- A guru is necessary. In the Bhagavad-gita, when Krsna and Arjuna were talking as friends, there was no conclusion. So Arjuna decided to accept Krsna as his guru
- Actually there is only one guru - Krsna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. So those who simply repeat His words, they also become guru. But of course a guru never thinks himself as being God

- Tene brahma hrda ya adi-kavaye: (SB 1.1.1) "It is He only who first imparted Vedic knowledge unto the heart of Brahma, the first created being." Therefore He is the original guru
- The bona fide guru is he who advises his disciples exactly in accordance with the principles spoken by Krsna. The bona fide guru is he who has accepted Krsna as guru. This is the guru-parampara system
- The disciple will offer as respect, as much respect he offers to Krsna, to guru. That is the sastric injunction. For that reason the real guru will not think that "I have become Krsna."
- The first-class yogi takes Krsna as everything - priya, suta, sakha, guru, everything. This is real bhakti
