Philosophy Discussions
Prabhupāda: Self-realization, as I said, that enquiring to the Absolute Truth. It is not that?
Śyāmasundara: Yes.
Prabhupāda: I think that. Yes. That is self-realization. So there the philosophy of life begins: inquiry into the origin, source of everything.Conversations and Morning Walks

Prabhupāda: So you understand our philosophy?
John Fahey: I don't know if I understand it, but I'm reading it.
Prabhupāda: Hm. What is your philosophy?
John Fahey: I don't know.
Prabhupāda: No philosophy of life? Why you are living?
John Fahey: I don't know. I was just born.
Prabhupāda: Born—everyone is born. Cats and dogs are also born. They also live, they also die. So if we live like that—"I was born. Let me live somewhere, and die"—then what is the difference?
John Fahey: None.
Prabhupāda: No. There is difference. That one should understand. There is difference. A man should not live like cats and dogs, because he has got a mission.Prabhupāda: They make radio, television, they ask the same question. They do not know what question they can ask. The real..., it is meant for the philosophy of life, but they, they do not know.
Ātreya Ṛṣi: Yes.
Prabhupāda: So why this ordinary question to be repeatedly made and I answer? A waste of time. This is a serious movement. One should be responsible men, leaders of the society. If you want to take some benefit out of this movement, they should question.1973 Conversations and Morning Walks
Prabhupāda: Matir na kṛṣṇe parataḥ svato vā mitho 'bhipadyeta gṛha-vratānām adānta-gobhir viśatāṁ tamisraṁ punaḥ punaś carvita-carvaṇānām [SB 7.5.30], teṣāṁ viṣṭhābhyāṁ vikraman visad to...(?). (hums softly) What is your philosophy of life?
Devotee: Philosophy of life.
Guest (1): What do you mean?
Prabhupāda: Philosophy means why you are working, why you are living, what is the purpose.
Guest (1): We are working for (indistinct), I have been working also. We just follow the same tradition.
Prabhupāda: Still there must some why. Why your forefathers they work and they die? So do you think that is the only philosophy, to work and die? That is being done by the animals also. They work and die.1975 Conversations and Morning Walks
