Conversations and Morning Walks

1975 Conversations and Morning Walks

Morning Walk -- May 8, 1975, Perth:

Gaṇeśa: Why don't the people revolt if they're so unhappy?

Prabhupāda: Yes, they are revolting, but they are now so much suppressed they cannot... Sometimes there is revolt. Sometimes there is upheaval.

Paramahaṁsa: Not a big upheaval because they are terrorized. They are afraid that if they revolt, then they...

Prabhupāda: They will be killed.

Paramahaṁsa: Yeah, the government will come out and just shoot them all.

Prabhupāda: Yes, all the Leninists and Stalinists, they kill. It is a country of terrorism. That's all. The government men, they are simply terrorists. That's all.

Paramahaṁsa: Just like in Cambodia they just, the new Communist government, they executed tens and thousands of people just recently.

Prabhupāda: Just see.

Paramahaṁsa: People who were working for the old government. They just killed them all. So this what the people are afraid of.

Prabhupāda: Yes. Terrorism. This Communism means terrorism.

Morning Walk -- May 16, 1975, Perth:

Amogha: When we came over here, we stayed in a hotel before we found the house about ten days ago. And when we came to the motel, the lady said, "Oh, someone has left this book here." And she gave us a Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. (pause) Yesterday the United States attacked and sank three Cambodian boats. They are fighting because the Cambodian Communists, the new government, captured one United States freighter. So now they are beginning to try to take it back. (pause) The bus is empty again.

Prabhupāda: A very good bus.

Paramahaṁsa: Practically every one of these cars only has one person in it.

Devotee (1): So actually, they have not advanced technologically from the civilizations of Rāvaṇa's time?

Prabhupāda: That is not civilization. Technological advancement is not civilization. It is the advancement of ugra knowledge. Real civilization is to advance in Brahman knowledge. If there are brāhmaṇas, that is advancement. This is not advancement because they do not know what is advancement. They have no knowledge that "I have to die, and I have to accept another body after death." They do not know it. So long this body is there, they are trying to have very comfortable position. But they do not know that after this body, he has to accept another body. So how this technology will help him? If, in this life, by technological advancement you live very comfortably, and next life you become a dog, then where is the advancement? That they do not know. Suppose... We have got visa for two weeks?

Paramahaṁsa: Three weeks.

Morning Walk -- June 10, 1975, Honolulu:

Prabhupāda: ...is very nice.

Siddha-svarūpa: Oh. (break)

Prabhupāda: ...movement, then that is nice.

Siddha-svarūpa: Yes, They, the mystic yogis... (break) ...Cambodia and Vietnam. Now Cambodia and Vietnam are fighting.

Prabhupāda: Ācchā? Why?

Siddha-svarūpa: Over the oil on the offshore. There is offshore oil. The oil that the United Stated wanted. Now these two are fighting off some islands that are... There's a wars... Wars are... (break)

Prabhupāda: Simply rogues. (break) There is light engaged. (break) They understood. Because when Kaṁsa was baffled in killing the children of his sister, he regretted that "I have killed so many children of you, my dear sister. I am awaiting the most abominable hellish conditions." He admitted.

1976 Conversations and Morning Walks

Morning Walk -- March 17, 1976, Mayapura:

Prabhupāda: From the face.

Madhudviṣa: Just like the Manipur people come sometimes.

Prabhupāda: Yes. It is same stock.

Madhudviṣa: Yes.

Prabhupāda: Manipur, Chinese, Cambodian stock. (break) Many Chinese, for culture. I know. All came.

Pañca-draviḍa: Śrīla Prabhupāda, if they invite you to China, you'll go?

Prabhupāda: Oh, yes, certainly. I can go immediately. I have no objection.

Pañca-draviḍa: (break) Everyone was chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa and saying...

Prabhupāda: Crowd also?

Pañca-draviḍa: Yeah, the crowd here.... There was practically.... I didn't see any incidents of anybody doing anything wrong or trying to cause trouble.

Prabhupāda: Oh, yes.

Room Conversation -- May 7, 1976, Honolulu:

Prabhupāda: Stalin is calculated to be greatest criminal in the world. He has killed so many men. All rogues. We were taken through the neighborhood of all aristocratic men who were killed in the revolution.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: While reading about China, one of the books I was reading also described Cambodia, Vietnam and Korea. And the recent histories of these countries are so horrible, that the... Mostly in that part of the world now they have become totally anti-American. They are very, very anti-American because of what the Ameri... The Americans have simply gone there and...

Guru-kṛpā: Not Korea.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: Huh?

Prabhupāda: (indistinct)

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: North Koreans don't love Americans.

Guru-kṛpā: No, not north Koreans, South Koreans.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: But now Korea is united.

Guru-kṛpā: No.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: Oh, yes, I've been reading, they hate the Americans in North Korea.

Guru-kṛpā: Trivikrama has left Korea now, he went to... He's left. He's in Japan.

Prabhupāda: Oh. He could not do anything?

Guru-kṛpā: I don't know, he has left there. He went for 3 weeks and left.
