- After his (Karna's) birth from the maiden Kunti, he was thrown in the Ganges. Later he was picked up by Adhiratha, and he and his wife Radha brought him up as their own offspring
- All the commanders on the Battlefield of Kuruksetra were maha-rathas. Many of them are mentioned in Bhagavad-gita. Bhisma, Karna, and Dronacarya were especially great commanders
- All the commanders there in the battlefield of Kuruksetra were maha-ratha. They are described in the Bhagavad-gita. Especially Bhisma and Karna, Dronacarya, they were very, very great commanders. Still, Arjuna could kill them by the grace of Krsna
- Alone, Samba turned toward them (Karna, Sala, Bhuri, Yajnaketu, Duryodhana and Bhismadeva) and took his nice bow, posing exactly as a lion stands adamant in the face of other animals. Karna, leading the party, challenged Samba
- Arjuna sees that the leaders of the opposite party (Bhisma, Drona, Karna and all the sons of Dhrtarastra) & their soldiers & Arjuna's soldiers are all being annihilated. This is an indication that Arjuna will emerge victorious in battle. BG 1972 purports
- As a result of this couplement, she (Prtha) became pregnant, and Karna was born by her. By the grace of the sun, she again turned into a virgin girl, but being afraid of her parents, she quitted the newly born child, Karna
- At that time (Draupadi's svayamvara) it was not known that Karna was a ksatriya. He was born the son of Kunti before her marriage, but that was a secret
D
- Danam isvara-bhavah. On one hand, ksatriyas have the propensity to rule, but on the other they are very liberal with charity. When Maharaja Yudhisthira gave charity, he engaged Karna to take charge of distributing it. Karna was very famous as Data Karna
- Dhrtarastra did not act in accordance with the good instructions given by Bhisma and Vidura; instead, he was being conducted by the ill instructions of such persons as Karna and Sakuni
- Dhrtarastra was hopeful of the victory of his sons, assisted by great warriors like Bhisma, Drona and Karna
- Draupadi took advantage of this (Karna known as sudra) by saying, "In this assembly, only ksatriyas may compete. I do not want any carpenter to come here and take part in the competition." In this way, Karna was excluded
- Duryodhana mentioned (in BG 1.8) the exceptional heroes in the battle, all of whom are ever-victorious (Bhisma, Karna, Krpa, Asvatthama, Vikarna and the son of Somadatta called Bhurisrava). BG 1972 purports
- Duryodhana said to Dronacarya: There are personalities like you, Bhisma, Karna, Krpa, Asvatthama, Vikarna and the son of Somadatta called Bhurisrava, who are always victorious in battle
- Duryodhana was bereft of his fortune and duration of life because of the intricacy of ill advice given by Karna, Duhsasana and Saubala
- Duryodhana was so foolish that he dared to insult Vidura. This was due to his bad association with Sakuni, his maternal uncle, as well as with his friend Karna, who always encouraged Duryodhana in his nefarious acts
H
- He (Karna) advised that "Make her (Draupadi) naked in this assembly." To become naked in the . . . so many people, that is a great insult for woman. So actually, they tried to insult. Not tried, it was fact. But Krsna saved
- He (Karna) always differed with Bhisma, and sometimes he was proud enough to say that within five days he could finish up the Pandavas, if Bhisma would not interfere with his plan of action. But he was much mortified when Bhisma died
- He (Karna) asked Draupadi to select another husband because, being lost by the Pandavas, she was rendered a slave of the Kurus. He was always an enemy of the Pandavas, and whenever there was an opportunity, he tried to curb them by all means
- He (Karna) killed Ghatotkaca with the Sakti weapon obtained from Indradeva
- He (Karna) was present in the great assembly of Draupadi's svayamvara function
- He (Samba) struck each of the six charioteers with six separate arrows. He used another four arrows to kill the charioteers' horses. Then he used one arrow to kill the driver and one arrow for Karna as well as the other celebrated fighters
- His (Dhrtarastra's) brother Pandu died also. Then in the Battlefield of Kuruksetra his one hundred sons and his grandsons all died, along with all other well-wishers like Bhismadeva, Dronacarya, Karna and many other kings and friends
- His (Karna's) son, Vrsasena, was killed by Arjuna. He killed the largest number of Pandava soldiers. At last there was a severe fight with Arjuna, and it was he only who was able to knock off the helmet of Arjuna
I
- I have already killed the great warriors - Bhisma, Drona, Jayadratha, Karna & many other great generals. Do not worry. Fight & be famous as a great hero." (BG 11.32-34) Krsna always wants to see His devotee as the hero of some episode which He performs
- In battlefield, it was a great ocean of fighting, and Bhisma, Drona, Karna, they were compared with big, big sharks, crocodiles in the ocean
- In the assembly for Draupadi's svayamvara, Karna was present. Draupadi's real purpose was to accept Arjuna as her husband, but Karna was there, and she knew that if he competed, Arjuna would not be able to succeed
- In the assembly of the princely order, when Dhrstadyumna, the brother of Draupadi, introduced all the princes to his grown-up sister, Karna was also present in the game
- In the beginning his (Karna's) name was Vasusena, but when he grew up he presented his natural bangles and earrings to Indradeva, and thenceforward he became known as Vaikartana
- In the same charitable spirit he (Karna) gave in charity his natural bangles and earrings to Indradeva, who, being very much satisfied with him, gave him in return a great weapon called Sakti
- It is mentioned here that Bhisma, who is supposed to be unconquerable, will also be smashed. So also Karna. Not only will the great warriors of the other party like Bhisma be smashed, but some of the great warriors of Arjuna's side also. BG 1972 purports
K
- Karna challenged Samba, "Why are you fleeing? Just stand, and we shall teach you a lesson!"
- Karna had been insulted during Draupadi's svayamvara. In those days a very qualified princess would select her own husband in a ceremony called a svayamvara
- Karna had been maintained by a carpenter, and therefore he was known as a sudra, a member of the lowest occupational division of society
- Karna regarded this as a great insult, and therefore when Draupadi was lost in the game, he was the first to come forward. He was Duryodhana's great friend, and he said, - Now we want to see the naked beauty of Draupadi
- Karna was refused to take part in the sporting, piercing the eyes of the fish, because Draupadi actually knew that "Arjuna is my real husband. So if Karna takes part in this sporting..." Karna was powerful. He would gain. But she did not like Karna
- Karna was very charitable, especially toward the brahmanas. There was nothing he could not spare for a brahmana
- Karna: Born of Kunti by the sun-god prior to her marriage with Maharaja Pandu, Karna took his birth with bangles and earrings, extraordinary signs for an undaunted hero
- Krsna is also a name of Draupadi, and so the word krsna-sakha also indicates Lord Krsna's relationship with Draupadi, whom He saved from being insulted when Duryodhana and Karna attempted to strip her naked
- Kunti also gave birth to a child before her marriage. That is Karna. That is Karna. So it was not very common affair, and in extraordinary cases it so happened
- Kuntidevi never forgot her first child, Karna, and after Karna's death in the Battle of Kuruksetra she lamented and admitted before her other sons that Karna was her eldest son prior to her marriage with Maharaja Pandu
L
- Laksmana said, "Heroes like Jarasandha, Ambastha, Sisupala, Bhimasena, Duryodhana and Karna were, of course, able to string the bow, but they could not pierce the fish, because it was covered, and they could not trace it out from the reflection"
- Lord Krsna continued to give His verdict to Arjuna: Do not think that the great generals like Duryodhana, Karna, and other contemporaries will think that you have left the battlefield out of compassion for your brothers and grandfather. BG 1972 purports
- Lord Krsna continued to give His verdict to Arjuna: They (Duryodhana, Karna, and other contemporaries) will think that you have left out of fear for your life. And thus their high estimation of your personality will go to hell. BG 1972 purports
O
- O King, the only son of Karna was Vrsasena. Druhyu, the third son of Yayati, had a son named Babhru, and the son of Babhru was known as Setu
- Of the six warriors (Karna, Sala, Bhuri, Yajnaketu, Duryodhana and Bhismadeva), four took care to kill Samba's four horses, one struck down his chariot driver, and one managed to cut the string of Samba's bow so that he could no longer fight with them
- On the Kaurava side there were many stalwart commanders like Bhisma, Drona, Krpa and Karna, and their military strength was as insurmountable as the great ocean
- One after another, he (Akrura) saw King Bahlika and his son Somadatta, Dronacarya, Krpacarya, Karna and Suyodhana. (Suyodhana is another name of Duryodhana)

- The elder members of the family, such as Bhisma, wanted to arrest him (Samba). Thus all the members of the Kuru dynasty, especially the great fighters, joined together just to teach him a lesson, and Karna was made the commander in chief
- The fighting was conducted in the ksatriya spirit, so all together (Karna, Sala, Bhuri, Yajnaketu, Duryodhana and Bhismadeva), although it was improper, they obliged Samba to get down from his chariot, now broken to pieces
- The Queen, the goddess of fortune Draupadi, was in charge of administering the distribution of food (during the Rajasuya Sacrifice), and because Karna was famous for giving charity, he was put in charge of the charity department
- The sons of Dhrtarastra along with their allied kings, & Bhisma, Drona & Karna, & all our soldiers are rushing into Your mouths, their heads smashed by Your fearful teeth. I see that some are being crushed between Your teeth as well. BG 11.26-27 - 1972
- The vaisyas and the sudras are less important than the ksatriyas. Karna was known as the son of a carpenter, a sudra. So Draupadi avoided Karna by this plea
- The warriors of the Kuru dynasty (Karna, Sala, Bhuri, Yajnaketu, Duryodhana and Bhismadeva) accepted their great victory and took their daughter, Laksmana, away from him (Samba). Thereafter, they entered the city of Hastinapura in great triumph
- The western Yavana joined with Duryodhana in the Battle of Kuruksetra under the pressure of Karna. It is also foretold that these Yavanas also would conquer India, and it proved to be true

- These generals, Bhismadeva, Karnadeva, Karna and others, they were very, very powerful than Arjuna. Therefore Arjuna took the opportunity of killing Karna in a precarious position
- They (Bhima, Duryodhana, Sahadeva, Nakula, Arjuna, Krsna, Draupadi, Karna, Satyaki, Vikarna, Hardikya, Vidura, Santardana and Bhurisrava) were all so bound in loving affection for King Yudhisthira that they simply wanted to please him
- They were such powerful fighters that although Arjuna was also a maha-ratha, before them he was nothing. But by the grace of Krsna he was able to kill Karna, Bhisma, Dronacarya, and the others and come out victorious
- To keep her (Kunti's) virginity undisturbed, the sun-god arranged to give her a child that came from her ear, and therefore the child was known as Karna

- When he attempted to exhibit his talent in that meeting, Draupadi's brother declared that Karna could not take part in the competition because of his being the son of a sudra carpenter
