Landscape

Conversations and Morning Walks

1971 Conversations and Morning Walks

Now, even there was no God's picture, one who is God conscious, he can see in the natural scenery presentation, he can see, "Oh, how God is artistic.
Room Conversation -- August 14, 1971, London:

Haṁsadūta: Gradually, if you study our history, music history, God was left out. Just like you will see landscapes, and there's nothing in there about God. It was left out. But originally the landscape, there was some depiction of the activities of God or His representative.

Guest (2): So a Beethoven symphony is not all right.

Haṁsadūta: It's not a matter of Beethoven symphony. Art means to glorify God. If God is in the... Just like this picture. There is a mountain, there is sky, but what is the point there? The point is Kṛṣṇa. There's a book, but the point is the spiritual master. Here's a landscape, but the point is Kṛṣṇa.

Guest (2): The original point I'm trying to get at...

Haṁsadūta: If there is some music, you must hear something about God's activity.

Guest (2): But suppose that was a beautiful landscape on its own, just the landscape, then it's worthless?

Revatīnandana: Limited and temporary enjoyment only. Limited and temporary enjoyment.

Guest (2): But you accept that the temporary enjoyment is there, would you?

Revatīnandana: Yes. And limited and temporary. It's called capala sukha, flickering.

Prabhupāda: Now, even there was no God's picture, one who is God conscious, he can see in the natural scenery presentation, he can see, "Oh, how God is artistic. How he has manufactured this flower, how he has painted, how He has made this tree." So that is higher intelligence. That is higher intelligence. Because without God, there can be nothing existing. So one has to learn how to see God in everything. That is another thing. That is higher status. Yes. But in the lower status of God consciousness one is advised that you should not see anything without God. But in the higher status, there is nothing in the world which is without God. But we should not imitate the higher status of life in the lower status of our position. Otherwise, one who has learned about God, he can see God in this flower. Actually, how God's hand has worked out this nice flower. Just like in the Bhagavad-gītā God says, raso 'ham apsu kaunteya (BG 7.8). Just like I am drinking water. In the taste of the water I'll see God. God says, Kṛṣṇa says, "I am the taste of the water." And actually, that taste cannot be created by man. The taste in the water, that is God's gift. So as soon as I taste the water, immediately I should remember, "Oh, here is God."

1976 Conversations and Morning Walks

This land will be utilized for walking?
Morning Walk -- January 16, 1976, Mayapur:

Jayapatāka: And we'll landscape on this now, planting trees and things.

Prabhupāda: And how this side? You can make it also slope. (break) ...clear.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: Yes, perfectly clear. (break) ...cannot bathe. We'll have to make more. (break)

Prabhupāda: This land will be utilized for walking?

Jayapatāka: We're going to put trees and things and make it beautiful. At one time you suggested that there be cottages placed here.

Prabhupāda: No. (break)

So why not employ one man to manfacture tulasī beads? Yes. There are many experts.
Morning Walk -- January 16, 1976, Mayapur:

Prabhupāda: So why not employ one man to manfacture tulasī beads? Yes. There are many experts.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: They have to live here as devotee?

Jayapatāka: No.

Prabhupāda: No, let them manufacture. That will make him devotee.

Bhavānanda: On the right here, Śrīla Prabhupāda, is our nursery for our landscaping.

Prabhupāda: So this is nice. It is very.... It will be very nice to live in these rooms. What is the cost of this kattan?

But there is no life.
Garden Conversation -- June 28, 1976, New Vrindaban:

Ṛṣi Kumāra: I saw one scientist on television, and he was saying on Mars there are mountains that are very, very big, much bigger than the mountains on this planet, and there's beautiful landscape, and they want to start a tourist industry, taking people back and forth.

Prabhupāda: Hm?

Puṣṭa Kṛṣṇa: They want to start a tourist industry on Mars, taking people back and forth.

Prabhupāda: But there is no life.

Now, what is the position of our big project?
Room Conversation About Mayapura Construction -- August 19, 1976, Hyderabad:

Jayapatākā: Actual maintenance, about eight or ten thousand. Other things, landscaping and other things...

Gargamuni: Landscaping... We built you a very wonderful park, very nice park. We've also put a walkway around the ghāṭa with stairs.

Prabhupāda: Now, what is the position of our big project?

Jayapatākā: That's what I was going to tell you first. So what happened was that the application we had given to the Chief Secretary and the Board of Revenue, that has gone from them to Mr. Choudhuri, who in turn had sent it on to the Commissioner. The Commissioner sent to District Magistrate. The Commissioner sent to the District Magistrate. So District Magistrate, he gave a favorable reply.

Oh, this is green also.
Room Conversation -- November 15, 1976, Vrndavana:

Prabhupāda: Oh, this is green also.

Devotee: Yeah, this is greenery around here and occasionally there's a big tree and then along the back here's...

Prabhupāda: Big trees are this side.

Devotee: Yeah, exactly, and also in here around this area and around in here. And in the back here we have like a small desert garden with cactus and different things.

Prabhupāda: It is desert?

Devotee: No, it's not a desert but that's the way this rear portion has been landscaped, you know.

Prabhupāda: Oh.

Devotee: It's made to look like a desert but it's actually very lush and it looks a lot bigger than two acres.

Prabhupāda: (indistinct) ...these things are (indistinct), you can keep cows. Eh?

1977 Conversations and Morning Walks

No, one story I can go. Not now, but I can go. So you are trying so much for my comfort. I do not know whether I shall be able to repay you.
Room Conversation -- March 31, 1977, Bombay:

Girirāja: Well, we have potted plants, but actually, we want to make like landscape.

Gargamuni: The lift doesn't go up to the roof, though.

Prabhupāda: It doesn't matter. One...

Girirāja: We can take by palanquin.

Prabhupāda: No, one story I can go. Not now, but I can go. So you are trying so much for my comfort. I do not know whether I shall be able to repay you. Then I shall try my best. It is not possible to repay your debts, that so kind. So I can simply pray to Kṛṣṇa to give His blessings to you so that you may remain very steady in devotional service and preach this cult all over the world.

Correspondence

1973 Correspondence

So far geography and history are concerned, you may teach geography as it is, there is no harm to getting knowledge about our material earth planet, even up to learning all of the countries and places, names, landscape, production, natural resources, climates, oceans, deserts, everything should be there.
Letter to Dinatarini -- Bombay 4 January, 1973:

So far geography and history are concerned, you may teach geography as it is, there is no harm to getting knowledge about our material earth planet, even up to learning all of the countries and places, names, landscape, production, natural resources, climates, oceans, deserts, everything should be there. Krsna Consciousness devotees shall not be known as fools. All of you nice boys and girls have had that kind of education, and you are preaching now Krsna consciousness in its pure form, so there is no hindrance for learning such things, just as you have also learned them as child.
