligence and ego), and there are eternal living entities
- As the Lord explains in Bhagavad-gita (BG 7.4-5): Earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence and false ego - all together these eight comprise My separated material energies
- At death the process of changing bodies takes place due to the subtle body; the mind, intelligence and ego carry the soul from one gross body to another. This is called transmigration of the soul
- At the present moment we are covered by two kinds of dresses - the subtle dress: mind, intelligence and ego; and the gross covering. Subtle means we know there is this thing, but we cannot see it
- At the time of annihilation, the five gross elements - earth, water, fire, air & ether - enter into the mind, intelligence and false ego (ahankara), & the entire cosmic manifestation enters into the spiritual energy of the Supreme Personality of Godhead
- At the time of death, according to his mental condition, the living being is carried by the subtle body, consisting of mind, intelligence and ego, to another gross body
- At the time of death, our consciousness carries us into another body. There are the mind, the intelligence and the ego, which constitute the subtle body, and there is also the spirit soul, which is even more subtle
- At the time of death, the condition of your mind will transfer you with mind, intelligence, subtle body. They are seeing that this gross body's finished, but they cannot see that there is another body which is made of mind, intelligence and ego
- At the time of death, we have got some bhavam, some situation. So that is situation in the mind, intelligence. Because this gross body, at that time, stops working, but the mind, intelligence, ego, works
B
- Bhagavad-gita (7.4-5) clearly states that earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence and false ego are the eight elementary energies of the Supreme Lord and are of inferior quality, whereas the living entity is of superior quality
- Bhumir apo 'nalo vayuh, this material body is composition of five gross elements: earth, water, air, fire and ether. So mind, intelligence, ego, that is apara, inferior energy
- Body is the material - earth, water, air, fire and ether, mind, intelligence, ego. They are also emanating from Krsna
- By bhakti-yoga we can directly transcend both the subtle body (mind, intelligence and ego) and the gross material body. Then we can be situated on the spiritual platform in our original, spiritual body
C
- Caitanya Mahaprabhu quoted from the Seventh Chapter of Bhagavad-gita in which it is stated that earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence and ego all combine together to form the inferior energy of the Supreme Lord
- Combination of earth, water, air, fire, ether, mind, intelligence, ego - eight material elements, five gross and three subtle. This body is made of that. So the Buddha philosophy is that you dismantle this body, nirvana
D
- Death means to leave this body and carried by the subtle body to another gross body. That is called death. We are carried by the mind, intelligence and ego, subtle body. Just like we can experience a good scent of rose flower is carried by the air
- Devotional service begins when the mind, intelligence & ego are completely purified. Mayavadi sannyasis do not purify their intelligence, mind & ego, and consequently they cannot engage in the service of the Lord or expect the causeless mercy of the Lord
- Due to being conditioned by the external energy, the conditioned soul within this material world gets two kinds of bodies - a gross material body and a subtle material body composed of mind, intelligence and ego
- Due to the conditioned soul's eternal attitude of separation from Krsna, the spell of material energy awards him two kinds of bodily existence - the gross body consisting of five elements, and the subtle body consisting of mind, intelligence and ego
E
- Earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence and false ego - all together these eight comprise My (Krsna's) separated material energies
- Earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence and false ego are My eightfold separated energies
- Earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence and false ego-altogether these eight comprise My separated material energies. BG 7.4 - 1972
- Even one is finished, this material body . . . sometimes they commit suicide out of frustration, that "This desire is not fulfilled. Let me commit suicide." No. That is ignorance. Desires continue in the subtle body - mind, intelligence and ego
- Even though I cannot see what is mind, what is intelligence, what is ego, but I can hear about it. Therefore perfect knowledge is acquired by hearing. So we accept knowledge, perfect knowledge, by hearing
- Every living entity is covered by a subtle and gross body. The subtle body is the covering of mind, ego, intelligence and consciousness
- Everything belongs to Krsna. What is the body? It is a combination of material elements - earth, water, fire, air, and the subtle, psychological elements mind, intelligence, and false ego
F
- Finer than the ether is the mind, and finer than the mind is intelligence, ego. And finer than the intelligence and ego is the soul. So how you can see soul? You cannot see even the material things, as soon it becomes finer. How you can see the soul?
- From the Seventh Chapter of the Bhagavad-gita we understand that the five gross elements - earth, water, fire, air and sky - plus the subtle elements - mind, intelligence and false ego - are the eight separated energies of the Supreme Lord
H
- Here (in SB 6.16.4) it is made clear that the living being enters a material body that is like a machine created by the five gross elements of material nature (earth, water, fire, air and sky) and the three subtle elements - mind, intelligence and ego
- His (the living entity's) gross body is made up of five elements, his subtle body is made of mind, intelligence, false ego and contaminated consciousness, and he has five active senses and five knowledge-acquiring senses. In this way he merges in matter
I
- I have (Prabhupada) already explained. Mind, intelligence & ego - this is subtle body. Everyone has got his mind, everyone knows. But we cannot see. The intelligence... Everyone has got intelligence, but we cannot see. Similarly, subtle body is invisible
- If one wants to go to the higher material planets, he can keep his finer dress of mind, intelligence and ego, but has to leave his gross dress (body) made of earth, water, fire, etc
- If the soul is there, the gross matter, this material body, it grows, the mind acts, the intelligence acts, the ego acts, and as soon as the soul is out of this body, it does not act. It decomposes and again turns into gross matter. That's all
- In Bhagavad-gita (BG 7.4) it is clearly stated that earth, water, fire, air and ether are the five principal gross elements of the material world and that mind, intelligence and false ego are the three subtle elements
- In Bhagavad-gita (BG 7.4) the SPG clearly explains: This material world of three modes of nature-sattva-guna, rajo-guna & tamo-guna - is a composition of earth, water, fire, air, mind, intelligence & false ego, all of which are energies coming from Krsna
- In the Bhagavad-gita it is explained that the five elements earth, water, fire, air and ether constitute the gross energy of the Absolute Truth and that there are also three subtle energies, namely, the mind, intelligence and false ego
- In the Bhagavad-gita, Krsna says that these material elements - earth, water, air, fire, mind, intelligence, ego - they are bhinna me prakrti astadha (BG 7.4). Prakrti. He is purusa. Prakrti means female. So they are also all energy
- In the Seventh Chapter (of the Bhagavad-gita) it is stated that the five gross elements (earth, water, fire, air and sky) and the three subtle elements (mind, intelligence and ego) are all His (Krsna's) inferior energies
- It is clear in this (SB 4th canto chapter 28) verse that at the time of death thoughts of material enjoyment do not go away. This indicates that the living entity, the soul, is carried by the subtle body - mind, intelligence and ego
K
- Krsna claims, "All these eight elements (earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence, and false ego) are My separated energy." Then how are the body and mind ours? Although I claim that the body is mine, I do not even know how it is working
- Krsna explained in Bhagavad-gita (7.4-5): Earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence and false ego - all together these eight comprise My separated material energies
- Krsna says in Bhagavad-gita (BG 7.4): Earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence and false ego - all together these eight comprise My separated material energies
- Krsna says that these are the eight material elements: earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence and false ego. False ego means false identification
M
- Material science comprises these ten items (namely earth, water, fire, air, sky and the five sense objects) and nothing more. But the other three items, namely mind, intelligence and false ego, are neglected by the materialists. BG 1972 purports
- Material world means these five elements, gross and subtle. Earth, water, air, fire, sky, these are gross. And mind, intelligence, and ego, these are subtle
S
- Some of the nonsense philosophers, they are identifying the soul with the mind, with intelligence, with ego, but they are all material. The soul is different. So this is daivi prakrti, spiritual nature
- Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura comments that the word siddha-deha, "perfected spiritual body," refers to a body beyond the material gross body composed of five elements and the subtle astral body composed of mind, intelligence and false ego
- Still finer than the ether is the mind. And then intelligence. And then false ego, and then the soul. These are the different position
T
- The 7 layers of bark covering the tree (of the body) are skin, blood, muscle, fat, bone, marrow and semen, and the 8 branches of the tree are the 5 gross and 3 subtle elements - earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence & false ego - SB 10.2.27
- The acts of commission and omission made by them (the materialistic leaders) during their lifetime of leadership will remain in the psychic encagement of mind, intelligence, and false egoism in a very subtle form
- The conclusion is that the subtle body - mind, intelligence and ego - creates an atmosphere with desires and ambitions that the living entity enjoys in the subtle body
- The controller of the senses is the mind. And above the mind there is intelligence. And above the intelligence there is soul. So we cannot see even the mind, intelligence and ego. And how we can see the soul
- The cosmic manifestation consists of earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence, and false ego. These eight material elements are separated material energies, and we can understand that behind these energies there must be an energetic source
- The desires in the subtle body of mind, intelligence and ego cannot be fulfilled without a gross body composed of the material elements earth, water, air, fire and ether
- The earth (mahi) contains all our requirements. Thus the objects of sense perception are all present in bhumi, or the earth. The gross material elements and subtle elements (mind, intelligence and ahankara, false ego) constitute the total material energy
- The eight external energies are listed in Bhagavad-gita (BG 7.4): "Earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence and false ego - all together these eight comprise My (Krsna's) separated material energies"
- The eleven senses and five sense objects, and the eight elements are the gross and subtle matter, namely earth, water, fire, air, sky, mind, intelligence and ego. All these combined together are distributed throughout the entire universe
- The ether in the material world is considered to be the finest. Finer than the ether is mind, intelligence, and false ego. But all eight of the outward coverings are explained as outer coverings of the Absolute Truth
- The finer cover is desire - ego, intelligence, mind. And the gross cover is this body
- The finer dress of mind, intelligence and ego
- The first sixteen diversities are the eleven senses and five sense objects, and the eight elements are the gross and subtle matter, namely earth, water, fire, air, sky, mind, intelligence and ego
- The garments are the mind, intelligence and false ego. False ego means the misconception that I am matter, that I am a product of this material world. This misconception makes me localized
- The great sage Narada continued: The living entity acts in a gross body in this life. This body is forced to act by the subtle body, composed of mind, intelligence and ego. After the gross body is lost, the subtle body is still there to enjoy or suffer
- The gross body is composed of earth, water, fire, air and ether. The subtle body is composed of mind, intelligence and ego. Of the eight material elements, five are gross and three are subtle
- The gross body is made of earth, water, air, fire, and the subtle body is made of mind, intelligence and egotism. So we are within this. So nobody knows; there is no educational system, what is our real constitutional position
- The gross body is made of earth, water, fire, air, and ether, & the subtle body is made of mind, intelligence, & false ego. But the living being is transcendental to these eight elements, which are described in the BG as the inferior energy of God
- The gross body is made of the gross elements of matter, and the subtle body is made of mind, intelligence, ego and contaminated consciousness
- The gross material elements (earth, water, fire, air and ether) combine with the subtle material elements (mind, intelligence and false ego) to construct the bodies of this material world, and yet they are beyond these bodies as well
- The gross material elements are earth, water, fire, air and ether, and the subtle material elements are mind, intelligence and ego. All of them are controlled by the Supreme Personality of Godhead as Vasudeva, Sankarsana, Pradyumna and Aniruddha
- The inferior energy is matter manifested in different elements, namely earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence and false ego. BG 1972 purports
- The internal, subtle senses are experienced as having four aspects, in the shape of mind, intelligence, ego and contaminated consciousness. Distinctions between them can be made only by different functions, since they represent different characteristics
- The living entity has two kinds of body - the subtle body and the gross body. Actually he enjoys through the subtle body, which is composed of mind, intelligence and ego. The gross body is the instrumental outer covering
- The living entity is bound by the subtle body, consisting of the mind, intelligence and false ego. At the time of death, therefore, the position of the mind becomes the cause for the next body
- The living entity transmigrates from one body to another according to his different desires, which in the subtle form of intelligence, mind and false ego accompany him from body to body
- The living soul is not destroyed after the destruction of this body. Therefore he remains, and his finer dress, subtle dress, is there - mind, intelligence, and ego. So according to the composition of his mind, he develops another gross dress
- The living symptoms, represented by consciousness and conviction, are the manifestation of the subtle body-mind, ego and intelligence. These subtle elements are included within the field of activities. BG 1972 purports
- The living symptoms, represented by consciousness, and convictions are the manifestation of the subtle body - mind, ego and intelligence. These subtle elements are included within the field of activities
- The Lord explains in the Bhagavad-gita (BG 7.4): Earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence and false ego - all together these eight constitute My separated material energies
- The material body is composed of five gross elements - earth, water, fire, air and ether - and three subtle elements - mind, intelligence and ego
- The material elements (earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence and false ego) display the inferior energy of the Lord, and the living entities are His superior energy
- The material elements are described, the mind, intelligence and false ego. What's the . . . what is that mind, you know, that material mind? In other words, there's a spiritual mind and a material mind
- The material energy means these eight kinds of material elements. Bhumir apo 'nalo vayuh: earth, water, fire, air, sky, mind, intelligence, and ego. These are all material
- The material nature is explained as follows by Lord Krsna in the Bhagavad-gita (BG 7.4): Earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence and false ego - all together these eight constitute My separated material energies
- The mind, intelligence and false ego are always engaged in an attempt to dominate material nature. According to that subtle astral body, one attains a gross body to enjoy the objects of one's desires
- The Pancaratras state that the personality of jiva called Sankarsana has emerged from Vasudeva, the supreme cause of all causes, that Pradyumna, the mind, has come from Sankarsana, and that Aniruddha, the ego, has come from Pradyumna
- The seed is the spirit soul, and by material contact it is covered by finer body - intelligence, mind and ego. And according to the quality of that ego, we develop different kinds of this material gross body
- The sense perception is created from the five elements: earth, water, air, fire, and ether. And above that, there is still finer materials: mind, intelligence, ego. And then, behind that, the soul is there
- The soul is being carried by the mind, ego and intelligence. You cannot see it, but you have to understand by hearing from the authorities like Krsna
- The subtle body is made of intelligence, mind and ego. So when a soul does not get a gross body, he has to work with the subtle body. That is ghostly life. So ghostly life is not false
- The subtle body is made of mind, intelligence, false ego and contaminated consciousness, and the gross body is made of five elements - earth, water, fire, air and ether
- The subtle mental body, which is also material and composed of false ego and intelligence, likewise vanishes when the soul is liberated
- The Supreme Lord is the controller of the ten senses, the five material elements, the five sense objects, the mind, the intelligence, the false ego and the soul. Therefore He is addressed as panca-vimsa, the twenty-fifth element
- The word suksmaya is significant because within this gross material body there are subtle material bodies - namely mind, intelligence and ego
- Then at the time of death the mind, (when elevated to the spiritual platform) intelligence and ego will no longer be materially contaminated. The living entity is present, and the mind, intelligence and ego are also present
- There are two kinds of bodies: subtle body and gross body. Gross body is made of this earth, water, fire, air, sky; and subtle body is made of mind, intelligence and ego
- There are two natures. Just like you can understand, you are combination of two nature, the material nature and the spiritual nature. This gross body is material nature. It is made of earth, fire, water, air, ether, and mind, intelligence and ego
- There is ghosts: bhuta preta pisaca. Not only this life, demonic life, but after death also there are ghostly life. They do not get this gross body. They remain in the subtle body - mind, intelligence and ego
- They (8,400,000 different forms) are outward dress, the body, which is made of this five elements - earth, water, air, fire, gross five elements - and three subtle elements - mind, intelligence and ego. They are all living entities
- They (conditioned soul) are so blind that they cannot see anything beyond the jurisdiction of the subtle mind, intelligence or ego, but they are very much proud of their advancement in knowledge, science and material prosperity
- They (materialistic scientists) cannot see the mind, intelligence, or false ego, what to speak of the soul. Therefore they say, "The body is everything, and there is nothing more." Actually, however, that is not a fact
- This body is Krsna's. What is this body? Bhumir apo analo vayuh kham mano buddhir (BG 7.4). It is constituted of these things: earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence, ego. And Krsna says, bhinna me prakrti astadha: These are Mine, My things
- This body is made of earth, water, fire, air and ether. This is called gross external energy, and there is also a subtle external energy of mind, intelligence and false ego. And behind that, the soul is there
- Those who are very sinful & attached to their family, house, village or country do not receive a gross body made of material elements but remain in a subtle body, composed of mind, ego, intelligence. Those who live in such subtle bodies are called ghosts
W
- We are a composition of the external and internal energies of God. The gross external energy is this gross material body, and the subtle external energy is the mind, ego and intelligence
- We are covered by this gross body made up of earth, water, fire, air and ether, which is the gross external energy of God, or Krsna, and the mind, ego and intelligence, which are subtle. Thus we are covered
- We are suffering due to this material combination, and that is a fact. This body is composed of earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence and ego. The Buddhists and Mayavadis advocate the annihilation of the components
- We experience two energies - material energy and spiritual energy. We have some experience of the material energy (earth. water, air, fire, ether, mind, intelligence and ego) because in the material world everyone's body is composed of these elements
- We have to understand from authoritative literature. The subtle body is working, just like when you sleep your gross body is not working, but the subtle body, the mind, intelligence and ego, is working; therefore you dream
- When one is very sinful, he does not get the material body. He lives in the subtle body: mind, intelligence & ego. That is ghostly life. And they display. Because they have no body, one cannot see, but they display so many mischiefs. That is ghostly life
- When the body is finished, I am not finished. When the gross body comes to an end, I am still present within the subtle body of mind, intelligence, and false ego, and this subtle body carries me to another gross body
- When the gross body is lost, or when it dies, the root of the gross body - the mind, intelligence and ego - continues and brings about another gross body
- When the mind, intelligence and ego are purified, all the active senses of the living entity become spiritual. Thus the living entity attains his sac-cid-ananda form
- When we refer to the body, we include the external gross body with its various limbs, as well as the mind, intelligence and ego. In old age these all become weak when they are attacked by different diseases
- While living in this gross body, we have to educate our subtle body in such a way that it becomes spiritualized completely. The subtle body is mind, intelligence and ego
