- Even accepting that there is no difference between the Supersoul and the individual soul, the individual soul is dependent on the Supersoul for being liberated from the illusion of material energy

- He (the Lord) is everywhere at every time and every condition, but because He is covered by the curtain of material energy, to an ordinary person there appears to be no God
- He amalgamated the mind with the senses and the senses with the sense objects, according to their respective positions, and he also amalgamated the material ego with the total material energy, mahat-tattva

- I am the reservoir of unlimited potency, and therefore I am known as unlimited or all-pervading. From My material energy the cosmic manifestation appeared within Me, and in this universal manifestation appeared the chief being, Lord Brahma
- I beg to offer my respectful obeisances unto You, who are the Supersoul, the superintendent of everything, and the witness of all that occurs. You are the Supreme Person, the origin of material nature and of the total material energy

- It is simply a question of the living entity's being attracted or not being attracted (to material nature). There is no question of his being forced to come into contact with material energy
- It is situated as the objective manifestation of the Lord under the influence of the same material energy of Visnu

- Lord Krsna says in Bhagavad-gita (7.14), mam eva ye prapadyante mayam etam taranti te: "Only those who surrender unto Me can overcome the influence of the material energy"
- Lord Siva explains that the material energy is never troublesome to the Supreme Lord

- Of course all energies are His, and He does not make distinctions between spiritual energy and material energy, but for the conditioned soul who is situated marginally between material energy and spiritual energy, there is a distinction
- On the other side of Brahmaloka is the spiritual karana-samudra, or Causal Ocean. The material energy exists on the other side of the Causal Ocean, without touching it
- On this material planet the trees can produce fruits and flowers according to the order of material energy, but in the Vaikuntha planets the trees, the land, the residents and the animals are all spiritual
- Once in the bodily conception, he gets different types of bodies one after the other under the influence of material energy and impelled by the modes of material nature (sattva-guna, rajo-guna and tamo-guna)
- Once the spirit soul takes shelter of maya, the illusory material energy, he develops the material qualities of goodness, passion, and ignorance. The spirit soul loses his original characteristics and develops a new nature
- Once this relation (with Krsna) is slightly revived, the conditioned soul at once becomes freed from the illusion of material energy and becomes mad after the association of the Lord
- One must accept whatever body is offered by the material energy. This is the position of the ordinary living being

- Out of desire to lord it over, the jiva soul forgets that he is eternal, full of knowledge and full of bliss and identifies with the material energy. So it is the consciousness of the conditioned soul that is affected

- Pantheism in its higher status does not permit the student to form an impersonal conception of the Absolute Truth, but it extends the conception of the Absolute Truth into the field of the so-called material energy
- People are thinking that by adjusting the material energy they will be happy, and everyone is trying this individually, collectively or nationally. In any case, it is not possible. People will ultimately be frustrated
- People do not know what they are doing when they worship the material energy in the form of goddess Kali or Durga for material boons. They ask, "Mother, give me great riches, give me a good wife, give me fame, give me victory
- People who are suffering in this material world because they are conditioned by the material energy can easily get freedom from the clutches of matter by understanding the Sankhya philosophy enunciated by Lord Kapila
- Persons who are trying to become happy by adjustment of this bahir-artha, external energy, or the material energy, they do not know that happiness cannot be achieved without approaching Visnu, or God
- Philosophers who are subjectively engaged in the cosmic manifestation can appreciate only the wonderful energies of matter. Such philosophers accept the conception of God only as a product of the material energy
- Philosophical speculators who want to make Vedanta philosophy an academic career are considered to be within the material energy
- Plans for material enjoyment are made by the subtle body, and the gross body is the instrument for enjoying these plans. Thus the gross body can be compared to the wife, for the wife is the agent for all kinds of sense gratification
- Prahlada Maharaja say - People in this material world who are enamored with the material energy do not know what the goal of human life is. Why? Because they have been enchanted by the Lord's glaring external energy
- Prahlada Maharaja say - They (people in this material world who are enamored with the material energy) have forgotten that life is an opportunity to understand the ultimate goal of perfection, Visnu

- Radharani is daivi-maya. Just like we are, in our material conditional life, we are under the material energy. Similarly, in our liberated state we have to become under the spiritual energy. That spiritual energy is Radharani
- Ramananda Raya externally appeared to be a grhastha who was under the influence of the external, material energy, not a self-controlled brahmacari, vanaprastha or sannyasi
- Repeatedly, one may become a philosopher, a scientist, or a poet, and, repeatedly, become entangled in the same disadvantages of birth and death. But, due to the illusion of the material energy, one thinks that that sort of life is pleasant. BG 1972 pur
- Replying to King Pariksit’s inquiry, Sukadeva Gosvami said that Lord Siva is the master of the material energy

- Sages have divided the energies of the Supreme Personality of Godhead into three categories - namely, the spiritual energy, marginal energy and material energy. The material energy is considered to be the third-class energy
- Sanandana said, "The personified Vedas sing, 'Without taking shelter at Your (Visnu's) lotus feet one cannot surpass the influence of material energy'"
- Sanandana say, "The personified Vedas sing, 'Because of their offenses, Your material energy has taken charge of them. Thus their transcendental qualities of joyfulness, bliss and wisdom have been covered by the clouds of the three material qualities'"
- Sarga: the first creation by Visnu, the bringing forth of the five gross material elements, the five objects of sense perception, the ten senses, the mind, the intelligence, the false ego and the total material energy, or universal form
- Sat means - effect, asat means - cause, and param refers to the ultimate truth, which is transcendental to cause and effect. The cause of the creation is called the mahat-tattva, or total material energy, and its effect is the creation itself

- She (the illusory energy) wants to test, "How much this person is sincere?" So there will be so many allurement offered by the material energy
- Similarly, the chunk is also, we can accept, the total material energy. You can take it as chunk. But this material energy in the form of chunk is agitated by the glance of Maha-Visnu

- Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura says that the living entities are representations of the Supreme Personality of Godhead's marginal potency whereas the various bodies accepted by the living entities are products of the material energy
- Srimad-Bhagavatam is auspicious even for the nondevotees because it explains that even the nondevotees hovering under the spell of material energy can be delivered from such clutches if they hear the narration with devotion and attention
- Subhadra is the sister of Krsna, and from her comes the incarnation of Durga, the personification of material energy
- Such control of the material energy, however, can be most successfully carried out if one is a soul surrendered unto the Supreme Personality of Godhead and carries out His order in the spirit of loving transcendental service

- That is Krsna consciousness movement, that we are being harassed by maya, the material energy, and if we take shelter of Krsna then we will be specially protected

- The energy and the energetic Personality of Godhead are not different, and although such energy is one with God, He is never overpowered by it. Although the living entities are also parts and parcels of the Lord, they are overcome by the material energy
- The energy emanated from Him (the Supreme Lord) is not different from Him. But in the actual activity of this material world, the living entity is under the different qualities of material energy and in different forms
- The energy emanating from the Supreme Personality of Godhead cannot act on Him; it acts on the conditioned souls, who are covered by the material energy
- The energy in which the Lord's all-pervasiveness is not realized is called material. Otherwise, everything is spiritual. Therefore Prahlada prays, ekas tvam eva jagad etam: "You are everything"
- The entire material energy is working according to the plans of Anantadeva. Therefore we should regard Him as the root cause of the material creation. There is no end to His strength, and no one can fully describe Him
- The entire world is going on because the living entity, who is part and parcel of the Supreme Lord, is utilizing the material energy
- The eternally free living entities are called nitya-mukta, for they never come in contact with the material energy. However, some living entities are conditioned in this material world, and thus they think themselves separated from the Supreme Lord
- The exact position of the living entities is just like that of the sparks of a fire; they are part and parcel. The material energy is compared to the smoke. The fire is also part and parcel of the Supreme Lord
- The external, material energy is represented by her three modes, namely goodness, passion and ignorance
- The external, material energy moves this wheel like electrical energy. Thus the wheel revolves very quickly around its hub or central support, the SPG, who is the Supersoul and the ultimate truth. We offer our respectful obeisances unto Him
- The facilities and benedictions which one achieves by association with a pure devotee are incomparable. They cannot be compared to anything - neither elevation to the heavenly kingdom nor liberation from material energy
- The field or the earth is not exploding with the vegetation. It is due to the sunshine. Therefore it is coming out. It is the real cause. Similarly, accepting that chunk, the total material energy, it is agitated by the glance of Maha-Visnu
- The first (plenary expansion of Lord Krsna), Maha-Visnu, creates the total material energy, known as mahat-tattva. BG 1972 purports
- The first form of Lord Visnu is called Maha-Visnu. He is the original creator of the total material energy. The innumerable universes emanate from the pores of His body
- The first purusa-avatara, Maha-Visnu in the Causal Ocean, who is the creator of the aggregate material energy, is an expansion of Sankarsana
- The forgetful living entity, although part and parcel of Krsna, falsely puts himself in the position of enjoyer of the material world and, being thus implicated in material entanglement, is forced by the material energy to continue his material existence
- The goal of life is to reach Visnu, but instead of reaching Visnu, people are bewildered by the external manifestation of the material energy
- The godless men, those who are of opinions that this material energy is working automatically, they are fools. That is the explanation of Isopanisad. Everything is being controlled by the Supreme Personality of Godhead
- The great rsi Sukadeva Gosvami said: My dear King, there is no limit to the expansion of the Supreme Personality of Godhead's material energy
- The human beings, by long material association, life after life, have a natural inclination, by practice, to endeavor to lord it over material energy
- The illusory, material energy cannot work there, ashamed before God and His transcendental devotees. In the material world the sense activities are not without grief, but here it is said that the senses of the Lord and the devotees are without any grief
- The illusory, material energy is represented by Durgadevi, who is the wife of Girisa, or Lord Siva. Durgadevi could not captivate Lord Siva's mind, but now that Lord Siva wanted to see Lord Visnu's feminine form
- The individual living entity never has sufficient knowledge; otherwise, how could he have come under the control of maya, or the material energy? The word "sufficient" can be accepted, therefore, only in proportion to the magnitude of the living entity
- The influence of the material energy cannot touch Lord Visnu as she touches Lord Brahma and Lord Siva. Therefore it is said that Lord Visnu is transcendental to the material qualities
- The ingredients of matter are counted as twenty-three: the total material energy, false ego, sound, touch, form, taste, smell, earth, water, fire, air, sky, eye, ear, nose, tongue, skin, hand, leg, evacuating organ, genitals, speech and mind
- The jiva, or living entity, is actually prakrti, or the marginal energy of the Supreme Lord. Being associated with material energy, he tries to lord it over the material nature. This is also confirmed in Bhagavad-gita
- The jiva, or the individual living entity, becomes entrapped by the material energy by the supreme will of the Supreme Personality of Godhead
- The Karanodakasayi, Garbhodakasayi and Ksirodakasayi forms of Narayana all create in cooperation with the material energy. In this way They are attached to maya

- The living entities are not meant to be conditioned by material energy but due to their being affected by the false sense of lording it over material energy they come under the influence of potency & become conditioned by the 3 modes of material nature
- The living entities belong to the category of superior energy. The inferior energy, or material energy, is called apara prakrti. In the Bhagavad-gita the creative energy is thus presented in two forms, namely apara and para prakrti
- The living entities serving material energy are struggling hard for existence and happiness, which is presented to them as illusion. But those in the spiritual energy are placed under the direct service of the Lord in eternal life, knowledge and bliss
- The living entities who are expanded by His internal potency are eternally liberated persons, whereas those who are expanded in terms of the material energies are eternally conditioned souls
- The living entities, although parts and parcels of Lord Krsna, are prone to be controlled by the external energy; therefore, although they are spiritual, in the material world they are encased in bodies of material energy
- The living entities, however, being subdued by the material energy, have forgotten the Supreme Personality of Godhead

- The living entity forgets his real identity as spirit soul, Brahman, and instead of realizing his factual position thinks himself the product of the material energy
- The living entity forgets that he is eternally the servitor of Krsna, and his forgetfulness causes his bondage in conditional life and his attraction for material energy. Indeed, that attraction is the shackle of material energy
- The living entity has the power to live either in the material energy or in the spiritual energy, and for this reason he is called marginal energy
- The living entity has to be situated in the transcendental position where there is no more influence of time nor of the material energy
- The living entity in the marginal position identifies himself with material energy and thereby becomes subjected to the threefold miseries. Only when he is free from such material contamination can he be situated in his proper position
- The living entity in this material world is a spiritual being, but because he has a tendency to enjoy, to exploit the material energy, he has contacted a body
- The living entity is an ever-conditioned servant of the material energy, whereas Krsna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, is the master of the material energy. How, then, could they be on an equal level? There can be no comparison between them
- The living entity is but one of these energies (marginal energy). The energy and the energetic are one in one sense, but they are differently situated as energy and the energetic
- The living entity is called the marginal energy because by nature he is spiritual but by forgetfulness he is situated in the material energy. Thus he has the power to live either in the material energy or in the spiritual energy
- The living entity is covered by the material energy and consequently identifies the body with the self. This false identification is called "false ego"
- The living entity is eternal, but somehow or other, when in contact with the material energy, he is subjected to the repetition of birth, death, old age and disease. The physicians of the modern day should learn from Murari Gupta
- The living entity is not a product of the material energy; he is spiritual energy, but in contact with matter he forgets his identity
- The living entity is put into ignorance and thus into different conditions of bondage because of being contaminated by the material energy
- The living entity is the eternal servant of Krsna. Being part and parcel of the Lord, he is constitutionally pure, but due to his contact with material energy, he identifies himself with either the gross or the subtle material body
- The living entity must accept a particular type of body awarded to him by maya, the material energy, according to his karma. One cannot independently say, Give me a body like this or Give me a body like that
- The living entity, being part and parcel of Para-brahman, is actually internal potency, but because of being in contact with the material energy, he is an emanation of material and spiritual energies
- The living entity, who is of the marginal energy, is entrapped by the material energy on the basis of his desire to lord it over the material world
- The living entity, without knowledge of the Supreme Person and His agent the material energy, thinks that he is the doer. In fact, he is not at all the doer
- The Lord accepts the material energy for His material pastimes in creation, maintenance and dissolution. But the conditioned soul is covered; he cannot understand that beyond this material energy there is the Supreme Personality of Godhead
- The Lord and living beings are all individual persons. With the help of the material energies the living beings are also creating something, but none of their creations are equal or superior to the creations of the Lord
- The Lord Caitanya told Sanatana: Since you are between the material energy and the spiritual energy, your position is marginal. Belonging to the marginal potency of Krsna, you are simultaneously one with and different from Krsna
- The Lord descends either as Kapila or Rama, Nrsimha or Varaha, and whatever forms He assumes in the material world are all manifestations of His own personal internal energy. They are never forms of the material energy
- The Lord Himself warns that the deluding power of material energy is too powerful to overcome, but one who completely surrenders unto the Lord can easily do so
- The Lord is saguna by His own internal potency, but at the same time He is nirguna, since He is not in touch with the material energy
- The Lord is the father of all living entities because He impregnates material energy with the conditioned souls. The conditioned souls get bodies created by the material energy, whereas the father of the living entities is aloof from the three modes
- The Lord is the supreme seer because only by His glance did the material energy become active for cosmic manifestation. At that time the seer was there, but the external energy, over which the glance of the Lord is cast, was not present
- The Lord says in Bhagavad-gita (BG 18.61): The Supreme Lord is situated in everyone's heart, O Arjuna, and is directing the wanderings of all living entities, who are seated as on a machine, made of the material energy
- The Lord was so pleased with Bhattacarya that He began to bless him repeatedly: From today you are freed from the contamination of this material body and the entanglement of material energy. You are now fit to go back to Godhead, back home
- The Lord's supervision in connection with creation is mentioned even in the Bhagavad-gita (BG 9.10), and it is clearly said there that material energy is a manifestation of one of many such energies of the Supreme
- The mahat-tattva, the total material energy, is undivided, but because of the material modes of nature, it appears to separate into earth, water, fire, air and ether - SB 10.3.15-17

- The material energy has to act to bewilder the living entity who is under the direction of Krsna
- The material energy is a covering of the spiritual spark, but in the absence of that material covering, the living beings in Vaikunthaloka are never forgetful of their identities
- The material energy is always provoking doubts about the supreme authority of the Lord
- The material energy is called jagal-laksmi because she protects the bewildered conditioned souls. Goddess Durga is therefore known as the material mother, and Lord Siva, her husband, is known as the material father
- The material energy is in fact divided into twenty-four elements. The individual soul, the owner of the individual body, is a twenty-fifth subject, and above everything is Lord Visnu as Paramatma, the supreme controller, who is the twenty-sixth subject
- The material energy is inferior, and the living entities are superior energy. Energy and the energetic are nondifferent; therefore, energies possess the same quality as the energetic
- The material energy is nondifferent from the Supreme Lord, but at the same time, because that energy is acting in a different way, it is different from Him
- The material energy is represented by goddess Durga, and because Lord Siva happens to be her husband, goddess Durga is completely under his subjugation
- The material energy is spiritual energy covered by a cloud of illusion, or maya. Therefore, the material energy is not self-sufficient in working
- The material energy is trying to entrap the conditioned soul as much as possible
- The material energy is working. This cosmic manifestation made of earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence and ego are the eight ingredients of this material manifestation. So these eight material elements, they are energies, separated energy
- The material energy may be working in different ways that may not be very pleasant to the living entity, but that does not mean that material energy is not liked by Krsna
- The material energy means these eight kinds of material elements. Bhumir apo 'nalo vayuh: earth, water, fire, air, sky, mind, intelligence, and ego. These are all material
- The material energy produce varieties of things, just as an artist produces varieties of pictures by mixing the three colors red, yellow and blue. Yellow represents the quality of goodness, red represents passion, and blue represents ignorance
- The material energy was accepted by the Supreme Personality of Godhead in order that He might exhibit pastimes for the living entities who wanted to enjoy and lord it over the material energy
- The material energy works under the supreme spell of His Lordship, although He is always transcendental to all such material activities
- The material energy, called maya, is also one of the multi-energies of the Lord. And we the living entities are also the energy, marginal energy, of the Lord. The living entities are described as superior to material energy
- The material energy, in which we are presently entangled, is the inferior energy. The material creation is made possible by this energy, which covers the living entities with ignorance (avidya) and induces them to perform fruitive activities
- The material energy, or maya (after becoming more stringent and vigorous to test sincerity of the aspiring spiritualist), will then offer more allurements
- The material energy, which is a perverted form of the spiritual energy, presents everything pervertedly, thus causing misconceptions and duality
- The material forms of the conditioned souls are all foreign dresses, and when the conditioned soul becomes liberated from the clutches of material energy, he attains his original form
- The material nature, the total material energy, the false ego, the five material elements, the material senses, the mind, the intelligence & consciousness cannot create the material manifestation without the direction of the SPG
- The material scientists may have discovered the law of gravity, which maintains the integration of objects in the material energy yet the master of all integration can create devastation by the disintegrating blazing fire emanating from His (God's) mouth
- The material world is also the goddess of fortune because the material energy works under the direction of Lord Visnu, as stated in Bhagavad-gita (9.10) - mayadhyaksena prakrtih suyate sa-caracaram
- The material, external energy (maya), who cooperates with Me in creation and who is manifested in the three modes of nature, will not be able to bewilder you any longer
- The mental concoction of discrimination between good and bad should be accepted as one unit and then invested in the mind, which should then be invested in the false ego. The false ego should be invested in the total material energy

- The next class of duskrtina is called mayayapahrta-jnana, or those persons whose erudite knowledge has been nullified by the influence of illusory material energy. BG 1972 purports
- The objects of material enjoyment (sound, form, taste, touch and smell), the activities of the senses, the controllers of sensory activities (the demigods), the body, eternal time and egotism are all creations of Your material energy
- The ordinary living entities who are manifested in this material world have bodies created by the material energy
- The original potency of Lord Visnu is superior, or spiritual, and the living entity actually belongs to that superior energy. But there is another energy, called the material energy, and this third energy is full of ignorance
- The original source of all material energy is the Supreme Person. This fact is expressed in all the Vedic literatures, and all the exponents of spiritual science have accepted this truth
- The particular form of the Lord exhibited to a devotee is not mundane, even though the devotee may retain material desire, nor is it manifest under the influence of material energy, as is foolishly considered by the impersonalists
- The perfect devotee always acts according to the desires of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. But a materialistic man is carried away by the waves of the material energy
- The position of servitor is wasted in the material conception of life. In an attempt to dominate material nature, the living entity is forced to offer his service to relative material energy
- The pot is produced under certain conditions of action and reaction of material energy, but the potter is not in the pot. In a similar way, the material creation is set up by the Lord, but He remains aloof

- Those who imitate them (Sri Ramananda Raya and Srila Narottama dasa Thakura), accepting them as ordinary human beings, fall under the influence of the material energy, for that is a great misunderstanding
- Those who want to go outside the material energy can enter Hari-dhama and go either to the various planets there or directly to Krsnaloka
- Those who worship the material energy receive the suitable reward for such activities, and those who worship the pitrs receive similar results
- Though You (Krsna) are beyond the purview of the material energy, You execute the four principles of liberation characterized by religion and so on for the ultimate good of the conditioned souls

- Visnu cannot be transformed into any form of material energy. Whenever there is association with maya, the personality involved must be different from Visnu. Therefore Siva & Brahma are called guna-avataras, for they associate with the material qualities
- Visnu has three forms called purusas. The first, Maha-Visnu, is the creator of the total material energy (mahat), the second is Garbhodasayi, who is situated within each universe, and the third is Ksirodasayi, who lives in the heart of every living being

- When one is inclined to become an associate of the Supreme Lord, the Personality of Godhead, in one of the innumerable planets of the spiritual sky, especially in Goloka Vrndavana, one has to think always that he is different from the material energy
- When such a living entity comes under the jurisdiction of the material energy, he is sent into one of the innumerable material universes created by the material energy to give a chance to conditioned souls to fulfill their desires in the material world
- When the cobweb is manufactured by the saliva of the spider, the spider does not become impersonal. Similarly, the creation and manifestation of the material or spiritual energy does not render the creator impersonal
- When the hladini-sakti is adulterated by the external, material energy, the living being becomes mad after material sense enjoyment
- When the living being desires to be an enjoyer of material energy (illusory phenomena), the Lord covers the living being in the mystery of forgetfulness, and thus the living being misinterprets the gross body and subtle mind to be his own self

- When the living entity is attracted by the material energy, which is separate from Krsna, he is overpowered by fear. Because he is separated from the Supreme Personality of Godhead by the material energy, his conception of life is reversed
- When the living entity is uncovered from these material or inferior energies, he is called liberated. When he is liberated, he has no false ego, but his real ego again comes into existence
- When the seven properties of material nature (the total material energy, the ego and the five objects of sense gratification) are in proper order, the living entity within the material elements is happy. Without these seven elements one cannot exist
- When the superior energy is in contact with the inferior energy, an incompatible situation arises; but when the superior marginal energy is in contact with the superior energy, called Hara, it is established in its happy, normal condition
