- An expression of disappointment was made by Indra, the King of heaven. When he saw the sun-god, Indra told him, "My dear sun-god, your sunshine is very glorious because it reaches unto the lotus feet of Lord Krsna, the master of the Yadu dynasty

- Being pleased with the citizens of Dvaraka, Krsna informed them that the person they described as the sun-god was actually King Satrajit, who had come to visit Dvaraka City to show his opulence in the form of the valuable jewel obtained from the sun-god
- Bhagavad-gita has to be accepted as it is, from the disciplic succession, and it is described herein (BG 4.1) that the Lord spoke to the sun-god, the sun-god spoke to his son Manu, and Manu spoke to his son Iksvaku. BG 1972 purports
- Bhagavad-gita says that Krsna first instructed Bhagavad-gita to the sun-god (imam vivasvate yogam proktavan aham avyayam (BG 4.1)). Therefore the sun is not vacant. It is inhabited by living entities, and the predominating deity is Vairaja, or Vivasvan
- Bhagavad-gita was imparted to the sun god and to Arjuna by Krsna, but nowhere is it mentioned that Bhagavad-gita was imparted to Krsna. Why? Complete knowledge means that He knows everything that is to be known. This is an attribute of God alone
- By the calculation it is forty millions of years ago. Now who will believe that, that Krsna spoke this Bhagavad-gita forty millions of years ago to the sun-god?
F
I
- If I said that I gave a speech on the sun some millions of years ago to the sun-god, people would say, "Swamiji is speaking some nonsense." But this is not the case with Krsna, for He is the Supreme Personality of Godhead
- If we wish to trace it (Bhagavad-gita) even further back, we find that Krsna spoke it earlier to the sun-god. Krsna is eternal, and consciousness of Krsna is also eternal. In this way KC should be approached. It should not simply be considered a theory
- Impersonalists maintain that the sun is simply a fiery globe and nothing else, but in Bhagavad-gita Krsna specifically states that He spoke Bhagavad-gita to the sun-god Vivasvan
- In the Bhagavad-gita Lord Krsna says to Arjuna - This knowledge of Bhagavad-gita was first spoken by Me to the sun-god, and the sun-god spoke it to his son, Manu
- In the Fourth Chapter (BG) we have seen that Lord Krsna remembers instructing Vivasvan, the sun-god, millions of years ago. Krsna knows every living entity because He is situated in every living being's heart as the Supreme Soul. BG 1972 purports
- In the Fourth Chapter Krsna states that He can remember instructing the lessons of the Bhagavad-gita some millions of years ago to the sun-god, Vivasvan
- In the Fourth Chapter of the Bhagavad-gita Lord Krsna affirms that formerly (some 120 million years before the Battle of Kuruksetra) He explained the mystic philosophy of the Gita to the sun-god
- In this verse (BG 4.5) it is understood that some millions of years ago when Lord Krsna spoke the Bhagavad-gita to the sun-god Vivasvan, Arjuna, in a different capacity, was also present. BG 1972 purports
- It (Bhagavad-gita) is perfect knowledge that was taught by Lord Krsna to Arjuna on the battlefield of Kuruksetra, and we receive information from it that in previous ages Sri Krsna also taught it to the sun-god Vivasvan
- It (the knowledge of Bhagavad-gita which is given by Krsna to sun-god Vivasvan) was handed down from time immemorial from Vivasvan by disciplic succession
- It is understood that some millions of years ago when Lord Krsna spoke the Bhagavad-gita to the sun-god Vivasvan, Arjuna, in a different capacity, was also present
K
- Krsna says that "I spoke to sun-god." So by hearing this sruti, we understand that there is also life and there is also system, the government, the chief executive
- Krsna says that millions of years before He spoke this yoga to the sun-god, and we do not know how many millions of years before that He spoke it to someone else
- Krsna says that, "This philosophy of Bhagavad-gita I spoke to the sun-god, some forty millions of years ago." How He remembers? Because He does not change His body. This is simple fact
- Krsna says: "I instructed this imperishable science of yoga to the sun-god, Vivasvan, and Vivasvan instructed it to Manu, the father of mankind, and Manu in turn instructed it to Iksvaku." This is the process of disciplic succession
- Krsna selected Arjuna: "My dear Arjuna, I shall speak to you the whole philosophy which I instructed to sun-god." "Why You are prepared to instruct me?" Krsna says, bhakto 'si, - Because you are My devotee
- Krsna, accompanied by Uddhava and Satyaki, would ride on the chariot just as the sun-god rides on his chariot in the morning, appearing with his blazing rays on the surface of the world
L
- Lord Krsna confirms in the Bhagavad-gita (BG 4.1): The Supreme Lord said, 'I instructed this imperishable science of yoga to the sun-god, Vivasvan, and Vivasvan instructed it to Manu, the father of mankind, and Manu in turn instructed it to Iksvaku
- Lord Krsna first spoke Bhagavad-gita to the sun-god some hundreds of millions of years ago. We have to accept this fact and thus understand the historical significance of Bhagavad-gita, without misinterpretation, on the authority of Krsna. BG 1972 Preface
M
- Manu: The Manu mentioned in this verse as the father of Iksvaku is the seventh Manu, of the name Vaivasvata Manu, the son of sun-god Vivasvan, to whom Lord Krsna instructed the teachings of Bhagavad-gita prior to His teaching them to Arjuna
- Mistaking Satrajit to be the sun-god, some of the important citizens of Dvaraka immediately went to Krsna to inform Him that the sun-god had arrived to see Him. At that time, Krsna was playing chess
- Mucukunda continued, "Are You (Krsna) not the original source of all illumination and fire? Can I consider You one of the great demigods, like the sun-god, the moon-god or Indra, King of heaven? Or are You the predominating deity of some other planet"
O
- Of course, Arjuna knew everything, but for our education he said to Krsna, - Krsna, we are contemporaries, and since we were born at practically the same time, how can I believe that You spoke this philosophy so long ago to the sun-god
- One may say that Krsna, according to Mahabharata, lived 5,000 years ago, and this being the case, there is no possibility of His having spoken Bhagavad-gita to the sun god so many millions of years before
- Otherwise, how could He (Krsna) remember that He first taught the yoga system of the Bhagavad-gita to the sun-god, Vivasvan? Therefore, He never dies. Nor does He ever become an old man
S
- Sa kaleneha mahata yogo nastah parantapa: My dear Arjuna, oh, you are the great hero. Now, that Bhagavad-gita, the instruction which I (Krsna) imparted to the sun-god, was coming by disciplic succession, now it is lost
- Simple meaning is that if Krsna instructed the sun-god, Vivasvan, then He went there as He comes here. That is natural conclusion
T
- That original spiritual disciplic succession (coming from Krsna to the sun-god) was broken, but now we can receive the same message by studying Bhagavad-gita. In Bhagavad-gita Krsna speaks to Arjuna just as in a far distant time He spoke to the sun-god
- The comparison is made herein (SB 1.11.4-5) that making offerings to the Lord is something like offering a lamp in the worship of the sun-god
- The demigods in the higher planets - Lord Brahma, Indra, Candra, the sun-god and various other demigods - are all Krsna conscious
- The eternal position of Krsna is revealed in Bhagavad-gita. There Krsna said to Arjuna, "In the past, millions of years ago, I spoke this philosophy of Bhagavad-gita to the sun-god." Arjuna appeared not to believe this
- The Gita is coming down in disciplic succession: - I first of all instructed this yoga system to the sun-god Vivasvan, who taught it to Manu, who taught it to Iksvaku
- They (foolish men) cannot understand that Krsna spoke this Bhagavad-gita millions of years ago to the sun-god. We immediately say: "Oh, these are all story." But it is not story. It is fact
- This knowledge (which Krsna spoke to sun-god) is always being repeated, just as summer, autumn, winter and spring are repeated every year
- Time, it may be any time, but the knowledge is eternal. Just like Krsna spoke five thousand years ago to Arjuna and some forty millions of years ago to the sun god. So time is different
W
- When Krsna spoke Bhagavad-gita to the sun god, Arjuna was also present with Him. But, being a finite living entity, Arjuna could not remember
- When Satrajit wore this jewel in a locket around his neck, he appeared exactly like an imitation sun-god. Putting on this jewel, he entered the city of Dvaraka, and people thought that the sun-god had come into the city to see Krsna
- When the sunrise became visible, Lord Krsna would offer specific prayers to the sun-god
- When the Supreme Personality of Godhead appeared as Lord Ramacandra, He (Krsna) appeared in the family descending from the sun-god, known as the Raghu-vamsa; and when He appeared as Lord Krsna, He did so in the family known as the Yadu-vamsa
- Whether we believe that Krsna spoke Bhagavad-gita to the sun-god or not, this fact is being accepted by Arjuna
