- According to Rsabhadeva the human beings in this material world are just like madmen engaged in activities which they should not perform but which they do perform only for sense gratification

- As confirmed by Rsabhadeva, mahat-sevam dvaram ahur vimukteh: (SB 5.5.2) one must try to understand Krsna by serving a devotee. The word mahat refers to a devotee
- As I have advised you, My dear sons, you should act accordingly. Be very careful. By these means you will be freed from the ignorance of the desire for fruitive activity, and the knot of bondage in the heart will be completely severed

- Endowed with all these attributes, the son of Maharaja Nabhi became more powerful day after day. Due to this, the citizens, learned brahmanas, demigods and ministers wanted Rsabhadeva to be appointed ruler of the earth
- Essentially what Rsabhadeva is saying is that a life of sense gratification is meant for stool eaters like hogs, and now that we have a higher form of life, we should not try to imitate the lower forms
- Everyone was completely satisfied, and therefore there was no chance of anyone's asking for anything. The people were absorbed in great affection for the King (Rsabha). Since this affection was always expanding, they were not inclined to ask for anything

- Far from My heart have I abandoned irreligion (adharma) and nondevotional activities. They do not appeal to Me. Due to all these transcendental qualities, people generally pray to Me as Rsabhadeva, the Supreme P of God, the best of all living entities
- Following this principle, He (Rsabhadeva) began to wander all over the world. While traveling, He came to the province of Karnata in South India and passed through Konka, Venka and Kutaka

- For further advancement, you (Rsabhadeva's sons) should also give up the means. That is, you should not become attached to the process of liberation itself

- Hamsa and Mohini are not permanent, but Kapila, Dattatreya, Rsabha, Dhanvantari and Vyasa are five eternal forms, and they are more celebrated
- He (King Rsabha) instructed that human society should be dhira, self-controlled. That is ideal human society. That is Vedic civilization
- He (Lord Rsabhadeva) ruled the people according to the system of varnasrama-dharma, which enjoins that the brahmanas instruct the ksatriyas and the ksatriyas administer to the state through the vaisyas and sudras

- I am fully opulent, almighty & superior to Lord Brahma & Indra, the King of the heavenly planets. I am also the bestower of all happiness obtained in the heavenly kingdom & by liberation
- Imitating the behavior of Sumati, they (Jains) claim to be the descendants of Rsabhadeva. Those who are Vaisnavas carefully avoid their company because they are ignorant of the path of the Vedas
- In addition to these nineteen sons, there were eighty-one younger ones, all born of Rsabhadeva and Jayanti. According to the order of their father, they became well cultured, well behaved, very pure in their activities and expert in Vedic knowledge
- In other words, He (Rsabhadeva) completely understood that matter and spirit are separate, and He had no bodily conception. Thus, without being angry at anyone, He walked through the whole world alone

- My (Rsabhadeva) transcendental body (sac-cid-ananda-vigraha) looks exactly like a human form, but it is not a material human body. It is inconceivable. I am not forced by nature to accept a particular type of body; I take on a body by My own sweet will
- My dear boys, you are all born of My heart, which is the seat of all spiritual qualities. Therefore you should not be like materialistic and envious men
- My dear sons, you should not envy any living entity - be he moving or nonmoving. Knowing that I am situated in them, you should offer respect to all of them at every moment. In this way, you offer respect to Me (Rsabhadeva)

- Natural instinct, spiritual natural instinct, can be attained by tapasya. Tapo divyam. That is the instruction of Rsabhadeva
- Nearby Rsabha Hill is the forest where Lord Rsabhadeva burned Himself to ashes
- Not a single Jain up till now has become perfectly in the renounced order of life. So they say so. It was imitated by one king in the South India, and he is the originator, propounder of the Jainism. They say. But you cannot imitate Rsabhadeva

- O Pariksit, just to show all the yogis the mystic process, Lord Rsabhadeva, the partial expansion of Lord Krsna, performed wonderful activities. He was the master of liberation & was fully absorbed in transcendental bliss, which increased a thousandfold
- O respectful brahmanas, as far as I (Rsabhadeva) am concerned, no one is equal or superior to the brahmanas in this world. I do not find anyone comparable to them
- Of Rsabhadeva's one hundred sons, the eldest, named Bharata, was a great, exalted devotee qualified with the best attributes. In his honor, this planet has become known as Bharata-varsa

- Remaining always in that state, He gave up His pastimes as Lord Rsabhadeva within the material world. If, following in the footsteps of Lord Rsabhadeva, one can give up his subtle body, there is no chance that one will accept a material body again
- Rsabhadeva addressed His sons, sons, "My dear boys," that - if you want perpetual, eternal happiness, nonbreaking happiness, then you try to purify your existence, and for that, you try to accept some austerity
- Rsabhadeva advised His sons, tapo divyam putraka yena sattvam suddhyed: "One should engage in penance and austerity to attain the divine position of devotional service. By such activity, one's heart is purified

- Rsabhadeva says that - My dear sons, don't live this irresponsible life like animals, hogs and dogs, but take the responsibility of human life. Undergo austerities, penances, as they ae recommended in the sastras and make your life
- Rsabhadeva says that this human form of life is not meant for working so hard like cats and dogs. That is not recommended. Ayam deha. But the material world, people are so enchanted that working day and night they think I am enjoying
- Rsabhadeva says, "My dear sons, this body, human body, this body is not for wasting like, dogs and hogs." They are not wasting. They are in the gradual evolution process. They are coming to the human form of body gradually, by nature's law
- Rsabhadeva suggested that, "You practice austerity." Means . . . austerity means, I have already explained, I do not like to do anything, but for curing my this material disease, I have to do that. This is called austerity
- Rsabhadeva warns His sons that "Don't live the life of hogs. Live like human being." That is wanted. And for that purpose you require to execute tapasya
- Rsabhadeva was the son of King Nabhi & the grandson of King Agnidhra, & he was the father of King Bharata, after whose name this planet earth was called Bharata-varsa. His mother was also known as Merudevi, although her name is mentioned here as Sudevi

- Seeing him (Emperor Rsabhadeva) like a madman, wandering naked with long hair and a long beard, less intelligent children and men in the street used to spit on him and urinate on his body. He used to lie in his own stool and never move
- So far as we are convinced, this land's name Bharata-varsa was established from the reign of Bharata the son of King Rsabha

- Tapo divyam: (SB 5.5.1) like other great spiritual authorities, Rsabhadeva orders that this human life is meant for austerity aimed toward realizing God. Therefore in our Vedic civilization we find so many rules and regulations
- The avataras associated with the reign of each Manu, known as manvantara-avataras, are listed as follows in Srimad-Bhagavatam (Eighth Canto, chapters 1, 5 and 13): (8) Sarvabhauma, (9) Rsabha, (10) Visvaksena, (11) Dharmasetu
- The great sage Rsabhadeva instructed his sons in this way: In this life you have acquired these beautiful bodies. Now you should know that they are not meant for sense gratification like the bodies of hogs and dogs but for spiritual realization
- The great well-wisher of everyone, the Supreme Lord Rsabhadeva, instructed His own sons. Although they were perfectly educated & cultured, He instructed them just to set an example of how a father should instruct his sons before retiring from family life
- The guru is the spiritual master. Srila Rsabhadeva advised His sons, gurur na sa syat. .. na mocayed yah samupeta-mrtyum: "One should not take up the post of spiritual master unless he is able to lead his disciple from the cycle of birth and death."

- There are also lila-avataras, and these include (12) Rsabha, (13) Prthu, (14) Nrsimha, (15) Kurma, (16) Dhanvantari, (17) Mohini, (18) Vamana, (19) Bhargava Parasurama, (20) Raghavendra
- There are many hippie groups at the present moment, but they all originated from King Arhat, who imitated the activities of Lord Rsabhadeva
- They (people) do not know how to become free from their material encagement. Rsabhadeva said that such activity is not at all good, since it encages the soul again and again in a body subjected to the threefold miseries of the material condition
- This is the Bhagavata's instruction: one should not begin . . . become a guru, or to cheat the disciple, showing him wrong path. That is not good. That is instructed by Rsabhadeva

- This passage (of CC Adi 8.19) is a quotation from Srimad-Bhagavatam (SB 5.6.18). While Sukadeva Gosvami was describing the character of Rsabhadeva, he distinguished between bhakti-yoga and liberation by reciting this verse
- Those who are completely pure in heart, they do not cause distress. Why, then, did Rsabhadeva neglect them?
- To satisfy the senses, that also requires tapasya, hard labor. But here Rsabhadeva says that you accept some painful condition - it is not at all painful, but it appears - tapo divyam, for God realization

- We are very unfortunate. Every one of us, we are very bad, mandah, bad habits. So it is not possible to imitate Rsabhadeva or Haridasa Thakura. Don't imitate but try to follow
- When food is thus offered unto Me, I eat it with full satisfaction. Indeed, I derive more pleasure from food offered in that way than from the food offered in the sacrificial fire
- When Lord Rsabhadeva ruled this planet of Bharatavarsa, even common men did not want to ask for anything, at any time or by any means. No one ever asks for a will-o'-the-wisp
- When people know My (Rsabhadeva) motive after performing rituals according to the Vedic principles, they offer food to Me with faith and love through the mouth of a brahmana
- When the father, Maharaja Nabhi, saw all these qualities, he thought his son to be the best of human beings or the supreme being. Therefore he gave Him the name Rsabha
- Wherever He (Rsabhadeva) traveled, all bad elements surrounded Him, just as flies surround the body of an elephant coming from a forest. He was always being threatened, beaten, urinated upon and spat upon
- While lying down, He (Rsabhadeva) ate and drank, and He passed stool and urine and rolled in it. Indeed, He smeared His whole body with His own stool and urine so that opposing elements might not come and disturb Him
- Who is that mystic yogi who can follow the examples of Lord Rsabhadeva even with his mind? Lord Rsabhadeva rejected all kinds of yogic perfection, which other yogis hanker to attain. Who is that yogi who can compare to Lord Rsabhadeva?
- Within the hearing of the citizens, Rsabhadeva instructed His sons, although they were already very well behaved, devoted and qualified. He instructed them so that in the future they could rule the world very perfectly. Thus he spoke as follows
