- A person in the mode of ignorance commits many sinful activities. In the Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu, Srila Rupa Gosvami explains that a man becomes sinful out of ignorance only. The resultant effect of sinful life is suffering
- According to Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu (NOD 1.2.270), "Devotional service with ecstatic attachment for that service, which becomes natural for the devotee, is called raga, or transcendental attachment"
- According to Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu, the science of devotional service, one should not eat more than what he requires to maintain body and soul together
- According to BRS, the science of DS: adau sraddha tatah sadhu-sango 'tha bhajana-kriya, tato 'nartha-nivrttih syat tato nistha rucis tatah, athasaktis tato bhavas tatah premabhyudancati, sadhakanam ayam premnah pradurbhave bhavet kramah. BG 1972 purports
- According to Caitanya Mahaprabhu, Rupa Gosvami in his Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu, Narada Muni in the Narada Pancaratra and Bhagavan Sri Krsna in Bhagavad-gita, a pure devotee never wants anything from the Lord
- Actually going to Vrndavana involves taking shelter of the Six Gosvamis by reading the Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu, Vidagdha-madhava, Lalita-madhava and the other books that they have given
- Adau sraddha tatah sadhu-sangah (Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu 1.4.15). Spiritual life begins, first of all, sraddha, some faith. Just like you are coming here, kindly, to hear me. You have got little faith. This is the beginning
- All of this (the truth of Krsna, the principles of devotional service & the transcendental relationships with Krsna) was described in full detail so that in the future Rupa Gosvami could distribute this science of Krsna in his book Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu
- Anyabhilasita-sunyam jnana-karmady-anavrtam (Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu 1.1.11). Bhakti is uncontaminated, being unalloyed even by jnana or pious activities
- As far as our information goes, Srila Jiva Gosvami composed and edited at least twenty-five books. They are all very much celebrated, and they are listed as follows: (11) a commentary on the Brahma-samhita, (12) a commentary on the Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu
- As in the ocean there are always different waves, either on the eastern side, the western side, the northern side or the southern side, so similarly Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu has different waves
- As stated in Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu: Krsna is the reservoir of all pleasures, and He is always attracting the gopis by the spiritual luster of His body. He especially attracts Taraka, Pali, Syama, and Lalita
- As we have already quoted above from the Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu of Rupa Gosvami, even mundane things, if dovetailed in the service of the Lord Sri Krsna, are accepted as transcendental
- Authority of Bhakti rasamrta sindhu
B
- Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu (NOD 1.2.156): "O lotus-eyed one, when will I be able to always chant Your holy name, and being inspired by that chanting, when will I be able to dance on the banks of the Yamuna?"
- Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu (NOD 1.3.38) in which Rupa Gosvami states: "O Govinda! This young girl with tears in her eyes is crying in a sweet voice, chanting Your glories"
- Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu 1.2.187, "A person acting in the service of Krsna with his body, mind and words is a liberated person, even within the material world." Therefore, one is forbidden to regard the guru as an ordinary human being
- Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu 1.2.234: "No one can understand Krsna as He is by the blunt material senses. But He reveals Himself to the devotees, being pleased with them for their transcendental loving service unto Him"
- Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu by Rupa Gosvami which we have translated by the name, Nectar of Devotion, the Complete Science, the Complete Science of Bhakti-yoga, this is very important book of understanding how to become purified in devotional service
- Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu has given considerable discussion about nitya-siddha and sadhana-siddha devotees. Nitya-siddha devotees come from Vaikuntha to this material world to teach, by their personal example, how to become a devotee
- Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu is divided into four parts, just as the ocean is sometimes divided into four parts, and there are different sections within each of these four divisions
- Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu, The Nectar of Devotion, is the actual science of bhakti. Bhakti is not sentiment; it is a great science, and we have to learn it scientifically
- Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu, which is also considered smrti, explains: sruti-smrti-puranadi (Brs. 1.2.101) - the great devotees heed both the srutis and the smrtis
- BRS 01.02.255 nirbandhah krsna-sambandhe ... - cited (Conversations)
- By Krsna's will, I am now residing at the Los Angeles temple of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness. This purport (on Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu) is finished today, the 30th of June, 1969
- By rough calculation it is estimated that Srila Rupa Gosvami finished Sri Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu in Gokula Vrndavana in the year 1552

- First of all one has to accept a bona fide spiritual master. This is advocated by Srila Rupa Gosvami in his Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu: sri-guru-padasrayah. To be freed from the entanglement of the material world, one has to approach a spiritual master
- First thing is, first business, is to accept a bona fide guru. Otherwise there is no devotion. It is simply false imitation. This is the injunction of Rupa Gosvami in Bhakti-rasamrta sindhu
- For a Vaisnava, acceptance of sannyasa means getting relief from all material activities and completely devoting oneself to the transcendental loving service of the Lord. This is confirmed by Srila Rupa Gosvami - Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu 1.2.255
- Formerly whatever is given under Vedic evidence, people will accept all it is correct. Therefore nana-sastra-vicaranaika. They used to collect all the Vedic references and put into the Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu to establish that bhagavad-bhakti
H
- He (Srila Rupa Gosvami) clearly mentions in this verse (Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu 1.2.101) that one must refer to the Vedic literatures and other, supplementary literatures and follow the conclusion of the Vedas
- Here we are teaching our students, not abruptly say that "You have learned." We are teaching them Bhagavad-gita, Srimad-Bhagavatam, Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu, so many books
- His (Rupa Gosvami's) famous book Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu is the science of devotional service, and by reading this book one can understand the meaning of devotional service
- His (Rupa Gosvami's) first book is Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu, the ocean of . . . Nectar of Devotion. That is very authorized book
- How one can execute God-centered activities is elaborately explained in the Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu, by Srila Rupa Gosvami
I
- I want to sit down there in the Sri Radha Damodara Temple until some time near the end of November. I will lecture daily in the courtyard on the Bhakti Rasamrita Sindhu, especially for the benefit of the devotees
- If in accordance with one’s own natural development in Krsna consciousness one’s attraction leans toward conjugal love within the heart, that is called attachment in conjugal love, or madhura-rasa - Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu 3.5.1
- If multiplied billions of times, the transcendental pleasure derived from impersonal Brahman realization still could not compare to even an atomic portion of the ocean of bhakti, or transcendental service - Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu 1.1.38
- In Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu (1.2.101) Rupa Gosvami has stated that devotional service that makes no reference to Vedic scriptures or Vedic literatures and that does not follow the principles set forth therein can never be approved
- In Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu (NOD 1.2.308), Rupa Gosvami offers his respectful obeisances to those who always think of Krsna as He is, and His relation as son, well-wisher, brother, father, friend, etc
- In Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu it is stated:. By His impudent and daring talks about sex indulgence, Krsna obliged Srimati Radharani to close Her eyes, and taking advantage of this, Krsna painted many pictures on Her breasts
- In Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu, Rupa Gosvami has analyzed the characteristics of Bhagavan. The first Bhagavan is Sri Krsna Himself, but some of His opulences are also bestowed upon Lord Brahma
- In Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu, Srila Rupa Gosvami thus instructs that if one's only desire is service to the Lord, he is liberated in any condition of life
- In our Krsna consciousness movement we have therefore limited our study of the Vedic literatures to the Bhagavad-gita, Srimad-Bhagavatam, Caitanya-caritamrta and Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu. These four works are sufficient for preaching purposes
- In the Bhakti-Rasamrita-Sindhu it is enjoined by Srila Rupa Goswami that any work, either prescribed in the Vedas or ordinary mundane activities, if the target is to satisfy Krishna, then everything is devotional service
- In the Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu it is said that although one who has a sincere desire to render loving service to the Supreme Lord is situated in the conditional state of material existence, he is to be considered liberated. BG 1972 purports
- In the Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu it is said that when Lord Krsna was blowing His conchshell known as Pancajanya many great sages who were living in the caves of the mountains immediately reacted, being awakened from their trance of meditation
- In the Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu it is stated that all those who attended the pious meeting held by Lord Brahma for the study of Vedic literature like the Upanisads became overwhelmed with ecstatic love for Krsna, the chief of the Yadu dynasty
- In the Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu thirty-three such destructive symptoms (as dainya, nirveda, Visada etc.) are mentioned. They are expressed in words, in the eyebrows and in the eyes. These symptoms are called vyabhicari bhava, destructive ecstasy
- In the Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu, love of Godhead is compared to sunshine, and this shining makes the devotee's heart more and more lovely. The heart of such a devotee is situated in a transcendental position, beyond even the material mode of goodness
- In the Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu, Srila Rupa Gosvami states: The glorification of these five items (association with devotees, chanting the holy name and so on) is to make known the complete superiority of these five practices of devotional service
- In the Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu, the transcendental qualities of Sri Krsna are mentioned. Among these, fifty are primary (ayam neta su-ramyangah, etc.), and in minute quantity they were all present in the body of Sri Haridasa Pandita
- In the BRS (1.2.108), it is said: The bare necessities of life must be accepted, but one shouldn't superfluously increase his necessities. Nor should they be unnecessarily decreased. One should simply accept what is necessary to help advance spiritually
- In the material world there is attachment for material enjoyment, but this is not rati. Transcendental rati can be awakened only on the spiritual platform. Ecstatic love for Krsna (prema) is described in the Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu - 1.41
- In this division of Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu the author wants to describe the general symptoms of the transcendental mellow (loving mood) of discharging devotional service
- In this division of Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu there are five general topics: vibhava - special symptoms of ecstasy, anubhava - subsequent ecstasy, sattvika-bhava - constitutional ecstasy, vyabhicari-bhava- aggressive ecstasy & sthayi-bhava- fervent ecstasy
- In this regard (SB 8.19.40), Srila Rupa Gosvami says: "One who rejects things without knowledge of their relationship to Krsna is incomplete in his renunciation" - Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu 1.2.66
- In this second division of Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu the author offers his respectful obeisances unto "Sanatana." This Sanatana can be interpreted as either Sri Krsna Himself or as Sanatana Gosvami, the elder brother and spiritual master of Rupa Gosvami
- In this way (by taking shelter of the six Gosvamis by reading the Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu, Vidagdha-madhava, Lalita-madhava and the other books) one can understand the transcendental loving affairs between Radha and Krsna
- Instead of desiring to have the Lord come here and become one's son, one should desire to become free from all material desires (anyabhilasita-sunyam (Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu 1.1.11)) and go back home, back to Godhead
- It (BRS) was finished in the year 1463 Sakabda (A.D. 1541). This book is divided into four parts: purva-vibhaga - eastern division, daksina-vibhaga - southern division, pascima-vibhaga - western division and uttara-vibhaga - northern division

- Krsnadasa Kaviraja Gosvami was not actually a direct disciple of Srila Rupa Gosvami, but he followed the instructions given by Rupa Gosvami in the BRS. He therefore acted according to the directions of Rupa Gosvami & prayed in every chapter for his mercy
L
- Later he (Bilvamangala Thakura) became a devotee of Lord Krsna, and his explanation for this change is given in a verse (text 178) that is quoted in the Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu
- Let me offer my respectful obeisances unto the lotus feet of Srila Rupa Gosvami Prabhupada and of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Gosvami, by whose inspiration I have been engaged in the matter of compiling this summary study of Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu
