- A similar statement was given by Kuntidevi to Akrura: "My dear brother Akrura, my nephew Mukunda is long absent from us
- After his (Karna's) birth from the maiden Kunti, he was thrown in the Ganges. Later he was picked up by Adhiratha, and he and his wife Radha brought him up as their own offspring
- After saying this, the sun-god discharged his semen into the womb of Prtha and then returned to the celestial kingdom. Immediately thereafter, from Kunti a child was born, who was like a second sun-god
- After seeing the very opulent capital city, Akrura met King Dhrtarastra. He also saw grandfather Bhisma sitting with him. After meeting them, he went to see Vidura and then Kunti, Akrura's cousin
- After the death of Maharaja Pandu, his wives settled that one should remain and the other should go. Madri would perish with her husband in the fire, and Kunti would remain to take charge of the five Pandava children
- Akrura decided to return home and report on the strained circumstances in which he found Kunti and her five sons
- Akrura happened to be one of the cousins of Kunti; therefore, after meeting him, she began to inquire about her paternal relatives
- All the members of the Pandava family were mahatmas in household life. Maharaja Yudhisthira was the head of these mahatmas, and Queen Kuntidevi was the mother
- Although He is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Sri Krsna offered His respects to Maharaja Yudhisthira and Kunti. The Lord's exemplary behavior is to teach us
- Although Kunti had the body of a woman, she was a devotee. Therefore she was not like an ordinary unintelligent woman
- Although the sun-god, after appearing before Prtha (Kunti), wanted to give her a child, Prtha hesitated because she was still unmarried
- Although they were stepbrothers, because Kunti took charge of them after the departure of Madri with her husband Maharaja Pandu, Nakula and Sahadeva were as good as the other three Pandavas, Yudhisthira, Bhima and Arjuna
- Among the women present at Kuruksetra during the solar eclipse were Kunti, Gandhari, Draupadi, Subhadra and the queens of many other kings, as well as the gopis from Vrndavana
- Arjuna sustained his unimpeachable character by closing his eyes before Urvasi, addressing her as mother of the Kuru dynasty and placing her in the category of his mothers Kunti, Madri and Sacidevi, wife of Indradeva
- As confirmed in the prayers of Kunti (SB 1.8.19), nato natya-dharo yatha. The Lord was to play the part of a demon-killer, and a friend, son and brother to His devotees, and thus these devotees were all summoned
- As confirmed in the prayers of Kunti, yadoh priyasyanvavaye. Yadu was very dear to Krsna, who was therefore eager to descend in Yadu's dynasty
- As far as my daughter-in-law Kunti is concerned, upon the great General Pandu's death, she became a widow with many children, and therefore she suffered greatly. And when you were grown up she suffered a great deal also because of your actions
- As Maharaja Yudhisthira decided to prepare to go back to Godhead, so also Kunti decided, and she fully engaged herself in the transcendental devotional service of the Lord
- As soon as Kunti called for the demigod of the sun, he immediately appeared before her, and she was very much surprised
- At that time (Draupadi's svayamvara) it was not known that Karna was a ksatriya. He was born the son of Kunti before her marriage, but that was a secret
B
- Because Kunti feared people's criticisms, with great difficulty she had to give up her affection for her child (Karna). Unwillingly, she packed the child in a basket and let it float down the waters of the river
- Being situated in everyone's heart, the Lord is known as the supreme atma. Therefore all obeisances are offered unto Him. In this regard, one may refer to the prayers of Kunti in the First Canto of Srimad-Bhagavatam - SB 1.8.20
- Being weak Kunti prayed to be free from such bondage of family affection
- Bhavato 'darsanam yarhi hrsikanam ivesituh (SB 1.8.38). She (Kuntidevi) gives the example that without Krsna they would be like the senses without life
- Bhismadeva was the most affectionate grandfather of the Pandavas and caretaker of the widow daughter-in-law Kuntidevi
- Both Akrura and Vidura became very sympathetic to the mother of the Pandavas (Kunti) and began to solace her by glorifying her five sons, namely Yudhisthira, Arjuna, Bhima, Nakula and Sahadeva
- By talking among themselves, they soon forgot all their past miseries. Kuntidevi especially addressed her brother Vasudeva as follows
- By the word srnvanti Kuntidevi indicates that our first concern should be to hear about Krsna. One must be eager to hear
D
- Despite all her (Gandhari's) good qualities, she had the natural frailties of a woman, and she was envious of Kunti when the latter gave birth to a male child. Both the queens were pregnant, but Kunti first gave birth to a male child
- Devaki was once put into difficulty by her envious brother, otherwise she was well. But Kuntidevi and her sons were put into one difficulty after another for years and years together
- Devotees like Kunti have this intelligence (consciousness means Krsna consciousness) and understanding. Therefore Kunti says, - The Pandavas and Yadus are so important, but what is actually our value?
- During the forest life one demon girl, Hidimba, wanted Bhima as her husband. Bhima refused, but when the girl approached Kunti and Yudhisthira, they ordered Bhima to accept her proposal and give her a son
H
- He (Dhrtarastra) told his nephews and his sister-in-law, Kunti, - I've constructed a very nice house, and you should go live there for some time
- He (Krsna) always looks after the welfare of the devotees, and so from this instruction of Kunti we should understand that we should always be concerned with how to become devotees. Then all good qualities will come upon us
- He (Vasudeva) had special attention for Kunti because she became a widow at an early age. While inquiring about Vasudeva's welfare, Vidura remembered all about him and the family relationship
- Her (Kunti Devi) affection for the Pandavas and the Vrsnis is not out of the range of devotional service because the service of the Lord and the service of the devotees are identical
- Her (Kunti) prayers for the Lord after the Battle of Kuruksetra, when Lord Krsna was going back home, are excellently explained. Later she went to the forest with Gandhari for severe penance
I
- I (Krsna) have heard that after King Pandu's death, his young sons - Yudhisthira, Bhima, Arjuna, Nakula and Sahadeva - along with their widowed mother, have come under the charge of Dhrtarastra, who is to look after them as their guardian
- I (Kunti) am falsely attached to these families, but my real purpose in life is to be attached to You. - This is bhakti
- In a prayer in Srimad-Bhagavatam, Queen Kunti says, "My dear Lord, You exist inside and outside, yet no one can see You
- In a prayer to Krsna expressing her feelings, Srimati Kuntidevi called Him akincana-gocara. The prefix a means "not," and kincana "something of this material world"
- In spite of her great bereavement, Kunti decided to live, not to enjoy life in the absence of her husband, but only to give protection to the children. This incident is referred to by Vidura because he knew all the facts about his sister-in-law Kuntidevi
- In Srimad-Bhagavatam (SB 1.8.19) Srimati Kuntidevi has explained that Krsna appears in this world nato natyadharo yatha, "exactly like an actor dressed as a player"
- In the absence of such a husband (as Maharaja Pandu), it was almost impossible for Kunti to live on even as a widow, but she had to do it for the sake of the five children
- In the material world, Krishna also has eternal associates, such as Arjuna and Kunti Devi
- In the material world, one who is happy forgets Krsna, or God, but sometimes, if one is actually pious but in distress, he remembers Krsna. Queen Kuntidevi therefore preferred distress because it is an opportunity for remembering Krsna
- In the prayers of Kunti in the Srimad-Bhagavatam (SB 1.8.18), it is said that the Lord is covered by the curtain of yoga-maya and thus ordinary people cannot understand Him. BG 1972 purports
- In the previous verse (1.8.41) of Srimad-Bhagavatam Queen Kunti prayed that the Lord kindly cut off her attraction for her kinsmen, the Pandava and Vrsni families. However, giving up one's attraction for material things is not sufficient
- In the previous verses, Kuntidevi has explained that those who have come to this material world are working very hard like asses and have such a hard burden that they cannot bear it
- In their forest life they lived with a brahmana family that was in trouble because of one Bakasura demon, and Kunti ordered Bhima to kill the Bakasura to protect the brahmana family against troubles created by the demon
- In this meeting at Kuruksetra, Kuntidevi and Vasudeva, who were sister and brother, met after a long separation, along with their respective sons and daughters-in-law, children and other family members
- In this verse (SB 1.8.20), Kunti continues to express herself with humility. This humility is very good in devotional service
- Inside herself, Kunti felt like a she-deer in the midst of tigers, actually her position was like that. After the death of her husband, Pandu, she was supposed to take care of the pandavas, but the sons of Dhrtarastra were always planning to kill them
- It appears that Kuntidevi was remembering the miserable days when she had been banished with her sons through the mischievous plans of Dhrtarastra and Duryodhana
- It is mentioned in the Padma Purana, Maharaja Nanda & the cowherd boys of Vrndavana joined the marriage ceremony. Kings from the kingdoms of Kuru, Srnjaya, Kekaya, Vidarbha, Kunti all came to Dvaraka on this occasion & met with one another very joyfully
K
- Karna is the half brother of Arjuna and Yudhisthira, as they were born of Kunti before her marriage with King Pandu
- Karna is the half brother of Arjuna, as he was born of Kunti before her marriage with King Pandu. Krpacarya's twin sister married Dronacarya. BG 1972 purports
- Karna: Born of Kunti by the sun-god prior to her marriage with Maharaja Pandu, Karna took his birth with bangles and earrings, extraordinary signs for an undaunted hero
- King Dhrstaketu, the King of Kekaya, married Srutakirti, another sister of Kunti's. Srutakirti had five sons, headed by Santardana
- King Yudhisthira, the son of Kunti, blew his conchshell, the Ananta-vijaya, and Nakula and Sahadeva blew the Sughosa and Manipuspaka
- Krsna was the friend of the Pandavas and specifically the friend of Arjuna, and therefore Arjuna was a great and valorous warrior. But Kuntidevi knew, - People say, 'Oh, the Pandavas are such great warriors and heroes,' but what is the value of my sons
- Kumari Kunti, at her father's house, used to minister all kinds of services to all great brahmanas, and being satisfied with her good reception Durvasa Muni blessed her with a power to call any demigod she desired
- Kunti & Madri, decided that Kunti should live for the maintenance of the Pandavas, & Madri should accept the sati rituals by meeting voluntary death along with her husband. This agreement was endorsed by great sages like Satasrnga
- Kunti also gave birth to a child before her marriage. That is Karna. That is Karna. So it was not very common affair, and in extraordinary cases it so happened
- Kunti continued, "I (Kunti) can fully understand that but for Your (Govinda's) lotus feet there is no shelter or protection. Your lotus feet can deliver all aggrieved souls because You are the Supreme Personality of Godhead"
- Kunti could not follow such indirect conversations between Maharaja Yudhisthira and Vidura
- Kunti did not accept this proposal at first, but when vivid examples were set by Pandu she agreed. Thus by dint of the mantra awarded by Durvasa Muni she called for Dharmaraja, and thus Yudhisthira was born
- Kunti is authority. How she has become authority? Because she has followed the authorities - Brahma, Narada, Svayambhu. Those who are strictly following the statements of the authorities, they are also authority
- Kunti is giving this very nice example. This candana tree, it is a particular type of tree. It can grow anywhere. But because this sandalwood is grown in large quantity in such part of the world, the sandalwood is known as malaya-candana
- Kunti offered this prayer five thousand years ago, and this indicates that sandalwood was growing five thousand years ago in Malaysia
- Kunti prays: O my Lord, may You kindly remove this glowing effulgence that impedes my seeing Your sac-cid-ananda-vigraha, Your eternal form of bliss and knowledge. BG 1972 purports
- Kunti prays: O my Lord, You are the maintainer of the entire universe, and devotional service to You is the highest religious principle. Therefore, I pray that You will also maintain me. BG 1972 purports
- Kunti prays: O my Lord, Your transcendental form is covered by the yoga-maya. The brahmajyoti is the covering of the internal potency. BG 1972 purports
- Kunti refused to allow her husband to adopt such life (renounced order of life), but at last Maharaja Pandu gave her permission to become a mother of sons by calling some other suitable personalities
- Kunti remembers all the dangers through which she passed before the Pandavas regained their kingdom. In BG Lord Krsna says, kaunteya pratijanihi na me bhaktah pranasyati - My dear Arjuna, you may declare to the world that My devotee is never vanquished
- Kunti said, "Will you kindly tell Him that His Aunt Kunti is sitting amongst the enemy and would like to know when she will be able to see His lotus face again"
- Kunti was the daughter of the Vrsni family and the wife and mother of the Pandava family. Generally a woman has affection for both her father's family and husband's family
- Kunti, after overhearing Arjuna's telling of the end of the Yadu dynasty & disappearance of Lord Krsna, engaged in the devotional service of the transcendental P of G with full attention & thus gained release from the course of material existence
- Kunti, however, is aware of birth and death, and she is anxious not to repeat this process. This is indicated by the words apunar bhava-darsanam (SB 1.8.25). If one always sees Krsna, one is in KC, for Krsna consciousness means always thinking of Krsna
- Kuntidevi continued, "My dear brother (Vasudeva), I can understand that when providence goes against someone, even one’s nearest relatives forget him"
- Kuntidevi did not say that, "You are my nephew." No. That is not spiritual relationship. But Krsna-sakha, Arjuna, is related with Krsna eternally. Eternally as friend
- Kuntidevi has especially mentioned that the Lord descends (paritranaya sadhunam (BG 4.8)) especially to award bhakti-yoga to the paramahamsas
- Kuntidevi humbly submits, - You are meant for the paramahamsas and munis, those who are cleansed in heart and are engaged in bhakti-yoga. But what are we? We are simply women. We are in a lower class. How can we understand You
- Kuntidevi is humbly submitting: Although He (Krsna) has come to me, materially, as my nephew to offer me respect, but He is the Supreme Personality of Godhead
- Kuntidevi mentions that the grains are abundant, the trees full of fruits, and the oceans full of wealth, but she never mentions that industry and slaughterhouses are flourishing, for such things are nonsense that men have developed to create problems
- Kuntidevi never forgot her first child, Karna, and after Karna's death in the Battle of Kuruksetra she lamented and admitted before her other sons that Karna was her eldest son prior to her marriage with Maharaja Pandu
- Kuntidevi prays, "Please sever my tie of affection for my kinsmen." We are thinking, "This is my own, that is my own," but this is moha, illusion (janasya moho 'yam aham mameti) - SB 5.5.8
- Kuntidevi said, "In such a condition, even one’s father, one’s mother or one’s own children will forget him. Therefore, my dear brother, I do not accuse you (Vasudeva)"
- Kuntidevi said, "My dear brother (Vasudeva), I am very unfortunate because not one of my desires has ever been fulfilled; otherwise how could it happen that although I have such a saintly brother as you, perfect in all respects"
- Kuntidevi said, "You (Vasudeva) did not inquire from me as to how I was passing my days in a distressed condition of life"
- Kuntidevi says that those who are increasing their own intoxication cannot become Krsna conscious
- Kuntidevi says that those who are intoxicated in this way cannot feelingly address the Lord. They cannot feelingly say, jaya radha-madhava: "All glories to Radha and Krsna!" They have lost their spiritual feeling
- Kuntidevi says, "You are meant for the paramahamsas, not for the rascals and fools. You are meant for the paramahamsas and munis." The word muninam refers to those who are thoughtful or to mental speculators
- Kuntidevi says, avani-dhrug-rajanya-vamsa-dahana - You descend to kill all these rascals who rebelliously claim Your position
- Kuntidevi says, ime jana-padah svrddhah supakvausadhi-virudhah: (SB 1.8.40) "The grains are abundant, the trees full of fruits, the rivers flowing, the hills full of minerals, and the ocean full of wealth." What more should one want
- Kuntidevi says, na yasya kascid dayitah. The word dayita means "favor." Krsna favors no one. Dvesyas ca: and no one is His enemy
- Kuntidevi says, tvam akincana-gocaram (SB 1.8.26), indicating that to be free from the intoxication caused by high birth, opulence, education, and beauty is a good qualification
- Kuntidevi says, vipadah santu: "Let there be calamities." Vipadah santu tah sasvat: "Let all those calamities happen again and again." Because she knows how to remember Krsna at times of danger, she is welcoming danger
- Kuntidevi speaks of apunar bhava-darsanam (SB 1.8.25). The prefix a means "not," and punar bhava means "repetition of birth and death." The real danger is the repetition of birth and death. That must be stopped
- Kuntidevi therefore says, tatha paramahamsanam: (SB 1.8.20) "You are meant to be understood by the paramahamsas." The word parama means "ultimate," and hamsa means "swan." So paramahamsa means - the perfect swan
- Kuntidevi was simply thinking of how fortunate was Yasodamayi that she could threaten the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is feared even by fear personified (bhir api yad bibheti) - SB 1.8.31
- Kuntidevi, by humble submissing that: You are meant for the paramahamsa, for the amalatmanam, for the muninam & who are engaged in bhakti-yoga. And what we are? We are simply woman. We are in the lower grade. How we can understand You? This is humbleness
- Kuntidevi, however, was not an inhabitant of Vrndavana. She was an inhabitant of Hastinapura, which is outside Vrndavana
- Kuticaka, bahudaka, parivrajakacarya and paramahamsa are gradual progressive stages in the renounced order of life, sannyasa, and Queen Kuntidevi, the mother of the Pandavas, has spoken about them in her prayers for Lord Krsna
M
- Maharaja Pandu died at an early age, for which Kunti was so aggrieved that she fainted
- Many great misfortunes befell the Pandavas, but in all circumstances they simply depended on Krsna, who always saved them. Queen Kunti's response to these misfortunes is recorded in the next verse - SB 1.8.25
- Miracles are for the ignorant. Krsna is the highest miracle man. That is stated by Kunti
- My dear Lord, - she (Kunti) says, - I welcome dangers, because when dangers come I can remember You
O
- O bull (the personality of religion) you are offenseless and thoroughly honest; therefore I (King Pariksit) wish all good to you. Please tell me of the perpetrator of these mutilations, which blackmail the reputation of the sons of Prtha
- O Lord of the universe, soul of the universe, O personality of the form of the universe, please, therefore, sever my (Kunti's) tie of affection for my kinsmen, the Pandavas and the Vrsnis
- O Maharaja Pariksit, your great-grandfather the pious and chivalrous King Pandu later married Kunti
- Offering prayers to Krsna, Srimati Kuntidevi, the mother of the Pandavas, said, alaksyam sarva-bhutanam antar bahir avasthitam: (SB 1.8.18) "Krsna, You reside both inside and outside of everything, yet the unintelligent conditioned souls cannot see You"
- Once Durvasa Muni became a guest of Maharaja Kuntibhoja, and Kunti served the Durvasa Muni. He was very pleased, and he gave her one benediction that - You can call any demigod by your sweet will. As soon as you desire, the demigod will come
- Once when Durvasa was a guest at the house of Prtha's father, Kunti, Prtha satisfied Durvasa by rendering service
- One can certainly reach there (God's abode) after leaving this present body, and one must prepare himself to go back to Godhead by practicing devotional service. That guarantees a passport for going back to Godhead, and Kunti adopted it
- One who is Krsna conscious and discharging his duties nicely is the most fortunate and the most perfect. This is humbly stated here by Kuntidevi
Q
- Queen Kunti affirms that the Lord, although both within and without all living beings, is still invisible. The Lord is, so to speak, a puzzle for the common man
- Queen Kunti specifically adores the incarnation or descent of Lord Krsna above all other incarnations because in this particular incarnation He is more approachable
- Queen Kuntidevi could call for any one of the demigods, and thus she called Indra, and Arjuna was born by him. Arjuna is therefore a plenary part of the heavenly King Indra
S
- She (Kunti) advised Yudhisthira to start for the Pancaladesa. Draupadi was gained in this Pancaladesa by Arjuna, but by order of Kunti all five of the Pandava brothers became equally the husbands of Pancali, or Draupadi
- She (Kunti) called for the demigod Vayu (air), and thus Bhima was born. She called for Indra, the King of heaven, and thus Arjuna was born. The other two sons, namely Nakula and Sahadeva, were begotten by Pandu himself in the womb of Madri
- She (Kunti) got Maharaja Yudhisthira from Dharmaraja, Arjuna from Indra, and Bhima from Varuna, Vayu, yes. Similarly, still she is one of the chaste women. These things are there. But still, they are not polluted
- She (Kunti) illustrated that one must become detached from society, friendship, and love, all of which will otherwise entangle us
- She (Kunti) understands everything, she still takes the position of an ordinary woman and says, "How can I understand You?" This is humility
- She (Kunti) used to take meals after each thirty days. She finally sat down in profound meditation and later burned to ashes in a forest fire
- She received a mystic power by which she could call any demigod. To examine the potency of this mystic power, the pious Kunti immediately called for the sun-god
- She told the sun-god, "I was simply examining the effectiveness of this mystic power. I am sorry I have called you unnecessarily. Please return and excuse me"
- Since Maharaja Pandu, the father of the five brothers headed by Maharaja Yudhisthira, had died, Bhismadeva was the most affectionate grandfather of the Pandavas and caretaker of the widow daughter-in-law Kuntidevi
- So many great devotees have had to undergo difficulties, and the great example among women was Queen Kunti whose family life was perpetual danger, but because she always thought of Krsna she was saved
- So the world is full of rascals and fools. Therefore God consciousness, Krsna consciousness, has become a vague idea. Otherwise, if one wants to see God as Kuntidevi is requesting, that "You remain always . . ." one can keep God always within his heart
- Some of the prominent visitors were as follows: Bhismadeva, Dronacarya, Dhrtarastra, Duryodhana, Gandhari along with her sons, King Yudhisthira along with his wife, and the Pandavas along with Kunti
- Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu honored Bhavananda Raya by saying,"You are Maharaja Pandu himself, and your wife is Kuntidevi herself. All your highly intellectual sons are representatives of the five Pandavas"
T
- The Battle of Kuruksetra was fought between family members, and thus all affected persons were also family members like Maharaja Yudhisthira and brothers, Kunti, Draupadi, Subhadra, Dhrtarastra, Gandhari and her daughters-in-law, etc
- The five daughters of King Sura, named Prtha, Srutadeva, Srutakirti, Srutasrava and Rajadhidevi, were Vasudeva's sisters. Sura gave Prtha to his friend Kunti, who had no issue, and therefore another name of Prtha was Kunti
- The heavenly denizens from the upper planets used to visit the palace of King Kuntibhoja, and Kunti was engaged for their reception
- The Pandavas are her (Kunti's) own sons, and the Vrsnis are the members of her paternal family
- The paramahamsa stage of existence is the highest perfectional stage of spiritual values. According to Srimati Kuntidevi, the Lord is factually understood by the paramahamsas only
- The paramahamsas are generally found among both the impersonalists and the devotees, but according to Srimad-Bhagavatam (as clearly stated by Kuntidevi), pure bhakti-yoga is understood by the paramahamsas
- The particular thing to be noted is that the Personality of Godhead is not understood by great liberated persons, but only by devotees such as Queen Kunti in her humbleness
- The sages assembled in the forest of Naimisaranya inquired from Suta Gosvami about the birth of Maharaja Pariksit, but in the course of the narration other topics like his (Drona's) punishment by Arjuna and Queen Kuntidevi's prayers were narrated
- The son of Haihaya was Dharma, and the son of Dharma was Netra, the father of Kunti. From Kunti came a son named Sohanji, from Sohanji came Mahisman, and from Mahisman, Bhadrasenaka
- The son of Kratha was Kunti; the son of Kunti, Vrsni; the son of Vrsni, Nirvrti; and the son of Nirvrti, Dasarha
- The sufferings of Kuntidevi are doubly lamented. She suffered greatly because of early widowhood and to get her minor children brought up in the royal family
- The sun-god said: O beautiful Prtha, your meeting with the demigods cannot be fruitless. Therefore, let me place my seed in your womb so that you may bear a son. I shall arrange to keep your virginity intact, since you are still an unmarried girl
- The whole Vedic way of life is meant for detachment, and therefore Kunti prays, "Kindly help detach me from this family attraction." This is Kuntidevi's instruction
- There were the rulers of Kunti Province, Anarta Province, Kerala Province and many other countries and provinces
- They (Vidura and Akrura) pacified her (Kunti), saying that her sons were extraordinarily powerful; she should not be perturbed about them, since they were born of great demigods like Yamaraja, Indra and Vayu
- This agreement (between Kunti and Madri) was endorsed by great sages like Satasrnga and others present on the occasion
- Through the womb of Rajadhidevi, another sister of Kunti's, Jayasena begot two sons, named Vinda and Anuvinda. Similarly, the king of the Cedi state married Srutasrava. This king's name was Damaghosa
- To keep her (Kunti's) virginity undisturbed, the sun-god arranged to give her a child that came from her ear, and therefore the child was known as Karna
- To keep Kunti's virginity undisturbed, the sun-god arranged to give her a child that came from her ear, and therefore the child was known as Karna
- Two co-wives, namely Kunti and Madri, decided that Kunti should live for the maintenance of the five minor children, the Pandavas, and Madri should accept the sati rituals by meeting voluntary death along with her husband
V
- Vasudeva replied to his sister, "My dear sister (Kuntidevi), do not be sorry, and do not blame me in that way. We should always remember that we are all only toys in the hands of providence"
- Vasudeva replied, "My dear sister, you know that we were very much harassed by King Kamsa, and by his persecutions we were scattered here and there. We were always full of anxieties"
- Vasudeva's sister Kunti was the wife of Pandu, Vidura's elder brother, and in that sense also, Vasudeva was brother-in-law to Vidura. Kunti was younger than Vasudeva, and it was the duty of the elder brother to treat younger sisters as daughters
- Vrddhasarma, the King of Karusa, married Kunti's sister Srutadeva, and from her womb Dantavakra was born. Having been cursed by the sages headed by Sanaka, Dantavakra had formerly been born as the son of Diti named Hiranyaksa
W
- We must always engage in Krsna consciousness so that we shall not forget Him. That is indicated by Kuntidevi by the words sravana-smaranarhani. The word sravana means "hearing," smarana means "remembering," and arhana means - worshiping the Deity of Krsna
- We must depend on Krsna, like Devaki and Kunti. After Kunti became a widow, the envious Dhrtarastra was always planning ways to kill her sons, the five Pandavas
- We should act in such a way that our Krsna consciousness can under no circumstances be disturbed, even if there is heavy suffering. That is the instruction of Kuntidevi
- What about this material world? Padam padam yad vipadam: (SB 10.14.58) this is a place not for devotees but for people who are suffering. Therefore Kuntidevi suggests, - This Krsna consciousness is the medicine for your suffering. Take it and be happy
- What one should actually want is explained by Kuntidevi. She says, - Let my family relationships cease, but let my relationship with You be confirmed
- When her (Kuntidevi's) children were grown up, she continued to suffer because of her sons' actions. So her sufferings continued. This means that she was destined to suffer by providence, and this one has to tolerate without being disturbed
- When King Dhrtarastra, Vidura, Yudhisthira, Bhima, Arjuna, Bhismadeva, Dronacarya, Kunti, Nakula, Sahadeva, Narada, Vyasadeva and many other relatives and kinsmen were about to depart, they felt separation and therefore embraced each and every member
- When Krsna was leaving Kuntidevi for His own country, Kuntidevi regretfully said that she was better off in distress because Krsna was always present, whereas now that the Pandavas were situated in their kingdom, Krsna was going away
- When Kuntidevi wanted to cut off the family relation, she meant to cut off the relation of the skin. The skin relation is the cause of material bondage, but the relation of the soul is the cause of freedom
- When Maharaja Pandu died, both his wives, namely Kunti and Madri, were prepared to embrace the fire, but Madri requested Kunti to live for the sake of the younger children, the five Pandavas. This was agreed upon by Kunti at the added request of Vyasadeva
