Srimad-Bhagavatam

SB Canto 4

The word yantra means "carriage."
SB 4.26.1-3, Purport:

The word yantra means "carriage." The body is given by material nature, and the driver of that body is Paramātmā, the Supersoul. The living entity is seated within the chariot. This is the actual position.

SB Canto 6

Yantra means a machine, such as an automobile.
SB 6.1.31, Purport:

"The Supreme Lord is situated in everyone's heart, O Arjuna, and is directing the wanderings of all living entities, who are seated as on a machine, made of the material energy." Yantra means a machine, such as an automobile. The driver of the machine of the body is the individual soul, who is also its director or proprietor, but the supreme proprietor is the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

Lectures

Bhagavad-gita As It Is Lectures

Yantra means machine.
Lecture on BG 2.15 -- Mexico, February 15, 1975:

Yantra means machine. So just like in our car we can travel here and there, similarly, on this machine of body we can go anywhere.

Kṛṣṇa is supplying these toy bodies Yantra, yantra means machine.
Lecture on BG 2.21-22 -- London, August 26, 1973:

Kṛṣṇa knows your desire, that if you want still to enjoy this material world, "All right, enjoy." So for enjoying different kinds of enjoyment, we require different kinds of instrument. So Kṛṣṇa prepares you, so kind, "All right." Just like the father gives a toy, the child wants a motorcar. "All right, take a toy motorcar." He wants a engine, he wants to become a railway man. Now these kinds of toys were(?) there. Similarly Kṛṣṇa is supplying these toy bodies Yantra, yantra means machine. This is a machine. Everyone understands this is a machine.

Lecture on BG 13.1-2 -- Miami, February 25, 1975:

Yantra means machine. So we are seated on this machine. This is the knowledge.

Srimad-Bhagavatam Lectures

This body is a yantra, car, mechanical car.
Lecture on SB 1.2.6 -- New Vrindaban, September 5, 1972:

I am not this body. This is a vehicle. Just like we ride on a car, drive car, so I am not this car. Similarly, this is a yantra, car, mechanical car. Kṛṣṇa or God has given me this car, I wanted it.

Yantra means car or machine.
Lecture on SB 1.15.31 -- Los Angeles, December 9, 1973:

So īśvara, the Supreme Lord, is there. Now He's giving chance, "You living entity, you did not surrender to Me. You wanted to enjoy this material world. So you take this chariot and take this driver and go on." This is going on. Kṛṣṇa is very kind. Ye yathā māṁ prapadyante (BG 4.11). "Whatever you want, you do it. But you'll never be happy." That is the point. "You can do whatever. I will give you chance. I'll give you." Just like you want a Rolls Royce car. "All right, it is." If you want this car, "All right." So you are changing this car. Sometimes you are carried by the doggish cars, sometimes goddish car. These are all cars, but we are different from the car. We wanted to sit down in a certain car, so Kṛṣṇa is giving us the chance. Bhrāmayan sarva-bhūtāni yantrārūḍhāni (BG 18.61). Yantra means car or machine.

General Lectures

Yantra means just like carriage, a machine.
Lecture at Krsna Niketan -- Gorakhpur, February 16, 1971:

Just like you are sitting on a carriage, and the driver is taking you anywhere he likes. You are just like that. There is no control how you are being taken. Yantrārūḍhāni. Yantra means just like carriage, a machine. You are sitting on a machine, and under the direction of the Lord, Īśvara.

Yantra means machine.
City Hall Lecture -- Durban, October 7, 1975:

Yantra means machine. So Kṛṣṇa is situated in everyone's heart. That is all-pervading. And He knows what the soul wants, so He is given the opportunity. As he wants to work, he is given a particular type of body, machine, yantra. Yantra means machine. And he is seated there, and in this way he is wandering in different species of life and different planets for different times.

Conversations and Morning Walks

1975 Conversations and Morning Walks

Room Conversation with Dr. John Mize -- June 23, 1975, Los Angeles:

Prabhupāda: Yantra means machine. So the modern education is missing the pilot. They are simply wandering with the machine.

Yantra means machine.
Morning Walk -- July 2, 1975, Denver:

Prabhupāda: Bhayaṁ dvitīyābhiniveśataḥ syāt. Everyone, animal up to the king of heaven—always fearful. Ahara-nidra-bhaya-maithunaṁ ca. So fearfulness is one of the qualification of conditioned soul. Yesterday you were putting forward the logic, "Machine." Machine, we also accept. In Bhagavad-gītā it is mentioned, this body is machine, yantra. Yantra means machine. So at the same time, you said, "Growing." Do you grow machine Ford car?
