Conversations and Morning Walks

1975 Conversations and Morning Walks

Morning Walk -- June 22, 1975, Los Angeles:

Jayatīrtha: Always cold. But this palace is in a fairly warm zone. It's got some sort of breeze coming from the Mediterranean Sea, I think. Anyway, it keeps it a little warmer than most places. And it does not snow very much during the winter, they say. Besides the palace, there are some other buildings also. One place they are going to use for a gośāla, and one place for a Gurukula. And then several householder houses.

Prabhupāda: And the land for farming?

Jayatīrtha: Yes, at least half the land is good for farming. It's level and there's a good water supply.

Prabhupāda: There is some river?

Jayatīrtha: No, there's no river, but there's a...

Prabhupāda: Waterfall?

Jayatīrtha: ...pond there.

Prabhupāda: Oh. (break)

Jayatīrtha: ...fifty devotees in Paris now. So that temple there is very crowded. Impossible.

Prabhupāda: So, why not some of them moved?

Jayatīrtha: Yes, that's their plan. (break) ...enough for several hundred devotees very easily. (break) They're letting us through in the mornings for nothing now, I think, unless this man is going to nip us. (break)

Prabhupāda: Why?

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: He was in maṅgala āratik. I don't know where he is now. (break)

Prabhupāda: Brahmānanda is not come? Nobody knows why? (break)

Devotees: He was in maṅgala āratik.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: He was not dancing very much, though. So maybe he was not... (break)

Rādhā-ballabha: Here comes Brahmānanda.

Prabhupāda: How he comes? (laughing) He is running. Oh, another car?

Correspondence

1969 Correspondence

Letter to Gopala Krsna -- Tittenhurst 1 October, 1969:

I am sorry to learn that Dayala Nitai has temporarily left our association, and if in his absence you can take charge of printing French edition of Back To Godhead, that is nice. But the thing is it must be regularly published every month. Now some devotees have gone to Paris. They are not as yet established, but the idea is that we should eventually publish our French edition from Paris, as the German edition is being published from Hamburg. But so long it is not begun there, you can take charge of publishing from Montreal, as it was being done. Janardana has not come here to see me at London. I do not know if he has already gone to Paris, because I have not received any letter from him either.

Letter to Govinda -- Tittenhurst 27 October, 1969:

Regarding the French girl, she is so kind to join with us. I have advised Janardana, who is here in London for a few days, to write you how this girl can help us. Janardana liked her translation and good spelling, so she will be very much useful for transcribing or typing our French literatures. I do not know whether she will be prepared to go to her own country and assist the other devotees in Paris. That would be a very nice proposal. I am very encouraged to hear about your nice engagements there. I am enclosing herewith one note for Sai. You can hand it over to him. I have duly received the bananas you sent, and you can send me these dried bananas tons and tons. It is very useful and can be nicely used for our Ekadasi foodstuffs. After drying the bananas you can make powder, just like flour, and out of this you can prepare puris, halava, pakoras and other fruit products.

Letter to Gopala Krsna -- London 8 November, 1969:

I thank your very much for your letter of October 18, 1969, and yesterday I received your gift of one shawl. This shawl is very nice, and it will be used when I go to some meeting in my dress garments. Please send some me the new editions of the French BTG. If you are able to print them nicely in outside press for a good price, then it is very good. But in any case this magazine should be published regularly. The addresses of the Paris devotees are as follows: Suridas Adhikari, 2 Place de la Chapelle, Paris, 18, France. Janardana's address is 6, rue Michelet, 94 Fontenay-Sous-Bois, France.

1970 Correspondence

Letter to Harivilasa -- Los Angeles 14 June, 1970:

So for the time being you just remain in Paris with the devotees there and grasp the ideas more explicitly and then try to open a center in one of the Middle Eastern countries. Sometime before I met one gentleman in New York from Iran. His name and address is given below:

Mr. Majid Movagarh / Mehr Monthly Review

224, Shareza Avenue / Tehran, Iran

He informed me that people in Tehran are interested in such yoga societies like ours. They are also hankering after something like this for spiritual advancement.

1973 Correspondence

Letter to Guru-gauranga, Paris Devotees -- London 24 August, 1973:

My Dear Guru Gauranga and all other Paris devotees,

Please accept my blessings. I beg to acknowledge receipt of your nice letters dated August 18 and 19th 1973. I was very much pleased to come there and visit. Paris is developing nicely step by step. When I was at the Hotel de Ville I thought that this is better than London. So Paris is a most important city of the world. Work with great enthusiasm and make Krishna more prominent than Napoleon and Eiffel tower.

Letter to Shri Khilnani -- New Delhi 29 September, 1973:

We consider one who is a devotee as being first class learned and educated. If you do not like your daughter being in Paris with the devotees, you can call her back. I have no objection. But, our mission is that everyone should be given the chance to become Krsna conscious. Many thousands of boys and girls in the Western countries are seriously taking to this movement sacrificing many things. Especially they do not indulge in illicit sex life, gambling, meat eating, and intoxication. I think your daughter is very fortunate to be amongst the devotees and living a very happy life. But, if you think it is not good, then you can guide your daughter. I have no objection. I am of course busy with so many things, therefore I have forwarded your letter for necessary action.

1974 Correspondence

Letter to Aradhana -- Honolulu 22 January, 1974:

I can understand that you are feeling disturbed because your wife has left you, and also that you are not living within the association of devotees at our Paris temple. My advice to you is that you associate always with Krsna through chanting the Holy Name. If you are always with Krsna there is no question of moroseness or anxiety. Further than this, Krsna will give you intelligence through sincere chanting, how to progress further in Krsna Consciousness. It is a fact, however, that to be happy and peaceful in spiritual life, the association of devotees is essential.
