Ketu

Srimad-Bhagavatam

SB Canto 6

SB 6.6.37, Translation:

In his wife Siṁhikā, Vipracitti begot one hundred and one sons, of whom the eldest is Rāhu and the others are the one hundred Ketus. All of them attained positions in the influential planets.

SB Canto 7

SB 7.4.37, Purport:

An exalted devotee, or mahātmā, who is rarely to be seen, remains fully conscious of Kṛṣṇa and constantly sees the Lord within the core of his heart. It is sometimes said that when one is influenced by evil stars like Saturn, Rāhu or Ketu, he cannot make advancement in any prospective activity. In just the opposite way, Prahlāda Mahārāja was influenced by Kṛṣṇa, the supreme planet, and thus he could not think of the material world and live without Kṛṣṇa consciousness. That is the sign of a mahā-bhāgavata. Even if one is an enemy of Kṛṣṇa, a mahā-bhāgavata sees him to be also engaged in Kṛṣṇa's service.

Sri Caitanya-caritamrta

CC Adi-lila

CC Adi 13.89, Purport:

Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura, in his Amṛta-pravāha-bhāṣya, has presented the horoscope of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu as follows:

śaka 1407/10/22/28/45
dinam
7 11 8
15 54 38
40 37 40
13 6 23

The explanation of the horoscope given by Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura is that at the time of the birth of Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu the planets were situated as follows: Śukra (Venus) was in Meṣa-rāśi (Aries) and the nakṣatra (lunar mansion) of Aśvinī; Ketu (the ninth planet) was in Siṁha-rāśi (Leo) and Uttaraphalgunī; Candra (the moon) was in Pūrvaphalgunī (the eleventh lunar mansion); Śani (Saturn) was in Vṛścika-rāśi (Scorpio) and Jyeṣthā; Bṛhaspati (Jupiter) was in Dhanu-rāśi (Sagittarius) and Pūrvāṣāḍhā; Maṅgala (Mars) was in Makara-rāśi (Capricorn) and Śravaṇā; Ravi (the sun) was in Kumbha-rāśi (Aquarius) and Pūrvabhādrapāda; Rāhu was in Pūrvabhādrapāda; and Budha (Mercury) was in Mīna-rāśi (Pisces) and Uttarabhādrapāda. The lagna was Siṁha.

1975 Conversations and Morning Walks

Morning Walk -- May 19, 1975, Melbourne:

Amogha: ...purports. And that purport that you gave is very, very...

Prabhupāda: Basic.

Amogha: Yeah. It explains it very clearly. That will clear up any misconception.

Prabhupāda: That law of gravity is a bogus theory. The... Sixteen hundred thousand miles... Sixteen hundred thousand miles below the sun is the Rāhu. They are going there.

Amogha: Rāhu. Seems like all the planets, they have that space interval of sixteen hundred thousand miles. Most of the sun...

Prabhupāda: Yes, yes.

Amogha: ...and then the moon and Venus. That two hundred thousand yojanas.

Prabhupāda: When the Rāhu happens to be between the two planets, sun and moon, there is eclipse.

Amogha: When the orbits intercross.

Prabhupāda: Yes.

Amogha: Ketu is below Rāhu?

Prabhupāda: Ketu is not mentioned there.

Amogha: Oh. (break)

Prabhupāda: ...another part of Rāhu.

Amogha: Hm.

1977 Conversations and Morning Walks

Room Conversation -- October 8, 1977, Vrndavana:

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: The eight house is called the house of death. He says, "Ketu is in the eight house with the sun, which is the lord of the eighth house, and Krusu, the lord of the twelfth and third houses. They are all in the eighth house. Mercury in Ketu started from 16th January." He says, " Budha is the satesa also, disease. Śani has gone to the eighth house, which is the house of death, from the 7th September." That's the day you had your operation. "Śani as lagneśa in the eighth house and the transit over Jupiter and Ketu. The negative effect continues throughout October 1977, November 1977, and from the first of December, 1977, Saturn becomes almost stationary and becomes more malefic." Saturn becomes even worse. "In January 1978 until April 1978 it again traverses the same degrees and becomes stagnant on Jupiter and Ketu in the last week of February. The native has..."

Prabhupāda: January '77 we have passed.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: January '78, Śrīla Prabhupāda. It says that you're supposed to have lived for seventy-five years, but everything beyond that was an extension by Kṛṣṇa.

Prabhupāda: Where is...

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: Juice? They're just making it, Śrīla Prabhupāda. It says here that "The moon is in the eighth house, which is very bad. The patient may not recover." Then he gives various planets which are also not well aligned. He says the conjunction of another two planets is very bad. "Hospitalization and ill health are intensified in the present year. The days which are not good is when the moon passes in the 22nd to the 23rd of nakṣatra, which are 27th to the 28th of September," that's already passed, "The 24th to the 25th of October, then some days in November and December." He says, "Sūrya will apply for Rahu on Saturday, the 8th of October." That's today. This is very bad, this day. Today is Ekādaśī. "Sūrya will apply for Rahu. Brashna, Lagnesh, Mangal, in the eighth house. The medicine will not give any relief. The native will make a fight for life as Sūrya-Mangal are good friends, and Saturn, or Śani, and Śukra are enemies. There is no benefics in the nine, six, eleven and three. Mangal indicates the effects of Sakini. There is difficulty in recovery. The seventh daśa starts on the 13th of January, 1978." It says, "We have noticed that the periods are all negative until March-April 1978, and the main trouble was due to Śani. We suggested that blue sapphire be tried, and he should keep it on. Hospitalization and travels are indicated." Then he says the worst days of all for you are today and tomorrow. He says it is very negative, as well as the llth, which is mixed. But these are all very inauspicious days. The 4th, 5th, 8th, 9th, and 11th of October. He says "The only remedy in this case is to do mahā-mṛtyum-jaya japa and havana. Previously also, now also, we have recommended Śiva. Lord Śiva is the presiding Deity of Śani, and with this, the native will be able to overcome disease and life span increases."

Hari-śauri: That's the mantra he gave to me.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: Astrologically it is up to the eighty-one years, four months, approximately. Says, "Japa and havana."

Prabhupāda: Chant Hare Kṛṣṇa. It is finished. So where is juice? You're asking him for juice.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: Grape juice.

Prabhupāda: You sit down and chant.

Room Conversation -- October 14, 1977, Vrndavana:

Prabhupāda: So the final inauspicious day is not come yet.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: Final inauspicious day?

Prabhupāda: Means death.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: What does that mean? The final inauspicious date?

Prabhupāda: Yes. This is the... That means death.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: Fatal day.

Prabhupāda: Yes.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: I'll just look. (pause) What does this mean? "Ketu Mahādaśā?" What is the meaning of that, Śrīla Prabhupāda?

Prabhupāda: Ketu, the most inauspicious.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: Well, it says, "You're presently undergoing the fag end of Ketu Mahādaśā, and it will last until 13th of January, 1978." It mentions a lot of things. I don't understand these astrological terms. I could read them to you. If you understand them, I can read them to you. I don't understand them. Just like I just mentioned Ketu Mahādaśā. To me that didn't mean anything, 'cause I didn't understand it.

Bhakti-caru: Pradyumna understands.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: Where is he?

Jayādvaita: In the reception room.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: Should I read these out loud to you? Should I read these things to you?

Prabhupāda: Yes.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: Should... Pradyumna is here also. He's in the next room. Should I call him?

Prabhupāda: Yes.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: Get Pradyumna. (break) ...is that end of the Ketu Mahādaśā, because it says, "Astrologically it is up to eighty-one years, four months, approximate." Eighty-one years, four months would make it about January 1978. So that's the date given, January 13, 1978. Pradyumna, why don't you come over here and read this, 'cause I can't understand all these things. Just read loud and clear to Prabhupāda. Start here.

Pradyumna: "Śrīla Prabhupādajī is at present undergoing the fag end of Ketu Mahādaśā, and it will last till 13th January, 1978. Ketu is in the eighth house with Sun, lord of eighth house, and Guru, Bṛhaspati, lord of the twelfth and third houses. Mercury and Ketu started from 16/1 1977. Budha... Budha ṣaṣṭheśa(?) also." Ṣaṣṭheśa means lord of house of disease. That is not good. Budha is Mercury. Mercury is ṣaṣṭheśa also. Disease. That means disease, Budha. "Śani has gone to eighth house, house of death, from 7th September, 1977."

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: That's Prabhupāda's appearance day.

Pradyumna: "Śani is lagneśa in the eighth house and in transit over Jupiter from 24th September, exact, and Ketu from 16th September, exact."

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: What does that mean? Unless you know astrology...

Pradyumna: That is not good, with this Śani and Ketu. "A negative effect continues throughout October 1977 to November 1977, and from lst of December, 1977, Saturn becomes almost stationary." This is not a good time. "And becomes more malefic." That means it goes vakrabhāva, it goes retrograde, and that is not good. "In January 1978..." It is dangerous time. "In January 1978 to April 1978, it again traverses the same degrees and becomes stagnant on Jupiter." In other words, Śani, Saturn, is going over, has just gone over some planets, and that was very dangerous. And it will go up. And then it will become very, very slow, and it will stop, and then it will reverse and go over the same planets again. And that again will be very dangerous time. Vakrabhāva: it will become retrograde, will go in reverse motion. "It again traverses the same degrees and becomes stagnant on Jupiter and Ketu in the last week of February 1978." Stagnant means becomes stationary. It won't move.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: For how long?

Pradyumna: That will only be for a day or two. It becomes very slow again, and then it will start up again. When it becomes slow it does this(?) again. So that is why he's saying that is a bad time. You have this bad time when it went over, now it comes back, and it will start again. "The native has dīrghāyu, above seventy-five years of longevity." Means you have dīrghāyu, long life, above seventy-five years. But he cannot say how long. In the praśna-lagna... He has done praśna. Questioned how long will Prabhupāda live, he will do praśna, special chart. He will make calculation. "In the praśna-lagna, Moon applies to Jupiter on the first day..."

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: What day is this? Fourth October.
