Conversations and Morning Walks

1968 Conversations and Morning Walks

Room Conversation -- July 16, 1968, Montreal:

Prabhupāda: So Annapurna you have got some news?

Annapurna: I got a letter from my father.

Prabhupāda: So is that all right?

Annapurna: Yes.

Prabhupāda: So what is our next program? (chuckles) That letter is encouraging?

Annapurna: Yes.

Prabhupāda: That's all right. (pause) So on behalf of Kṛṣṇa we have to canvass with folded hands and with all humility, "Please come to our temple and hear." He sādhavā sakalam eva vihāya dūrād caitanya-candra-caraṇe kurutānurāgam. All right.

Conversation with Devotees -- August 15, 1968, Montreal:

Prabhupāda: Your starting London yātrā is very nice, beginning. Now you practice, all.

Haṁsadūta: Together?

Prabhupāda: Yes, every morning, and just make systematic so that it becomes very nice. And at least twelve heads. So you are husband wife. How many pairs? Six? Or five? Come. And you are also going? Eh? London? I ask you, Annapūrṇa.

Annapūrṇa: Yes.

Prabhupāda: Eh? You want to go with them or you want to go separately?

Child: I would like to go with Annapūrṇa.

Prabhupāda: Oh. That's all right. Hare Kṛṣṇa. Chant Hare Kṛṣṇa.

Room Conversation -- October 27, 1968, Montreal, With First Devotees Going to London On Evening of Their Departure:

Prabhupāda: Then Harvard University and Boston University, and one church. They have paid, yes. And one church, Arlington Church, in that church... I think you were present there? Arlington Church?

Govinda dasi: Unitarian?

Prabhupāda: No. You have not been in Boston. Some girls from temple, they were present.

Govinda dasi: Annapūrṇa?

Prabhupāda: Annapūrṇa is always present wherever I go. (laughing) She is very nice, that she wants to follow me. This morning I was asking her that "After your marriage where you want to stay?" and she said, "Wherever you stay, I stay." "And I am traveling. Then you are married. You must have a place to settle." Anyway, in that church they charged us for meeting, but we collected very nicely. We collected more than hundred dollars. Yes. A very nice meeting.

Room Conversation -- October 27, 1968, Montreal, With First Devotees Going to London On Evening of Their Departure:

Janārdana: Whole wheat grains and there's rice.

Prabhupāda: Rice... Better... Wheat is better.

Janārdana: And what else is there?

Prabhupāda: Sesame?

Janārdana: Sesame? I don't know. Is there some sesame?

Mālatī: Yes, I have some and Annapurna has some.

Janārdana: And there's some buckwheat. Raw buckwheat.

Prabhupāda: Buckwheat? What is that?

Janārdana: Raw buckwheat. It's a grain.

Correspondence

1967 Correspondence

Letter to Rayarama -- Calcutta 16 October, 1967:

One of our girl devotees, Srimati Annapurna devi, who is in San Francisco has also facilities to visit London because she belongs to that place. So you can open correspondence with her also.

1968 Correspondence

Letter to Janardana -- Los Angeles 21 January, 1968:

I have another disciple here, Annapurna, she also comes from England, and I think we may be able to do something in England with the help of these boys and girls.

Letter to Kirtanananda -- Montreal 30 June, 1968:

I am planning to go to London in August. Srimati Annapurna's father. Mr. Louis Weble is trying to get a good house for us.

Letter to Balai, Advaita -- Montreal 19 August, 1968:

And I have also advised Purusottama that he trains somewhat in taking photographs, and some of the girl students, especially Annapurna, she knows how to use typographic machine, and her future husband, Ananda, he has also some idea of press work.

Letter to Mukunda -- San Francisco 14 September, 1968:

Annapurna's father, Mr. Webb, told me that there are many old churches which are not being properly used. So if you can secure one big church, that will be very nice.

Letter to Jaya Govinda -- San Francisco 15 September, 1968:

Gargamuni has already opened a grand center in Seattle. Similarly, Annapurna and Ananda are going to open a center in Vancouver, and you know also that Hayagriva and Kirtanananda, with the help of several other devotees are developing New Vrindaban in 138 acres of land in West Va.

Letter to Syamasundara -- Seattle 10 October, 1968:

I was in correspondence with Mr. Webb, Annapurna's father, and he informed me that there were so many vacant houses, churches etc., simply he wanted that somebody from our side should go to London, and see which place was suitable. So, if possible, you can see Mr. Webb.

Letter to Annapurna -- Los Angeles 5 December, 1968:

After long time, please accept my blessings. I beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter dated Oct. 30, which has reached me after travelling over the whole world. It was addressed to Montreal, sent to Hollywood Blvd., then to Orange Drive and finally it has come to me. So it has taken so long time and I am very glad to learn that you are now in your father's country and feeling very nice. Mukunda and all the other devotees are trying their best to start a temple in London and a temple is already there by Krishna's Grace. The landlord has offered them the place free of rent until the house is disposed of so I think that they should try to influence the landlord to donate the building for our great cause. At least he should let us conduct our business there for the benefit of all of mankind. It is understood that the landlord belongs to the hippie group and he has purchased the house for hippie propaganda but now wishes to sell the house and property. If some concessional rate is offered then we can also try to purchase the property. So consult with your godbrothers and Gurudasa is the best man to tackle with this landlord and appeal to him to donate this house free for this great cause of spreading Krishna Consciousness. So again I thank you for your nice letter and the sentiments expressed therein and please keep me informed as to your well-being.

1969 Correspondence

Letter to Ananda -- San Francisco 3 April, 1969:

Have you any correspondence with Annapurna since last August or September? I have not heard from her since then. After returning to her father's house she wrote me one letter, but since then I do not know about her whereabouts. If you can, please let me know her address.

Letter to Ananda -- Columbus, Ohio 14 May, 1969:

As you have suggested, I have sent one letter to Annapurna, in care of her father, and without writing my return address. As of yet I have not received her reply.

Letter to Ananda -- New Vrindaban 25 May, 1969:

As of yet I have still received no answer from Annapurna.
