- A devotee sometimes takes the risk of approaching nondevotee rascals even at the cost of life. The best example is your Christian religion's Lord Jesus Christ
- A pure devotee of Narayana is never afraid of any material danger. There are many examples of devotees such as Prahlada Maharaja, who was tortured by his father but was not at all afraid, although he was only a five-year-old boy
- A saintly devotee is certainly very tolerant. He is the friend of all living entities, and he does not create enemies within the world. A pure devotee has all the qualities of a sadhu. Jada Bharata is an example of this
- A Vaisnava should follow the examples of such Vaisnavas as Haridasa Thakura, Nityananda Prabhu and also Lord Jesus Christ. There is no need to kill anyone who has already been killed
- Advaita Acarya set an ideal example for all householder devotees in His reception of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu and His devotees and in His execution of a daily festival at His home
- Although Citraketu provided one example of tolerance and excellence, all the devotees who have taken shelter of the Lord as eternal servants are glorious. They have no eagerness to be happy by being placed in the heavenly planets
- Ambarisa Maharaja is an example. He fixed his mind on the lotus feet of the Lord, he spoke only on the pastimes of the Lord, he smelled only the flowers and tulasi offered to the Lord, he walked only to the temple of the Lord
- An example of a pure devotee is Lord Jesus Christ, who agreed to be mercilessly crucified rather than give up preaching on behalf of God. He was never prepared to compromise on the issue of believing in God
- An example of tad-ekatma-rupa (the Lord Himself) is Sesa, and an example of a devotee is Vasudeva, the father of Lord Krsna
- As a devotee, Vidura showed by example that anywhere that Krsna is not honored is a place unfit for human habitation
B
- Both Indra & Prthu were envious and angry with each other, but since both of them were Vaisnavas, or servants of Lord Visnu, it was their duty to adjust the cause of their envy. This is also a first-class example of cooperative behavior between Vaisnavas
- By his personal example, Narottama dasa Thakura stresses that a devotee must always remember to please his predecessor acarya
D
- Desiring to exhibit the symptoms of a pure devotee, the Lord tried to induce Prahlada Maharaja to take material benedictions, but Prahlada Maharaja did not accept them. On the contrary, by his personal example he showed the symptoms of a pure devotee
- Dhruva Maharaja's leaving home at a tender age and taking shelter of the Supreme Personality of Godhead in the forest is a unique example in this world
E
- Even if one falls down due to immaturity or bad association, his devotional assets are never lost. There are many examples of this - Ajamila, Maharaja Bharata, and many others
- Everyone should follow the example of the Pandavas, who showed how to be saved by the grace of Krsna
- Examples of devotees in the second stage, the dasya stage of servitorship, are Raktaka, Citraka and Patraka in the Gokula rasa. These all function as servants of Krsna. In Dvaraka there is Daruka, and in the Vaikuntha planets there are Hanuman and others
- Examples of santa-bhaktas are the nine Yogendras and the four Kumaras. Examples of devotees in dasya-bhakti are innumerable, for such devotees exist everywhere
- Examples of such devotees (who may not have undergone all the required details of bhakti but who, by the special mercy of guru and Krsna have immediately attained the perfection of bhakti) are the yajna-patnis, Maharaja Bali and Sukadeva Gosvami
F
- Following the example of the gopis, the devotees sometimes worship the goddess Katyayani, but they understand that Katyayani is an incarnation of Yogamaya
- Following the examples of Ambarisa Maharaja and Prahlada Maharaja, a devotee should learn how to tolerate all such awkward positions in this world
- Foolish people adore such men who die in national consciousness, but here is an example of Maharaja Yudhisthira, a royal king who prepared himself to leave this world without such national consciousness. And yet he is remembered even today
H
- Haridasa Thakura, being the acarya of chanting the Hare Krsna maha-mantra, is called Namacarya Haridasa Thakura. From his personal example we can understand that chanting the Hare Krsna and becoming highly elevated in Krsna consciousness is very simple
- He (Lord Jesus Christ) was threatened with death punishment. He was crucified. Still, he was convinced his relationship with God. Here is a devotee, example of devotee
- He (Siva) is very great & his renunciation of all material enjoyment is an ideal example of how one should be materially unattached. One should therefore follow his footsteps & be unattached to matter, not imitate his uncommon acts like drinking poison
I
- In any assembly where there are discourses about saints and devotees, O King Yudhisthira, even the enemies of the demons, namely the demigods, what to speak of you, would cite Prahlada Maharaja as an example of a great devotee
- In India also there are many examples of devotees risking their lives for the spreading of God consciousness, such as Thakur Haridasa. Why such risk? Because they wanted to spread Krsna consciousness, and it is difficult. BG 1972 purports
- In our disciplic line we have the example of a perfect householder paramahamsa - Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura
- In spite of coming to this material world, the nitya-siddha devotee is never attracted by the allurements of material enjoyment. A perfect example is Prahlada Maharaja, who was a nitya-siddha, a maha-bhagavata devotee
- It appears that the Personality of Godhead, Lord Siva and other devotees, in spite of their being situated in exalted positions, instructed by practical example how to offer obeisances to their superiors
- It is my ambition that Indian Vaisnavas may contribute at least one pair of Murtis, following your nice example, and we can establish them in each and every center of our Society
- It is not that only sannyasis, vanaprasthas and brahmacaris can reach Krsna. A grhastha, a householder, can also reach Krsna, provided he becomes a pure devotee without material desires. An example of this is cited in the next verse - SB 7.15.68
- It may appear that a devotee of the Lord is becoming poorer and poorer in terms of material prosperity, but factually he is not. The typical example is the Pandavas
K
- King Pariksit affords a good example of bhava. When sitting on the banks of the Ganges waiting to meet his death, he said: "All the brahmanas present here, as well as Mother Ganges, should know that I am a soul completely surrendered to Krsna"
- Kunti did not accept this proposal at first, but when vivid examples were set by Pandu she agreed. Thus by dint of the mantra awarded by Durvasa Muni she called for Dharmaraja, and thus Yudhisthira was born
M
- Mother Yasoda did not care to understand who Krsna was and how His power spreads everywhere. This is an example of pure love for Krsna
- Murari Gupta could treat both bodily and spiritual disease because he was a physician by profession and a great devotee of the Lord in terms of spiritual advancement. This is an example of service to humanity
O
- Of the twelve authorized devotees - Lord Brahma, Narada, Lord Siva, Kapila, Manu and so on - Prahlada Maharaja is understood to be the best example
- One class of transcendentalists is called impersonalistic, Mayavadi. They are generally known as Vedantists, led by Sankaracarya. And there is another class of transcendentalists, called Vaisnavas, like Ramanujacarya, Madhvacarya, Visnu Svami
- One may also be liberated simply by sakhya, friendly behavior with the Lord. Such is the power of devotional service, as we learn from the examples set by the Lord's many pure devotees
- One of the example is the opulence of Sudama Vipra. Sudama Vipra suffered severe material scarcity, but he was not disturbed and did not deviate from devotional service. Thus he was ultimately given an exalted position by the mercy of Lord Krsna
- One should join the Krsna consciousness movement, following the examples of such great personalities as Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, the six Gosvamis and, before them, the great sage Dadhici. Instead of wasting one's life for temporary bodily comforts
- One should not be attached to any materialistic activities, but a devotee may perform such activities as an example to show the common man that one should not deviate from the Vedic injunctions
P
- Prahlada Maharaja is a vivid example of a pure devotee. Someone might argue that since Prahlada Maharaja, even though very old, was attached to his family, and specifically to his grandson Bali Maharaja, how could he be an ideal example?
- Prahlada Maharaja is the topmost example of a Vaisnava, who is always compassionate toward sinful persons suffering a hellish life within this material world
- Prahlada Maharaja, by his living example, requested his friends to engage in devotional service
S
- Sri Krsnadasa Kaviraja Gosvami sets the example (in CC Adi 10.7) of offering obeisances to all the preacher devotees of Lord Caitanya, without distinction as to higher and lower
- Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura has said that a Vaisnava is he who has helped others become Vaisnavas. An example of one who has converted many others into Vaisnavas is Narada Muni
- Srila Narada Muni is giving a practical example from his past life. Formerly, during the previous lifetime of Lord Brahma, Narada Muni was one of the denizens of Gandharvaloka
T
- The best examples of such devotees (Sevanistha) are Lord Siva, King Indra, King Bahulasva, King Iksvaku, Srutadeva and Pundarika
- The example of Dhruva Maharaja is that he engaged himself in devotional service to the Lord according to the order of his spiritual master, Narada Muni
- The four Kumaras (Sanaka, Sanandana, Sanatkumara and Sanatana) are also examples of this stage - of santa-bhaktas, or devotees in the neutral stage
- The perfection of any activity - social, political, religious or philanthropic - is to satisfy the Supreme Lord
- The Supreme Personality of Godhead gives credit to a devotee who performs any heavy task perfectly. Hanumanji, or Vajrangaji, the servant of Lord Ramacandra, serves as an example
- The Supreme Personality of Godhead nonetheless advised Prahlada Maharaja to follow the regulative principles (even though he has fully surrendered to the lotus of the Lord), for since he was going to be the king, others would follow his example
- The symptoms of a devotee are meekness and humility. Although spiritually very advanced, he will always remain meek and humble, as Kaviraja Gosvami and all the other Vaisnavas have taught us by personal example
- The vivid example is Maharaja Ambarisa. He was the emperor of the entire world and had many duties to perform, and in the course of these duties there were many disturbances created by persons like Durvasa Muni, but the King tolerated everything
- Their (Devotees) example is that just as the stomach is the source of energy of all the limbs of the body, God is the original source of all energy manifested in the material and spiritual worlds
- There are also examples of devotees who discharged all the different items together
- There are many examples in history of devotees who risked their lives for the spreading of God consciousness. The favorite example is Lord Jesus Christ. He was crucified by the nondevotees, but he sacrificed his life for spreading God consciousness
- There are many good examples in the lives of the great devotees of the Lord of those who became indifferent to the rituals of the Vedas simply by devotional service to the Lord. BG 1972 purports
- These (Lord Jesus Christ, Thakura Haridasa and Prahlada Maharaja) are some examples of renowned devotees of the Lord, and we should simply try to understand how dear such devotees are to Him
- This example (of how a householder should spend his earnings) was shown by Rupa Gosvami, so devotees should follow it
- This is an example of how a devotee can become inert due to ecstatic love
- This is the example shown here (in SB 10.9.10) by mother Yasoda - that the yogis and jnanis cannot enter that effulgence of Krsna even after many, many years of austerities, whereas bhaktas can capture Krsna simply by love and affection
W
- We can see this to be true (considering dangerous conditions to be an opportunity to pray to the Lord and offer thanks) from the example of Gajendra, who anxiously prayed to the Lord and thus received an immediate chance to return home, back to Godhead
- We don't want these Vaisnavas, sitting down rascals; we want Arjuna or we want no one
- We find the behavior of Rupa Gosvami to be exemplary; he gave fifty percent of his wealth for spiritual purposes. This should serve as an example for everyone
- We have already seen an example of this (inattention) in the case of Maharaja Bharata
