You can take shelter of the Lord or otherwise of the disciplic succession coming from the Lord, from one disciple to another. Just like the Lord first instructed Brahmaji, then Brahmaji instructed Naradaji, then Naradaji instructed Vyasadeva and then Vyasadeva instructed his disciple, Madhvacarya etc, so in this way through disciplic succession we acquire knowledge about the Absolute Truth. avaroha-pantha, descending process. Not ascending process, that is not possible. Those persons who indulge in mental speculation and try to reach God, it is difficult for him to realize God. Kleso 'dhikataras tesam.
