Vandalism

Lectures

Srimad-Bhagavatam Lectures

Lecture on SB 1.7.13-14 -- Vrndavana, September 12, 1976: In the fight all the parties who died, they all obtained vīra-gatim. And most of them they achieved svarūpa. That is described in a different place. Svarūpa means his original, spiritual form. All the soldiers or the kings who died, and at the time of death who were seeing Kṛṣṇa—Kṛṣṇa was there in the battlefield—all of them achieved their original, spiritual form. Svarūpam. And those who did not see Kṛṣṇa, they got promoted vīra-gatim, in the heavenly planet. So fight is not always bad. If it is dharma-yuddha, according to the prescribed rules, not whimsical fight, dharma-yuddha, then there is gain. This science is lost. There is no such thing. Now fighting means hooliganism, vandalism, guṇḍā-ism. That is not fight. Here is fight: vīra-gatim gate. They are all promoted.

Conversations and Morning Walks

1976 Conversations and Morning Walks

Morning Walk -- January 16, 1976, Mayapur:

Prabhupāda: No, how it breaks? They keep it for years, and you broke them? How you...? How you broke? Automatically?

Jayapatāka: No, because there was no place to store them, by moving them and moving them from different rooms then they gradually broke.

Prabhupāda: So there are so many rooms. You could not make any store?

Jayapatāka: First they were in the building to here. When they moved it then many became damaged. And somebody came in and vandaled them.

Prabhupāda: Huh?

Jayapatāka: Somebody came in and destroyed them.

Prabhupāda: Somebody came in?

Jayapatāka: Vandalized.
Morning Walk -- January 16, 1976, Mayapur:

Jayapatāka: They're putting a very nice stone. Rose quartz.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: Is that.... The stones and everything cost fifteen rupees?

Jayapatāka: Well...

Prabhupāda: [break] Vandalism, no? Then what is to be done? [break] ...big doors, why it is open? This should be open when car is going. Otherwise not.

Jayapatāka: (Bengali)

Prabhupāda: Huh?

Jayapatāka: I think he opened it for Your Divine Grace to go.

Prabhupāda: No, close it. Simply...
Morning Walk -- January 16, 1976, Mayapur:

Jayapatāka: This wall was.... We only got the money for building all this a month and a half ago. Then this wall is just plastered. It takes two months to dry the wall. If you paint before two months, then the paint will come off. Therefore, we're giving this two months. We made the arch and now we're going to start the painting. [break] ...immediately paint it right after plastering and the paint doesn't stick. We thought that by doing this the wall would be so beautiful and impressive that the pictures will be more accented.

Prabhupāda: Do it. [break] ...foolish person in the whole world. You allow vandals to come and break your dolls. [break] ...give them protection, even to the dolls. [break] ...made with so much labor and you allowed the vandals to come in?
Morning Walk -- June 22, 1976, New Vrindaban:

Prabhupāda: Why you should waste? Wasting is not allowed. [break] ...our car?

Kīrtanānanda: No, it belonged to the man who formerly owned the property.

Prabhupāda: So how it is broken?

Kīrtanānanda: Some vandals. There's no one living here, he just left it. (in car:) This farm is for sale now.

Prabhupāda: There is no limit of purchasing?

Correspondence

1968 Correspondence

Letter to Sivananda -- Los Angeles 12 February, 1968: People in general are already under the spell of Maya. That is to say, they want sense gratification. If anyone encourages the method of sense gratification, at the same time become a yogi, why people will not prefer that method? We say there is no illicit sexlife, no intoxication, no meat eating, no gambling, so if Maharishi says there is no restrictions, naturally large number of people will follow him. That means they want to be cheated, and Krishna sends them a cheater. We cannot cheat people like him. We must say the truth, as they are prescribed; in the Bhagavad-gita there are 18 kinds of austerities, 13rd chapter. The restrictions which we are following are austerities. Without austerity, without celibacy, any amount of nonsense meditation will not help. So there is no comparison of our method with Maharishi's method. We are not out to counteract any kind of vandalism. We must present the genuine thing before the public, and if they are intelligent enough they will take it up and realize it. The followers of Maharishi are not intelligent class of men. If you have any advancement in the knowledge of Bhagavad-gita, you can test any follower of Maharishi, you will find he is nil.
