J

- Nor is there (in that transcendental state of labdhopasanti) the mode of material goodness, nor passion, nor ignorance, nor even the false ego, nor the material Causal Ocean, nor the material nature

- Persons who indulge in unnecessary animal killing have excessively developed in the modes of passion and ignorance and have no hope of advancing to the mode of goodness; they are destined to be degraded to lower statuses of life
- Prakrti itself is constituted by three qualities: the mode of goodness, the mode of passion and the mode of ignorance. Above these modes there is eternal time. BG 1972 Introduction
R
- Real religious principles are enacted by the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Although fully situated in the mode of goodness, even the great rsis who occupy the topmost planets cannot ascertain the real religious principles
- Red is the representation of the mode of passion, white is the representation of the mode of goodness, and blue is the representation of the mode of ignorance

- Situated in the mode of goodness, we can understand, at least theoretically, what I am, what this world is, what God is, and what our interrelationship is. This is the mode of goodness
- So even the modes of goodness, that is also a cause of our bondage. Therefore we have to transcend even the quality of goodness. Even the quality of goodness we have to transcend. That transcendental position is Krsna consciousness
- So far we are concerned, we never recommend to worship any demigod either in goodness, passion or ignorance
- Some of them (different kinds of living creatures) are in the mode of goodness, some are in the mode of passion, and some are in the mode of ignorance

- Sometimes he is under the influence of the mode of ignorance, sometimes the mode of passion and sometimes the mode of goodness. The living entity thus gets different types of bodies under the modes of material nature
- Sometimes the mode of goodness defeats passion, and at other times the mode of ignorance defeats goodness and passion. In this way there is always competition for supremacy. BG 14.10 - 1972
- Sometimes the mode of passion becomes prominent, defeating the mode of goodness, O son of Bharata. BG 14.10 - 1972
- Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu has suggested: Regardless of whether one is in the mode of passion, ignorance or goodness, if one regularly hears Srimad-Bhagavatam from the self-realized soul, one is freed from the bondage of material involvement
- Sri Krsna states (BG 7.13): Deluded by the three modes (goodness, passion, and ignorance), the whole world does not know Me who am above them and inexhaustible

- That understanding by which one knows what ought to be done & what ought not to be done, what is to be feared & what is not to be feared, what is binding & what is liberating, that understanding is established in the mode of goodness. BG 18.30 - 1972
- That which in the beginning may be just like poison but at the end is just like nectar and which awakens one to self-realization is said to be happiness in the mode of goodness. BG 18.36-37 - 1972
- The actual aim of life is to go back to Godhead, but there are many hindrances created by the three modes of material nature - sometimes by a combination of rajo-guna & tamo-guna, the modes of passion and ignorance, and sometimes by the mode of goodness
- The advanced condition was considered to be in the mode of goodness. If there is no liberation for those in the mode of goodness, what of those who are entangled in the mode of passion? BG 1972 purports
- The balanced mode of nature is goodness. And to be completely freed from all material tinges is to become free from the mode of goodness also
- The best examples (of being conditioned by mode of goodness) are the scientist and philosopher: each is very proud of his knowledge, and because they generally improve their living conditions, they feel a sort of material happiness. BG 1972 purports

- The devotee, thus surpassing the gross and the subtle forms of coverings, enters the plane of egoism. And in that status he merges the material modes of nature (ignorance and passion) in this point of neutralization and thus reaches egoism in goodness
- The difficulty here is that when a living entity is situated in the mode of goodness, he becomes conditioned to feel that he is advanced in knowledge and is better than others. In this way he becomes conditioned. BG 1972 purports
- The external, material energy is represented by her three modes, namely goodness, passion and ignorance

- The flash of lightning is the only beam of hope that can lead one to the path of knowledge, and therefore it is compared to the mode of sattva, or goodness

- The mode of goodness, which is the clear, sober status of understanding the Personality of Godhead and which is generally called vasudeva, or consciousness, becomes manifest in the mahat-tattva
- The mode of ignorance is just the opposite of the mode of goodness. In the mode of goodness, by development of knowledge, one can understand what is what, but the mode of ignorance is just the opposite
- The mode of passion is mixed. It is in the middle, between the modes of goodness and ignorance. A person is not always pure, but even if he should be purely in the mode of passion, he will simply remain on this earth as a king or a rich man. BG 1972 pur
- The mode of sattva is a still higher stage of material quality, which actually helps one in realizing the Absolute Truth
