Correspondence

1972 Correspondence

Letter to Ajita -- Bombay 4 January, 1972:

I think Vegavan is there also in Australia, he is also Swedish boy, whether he can assist you as well?

1973 Correspondence

Letter to Vegavan -- New Delhi 9 November, 1973:

I beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter dated 24/10/73 and have noted the contents. It is very good to hear of your programs in the high schools. Please continue and increase this program there.

It is a nice name you have chosen for your son, Murali Dhara Das. I give all my blessings to your son. Please raise him as a Krsna conscious child and be happy to become parents of a nice Vaisnava.

1975 Correspondence

Letter to Alanatha -- Vrindaban 1 September, 1975:

I think the translation work was done by Vegavan and Ajita Prabhus. So encourage them in this work. This translation work is very important. It is not simply a matter of ABC's, but it requires spiritual realization to do it properly. I understand that you are a good sankirtana man and book distributer. So you all cooperate. They translate, and you print and distribute. What more do you want? In this way you flood Sweden with transcendental literatures.

Letter to Alanatha -- Bombay 13 November, 1975:

But one thing is disturbing me, are these reports coming from Sweden. These books are translated by Vegavan and Ajita, so they are rendering good service to you. Do not deal with them by force. They are competent hands, so why fight with them? Do everything amicably.

1976 Correspondence

Letter to Vegavan -- New Vrindaban 24 June, 1976:

I am in due receipt of your letter dated June 14, 1976 with enclosed copy of affidavit and I have noted the contents with care.

Now you can try to introduce all my books into the Swedish Universities just as we are doing everywhere else. Approach them with all 54 volumes in English and also in all other languages.

Letter to Vegavan:

I am in due receipt of your letter dated August 1, 1976 and have noted the contents with care.

On your recommendation I am accepting the following disciples for first and second initiation:

First Initiation:

Bhakta Anders—Atma-nivedana dasa

Bhakta John—Yogindra dasa

Karen Johnstone—Kama-gayatri devi dasi

Second Initiation:

Turiya das brahmacari

Jamadagni das brahmacari

Radhanatha das brahmacari

Paragati das brahmacari

Hold a fire sacrifice and the initiates should refrain from the four pillars of sinful life: no illicit sex no meat, fish or egg eating (only Krsna prasadam), no gambling, and no intoxication. All devotees must also chant the prescribed 16 rounds daily on the beads. Enclosed you will also find four brahmana threads and gayatri mantra. After the fire sacrifice the tape of the gayatri mantra should be played in the right ear of the brahmana initiate. To become brahmana one must be clean inside and outside; outside by regularly taking bath, and inside by always chanting the Hare Krsna maha-mantra. the beads for the first initiates may be chanted on by Sriman Jayatirtha das and they should be given these beads and names at the time of the fire sacrifice.

Letter to Vegavan -- Hyderabad 17 December, 1976:

I am in due receipt of your letter dated 76/12/03.

Regarding the question you have asked, you can give a very straight answer. Bhagavad-gita says, "dehantara praptih (BG 2.13)". The soul transmigrates, but there is no regular process. In the beginning of creation, when all the world was water, all living entities were aquatics. Then gradually from aquatics the soul passes into plant bodies, then insect bodies, then bird bodies, then animal bodies, then human beings. In the human form the soul can decide whether to go back to home, back to Godhead or return to birth and death, accepting material bodies according to his karma. Therefore, it is advised to take advantage of the human form of body to go back home, back to Godhead. Our movement is for this purpose, to offer all human beings a chance to go back home, back to Godhead.

That is very good news that they are going to use our Bhagavad-gita as it is in the high schools. That you are getting new devotees who are not from Sweden doesn't matter. Anyone coming is welcome.

1977 Correspondence

Letter to Vegavan -- Bombay 5 January, 1977:

I am in due receipt of your letter dated 76/12/27 along with two copies of the Russian Easy Journey to Other Planets. Thank you very much.

This is very, very good. I'm very pleased. It is another epoch making event. I'm sending one copy to the Russian embassy here and asking for their comment and opinion. The inclusion of my conversation with Professor Kotovsky is welcome.

Letter to Vegavan -- West Bengal 13 February, 1977:

I have received your letter of 19 January and examined the contents.

It gives me great pleasure to hear that the Bhagavad-gita As It Is will soon be published in the Swedish language.

On your recommendation, I have accepted the two devotees for first initiation, and their spiritual names are as follows:

Ryno Svensson———Raivata Dasa

Helga Svensson——-Hiranyangi Dasi

I have also accepted Yogendra Das Brahmacari for second initiation. Enclosed find one sanctified thread and the gayatri mantra. Have him hear the recording of me in the right ear. You may hold a fire yajna for the first initiations.

Letter to Harikesa -- Bombay 6 May, 1977:

I am very pleased to know that our activities are going nicely in Scandinavia. I know that Vegavan is a very intelligent good boy.
