Srimad-Bhagavatam

SB Canto 1

If the state arranges to distribute transcendental sound by resounding the holy name, fame and activities of the Lord, as they are authorized in the Bhagavad-gītā or Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, then a favorable condition will be created.
SB 1.18.6, Purport: In modernized human society there are great advancements of material science, and they have invented the radio to distribute sound in the air. So instead of vibrating some nuisance sound for sense enjoyment, if the state arranges to distribute transcendental sound by resounding the holy name, fame and activities of the Lord, as they are authorized in the Bhagavad-gītā or Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, then a favorable condition will be created, the principles of religion in the world will be reestablished, and thus the executive heads, who are so anxious to drive away corruption from the world, will be successful. Nothing is bad if properly used for the service of the Lord.

SB Canto 3

We can understand the knowledge of God by hearing Bhagavad-gītā from a person authorized in the disciplic succession.
SB 3.26.33, Purport: Every word we hear has a meaning behind it. As soon as we hear the word “water,” there is a substance—water—behind the word. Similarly, as soon as we hear the word “God,” there is a meaning to it. If we receive that meaning and explanation of “God” from God Himself, then it is perfect. But if we speculate about the meaning of “God,” it is imperfect. Bhagavad-gītā, which is the science of God, is spoken by the Personality of Godhead Himself. This is perfect knowledge. Mental speculators or so-called philosophers who are researching what is actually God will never understand the nature of God. The science of God has to be understood in disciplic succession from Brahmā, who was first instructed about knowledge of God by God Himself. We can understand the knowledge of God by hearing Bhagavad-gītā from a person authorized in the disciplic succession.

Lectures

Srimad-Bhagavatam Lectures

Kṛṣṇa also says in the Bhagavad-gītā, although He’s the Supreme Personality of Godhead, brahma-sūtra-padaiś caiva hetumadbhir viniścitaṁ. Brahma-sūtra, Vedānta-sūtra—He’s giving reference. So don’t talk anything which is not authorized in the statement of śāstra.
Lecture on SB 7.9.35 -- Mayapur, March 13, 1976: It is stated in the śāstra. Caitanya Mahāprabhu, He’s the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Whatever He says, that is law. Still He does not act in that way. He gives reference to the śāstras. This is mentioned in the śāstra. In the Bhāgavata also it is mentioned, kīrtanād eva kṛṣṇasya mukta-saṅgaḥ paraṁ vrajet. Caitanya Mahāprabhu never said... Even Kṛṣṇa does not say unauthoritatively. He gives reference to the śāstras. So Caitanya Mahāprabhu, this movement, Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement, Hare Kṛṣṇa movement, has given us, not whimsically, although He can give any law. He is the Supreme Lord. Dharmaṁ tu sakṣad bhagavat-praṇītam [SB 6.3.19]. Whatever the Lord says, that is the principle of religion. So we do not know whether Caitanya Mahāprabhu is God or not, but śāstra says He is, so whatever He says, that is dharma.

Conversations and Morning Walks

1971 Conversations and Morning Walks

That is my position because I have been authorized in that way, that “Anyone who preaches this confidential subject matter, he is My dear.”
Discussion with Indians -- January 18, 1971, Allahabad:

Prabhupāda: I am simply teaching the teachings of Kṛṣṇa. That is my point. I may be sama-darśi, I may be not sama-darśi.

Guest (4): Not be, but you teach that we should worship the sama-darśi.

Prabhupāda: Kṛṣṇa says. I don’t say.

Guest (4): Ah! You say, Kṛṣṇa says that...

Prabhupāda: But that does not mean that one has become sama-darśinaḥ. That is... That is his...

Guest (4): Then he is not following the guru.

Prabhupāda: No. My position is simply repeating. That’s all. My position is.

Guest (2): So we want understanding more than mere tape recorder.

Prabhupāda: Yes, you may be tape... But that is my position because I have been authorized in that way, that “Anyone who preaches this confidential subject matter, he is My dear.” So I have nothing to learn, what is sama-darśi. I have my position...

Guest (4): No, blind following and open-eyed following, I say it is all right. We can read the book. We can read the verses, translation, Hindi translation. But that is not understanding.

Prabhupāda: Yes, that is not understanding, I understand. But I am understanding from my teacher, just like I told you, Rāmānujācārya, Madhvācārya, Viṣṇusvāmī, Lord Caitanya. There are so many stalwart teachers, practically whole Hindu community.

1976 Conversations and Morning Walks

It is authorized in the Bhagavad-gītā.
Room Conversation -- December 27, 1976, Bombay:

Prabhupāda: Don’t say it is different. It is the authorized.

Hari-śauri: There’s no need to mention anything else.

Prabhupāda: It is authorized, and it is taught by Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Others are unauthorized. This is authorized. And that’s a fact. This is authorized. And others, those, they are manufactured. Just like they have manufa...

Gopāla Kṛṣṇa: It is authorized in the Bhagavad-gītā.

Prabhupāda: In every... Bhagavad... This is Vedic. Bhagavad-gītā means the words of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. And which other way can be authorized way? You have to impress that upon.

1977 Conversations and Morning Walks

This is the mystic system unknown to the world, but it is authorized in the Vedas, original culture of the human civilization.
Letter to Russian -- January 5, 1977, Bombay: Easy Journey to Other Planets. So this is a different culture, how to go to other planetary system, how to transfer the soul from one body to another. In other planets there are also living entities. One can transfer himself, after giving up this body, to anywhere he likes without any help of the sputnik, and without the help of the sputnik or any flying machine. This is the mystic system unknown to the world, but it is authorized in the Vedas, original culture of the human civilization.

Correspondence

1971 Correspondence

No one can be avatara. unless he is authorized in the scriptures.
Letter to Locanananda -- Delhi, India 8 December, 1971: So far your questions: No one can be avatara. unless he is authorized in the scriptures. We have no such record of avatara. in the present age, according to Srimad-Bhagavatam. Real God means he accepts a spiritual master, even He is God Himself. Like Krishna, His Spiritual Master was Sandipani Muni. And Krishna confirms in Bhagavad-gita, IV, that the supreme science is only received in disciplic succession, so where is the question of receiving this knowledge in nay other way? Are these people greater authority than Krishna? As for the teachings of Sri Aurobindo, his idea is not correct. Just like the whole material universe is the creation of the sunshine, so to go to the sunshine does not mean to sit down in the shade of a tree. If somebody argues that this tree is also a creation of the sun so why not sit under the shadow of a tree, this philosophy is not practical and is not accepted in BG. Krishna states that everything is resting in His impersonal feature, but that He is not there. Just like the cloud is sustained in the air, but that does not mean that cloud and air are the same thing. Why worship atom? If in deity there are so many atoms, is it not better to worship combination of atoms in nice form? This sort of philosophy is very misleading and damaging to people who become befooled by it. Try to defeat them, but if you cannot, don't mix with them. Or learn very nicely and argue with them strongly. All great acaryas worship deity, so why should we listen to some small man--Is Aurobindo greater than Krishna?
