Acarya's business

Lectures

Nectar of Devotion Lectures

So Caitanya Mahāprabhu has given us... It is in the śāstra. Caitanya Mahāprabhu has pointed out... The ācārya's business... Everything is there in the śāstra. Ācārya does not invent anything
The Nectar of Devotion -- Vrndavana, November 5, 1972: So Caitanya Mahaprabhu has given us... It is in the sastra. Caitanya Mahaprabhu has pointed out... The acarya's business... Everything is there in the sastra. Acarya does not invent anything. That is not acarya. Acarya simply points out, "Here is the thing." Just like in the darkness of night we cannot see anything perfectly or cannot see anything, but the, when there is sunrise, the sunrise, effect of sunrise is that we can see things as they are. The things are not manufactured. There is already... The things are al... The houses, the town and the everything is there, but when there is sunrise we can see everything nicely. Similarly, acarya, or incarnation, they do not create anything. They simply give the light to see things as they are.

Sri Caitanya-caritamrta Lectures

This is the business of ācārya, to spread bhakti cult
Lecture on CC Adi-lila 1.13 -- Mayapur, April 6, 1975: This is the business of acarya, to spread bhakti cult. Acaryam mam vijaniyat navamanyeta karhicit [SB 11.17.27]. It is said by the Lord that "You should accept the acarya..." Acarya means one who transmits bhakti cult. Bhakti-samsanat, spreading, gosthyanandi. One who is not spreading -- he is cultivating Krsna consciousness for his personal benefit in a secluded place, sitting and chanting -- that is also nice, but he's not acarya. Acarya means he must spread. Gosthyanandi. Bhajananandi, gosthyanandi. So generally, gosthyanandi means one who wants to increase the number of devotees. He's called gosthyanandi. And one who is self-satisfied, that "Let me do my own duty," he is called bhajananandi. So my Guru Maharaja, Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura, he was gosthyanandi. He wanted to increase the number of devotees. And the more you increase the number of devotees, the more you become very much recognized by Krsna. It is Krsna's business. Krsna personally comes as He is, Krsna, to spread this bhakti cult.
It is ācārya's business to stop these nonsense activities
Lecture on CC Adi-lila 1.13 -- Mayapur, April 6, 1975: Prabhupada: Bingo. (laughter) Yes. So this is maya. And our declaration of war with maya -- no intoxication, no meat-eating, no bingo -- (laughter) these are our declaration of war. So we have to fight in that way because nobody can understand Krsna without being free from all sinful activities. These are sinful activities. Therefore it is acarya's business to stop these nonsense activities. Otherwise they'll not be able to understand, especially the meat-eaters. They cannot understand.

Conversations and Morning Walks

1977 Conversations and Morning Walks

That is the business of acarya, sampradaya-raksana, to save the sampradaya from falling down
Conversations and Morning Walks, January 22, 1977, Bhuvanesvara:

Ramesvara: It's clear that for the first time these scholars are understanding the difference between the Bhagavad-gita and the Mayavadi conception. It's clear that now you have saved them. Previous to this, all they knew about is this impersonal concept.

Prabhupada: That is the business of acarya, sampradaya-raksana, to save the sampradaya from falling down. Sampradaya. Sampradaya raksana.

Ramesvara: After centuries of rascaldom you are giving them the first clear choice.

Prabhupada: Yes. That was the desire of my Guru Maharaja. I am just trying.
