Acarya gives

Bhagavad-gita As It Is

BG Preface and Introduction

The ācāryas give the following example
BG Introduction: The acaryas give the following example. If a married woman is attached to another man, or if a man has an attachment for a woman other than his wife, then the attachment is to be considered very strong. One with such an attachment is always thinking of the loved one. The wife who is thinking of her lover is always thinking of meeting him, even while she is carrying out her household chores. In fact, she carries out her household work even more carefully so her husband will not suspect her attachment. Similarly, we should always remember the supreme lover, Sri Krsna, and at the same time perform our material duties very nicely. A strong sense of love is required here. If we have a strong sense of love for the Supreme Lord, then we can discharge our duty and at the same time remember Him. But we have to develop that sense of love.

Srimad-Bhagavatam

SB Canto 1

The ācāryas therefore give directions in spiritual well-being for people in general
SB 1.1.9, Purport: In Bhagavad-gita, worship of the acarya is recommended. The acaryas and gosvamis are always absorbed in thought of the well-being of the general public, especially their spiritual well-being. Spiritual wellbeing is automatically followed by material well-being. The acaryas therefore give directions in spiritual well-being for people in general. Foreseeing the incompetencies of the people in this age of Kali, or the iron age of quarrel, the sages requested that Suta Gosvami give a summary of all revealed scriptures because the people of this age are condemned in every respect. The sages, therefore, inquired of the absolute good, which is the ultimate good for the people. The condemned state of affairs of the people of this age is described as follows.

SB Canto 6

Śrīla Vīrarāghava Ācārya gives this opinion
SB 6.1.27, Purport: In this regard Srila Sridhara Svami expressed his verdict as follows: etac ca tad-upalalanadi-sri-narayana-namoccarana-mahatmyena tad-bhaktir evabhud iti siddhantopayogitvenapi drastavyam. "According to the bhaktisiddhanta, it is to be analyzed that because Ajamila constantly chanted his son's name, Narayana, he was elevated to the platform of bhakti, although he did not know it." Similarly, Srila Viraraghava Acarya gives this opinion: evam vartamanah sa dvijah mrtyu-kale upasthite satyajno narayanakhye putra eva matim cakara matim asaktam akarod ity arthah. "Although at the time of death he was chanting the name of his son, he nevertheless concentrated his mind upon the holy name of Narayana."

SB Canto 10.1 to 10.13

The ācārya gives the suitable method for crossing the ocean of nescience by accepting the boat of the Lord's lotus feet
SB 10.2.31, Purport: In our Krsna consciousness movement, this same path is being prescribed and followed. Thus the devotees have been advised to refrain from four sinful activities -- illicit sex, intoxication, meat-eating and gambling -- and to chant sixteen rounds a day. These are bona fide instructions. Because in the Western countries constant chanting is not possible, one should not artificially imitate Haridasa Thakura, but should follow this method. Krsna will accept a devotee who strictly follows the regulative principles and the method prescribed in the various books and literatures published by the authorities. The acarya gives the suitable method for crossing the ocean of nescience by accepting the boat of the Lord's lotus feet, and if this method is strictly followed, the followers will ultimately reach the destination, by the grace of the Lord. This method is called acarya-sampradaya.

Lectures

Bhagavad-gita As It Is Lectures

So the ācāryas give this example as a bad character woman who has got attachment for other's husband
Introduction to Gitopanisad (Earliest Recording of Srila Prabhupada in the Bhaktivedanta Archives): A very crude example is set by the acaryas in this connection. And what is that example? It is said that a woman who is attached to another man, although she has got a husband, still, she's attached to another man. And this sort of attachment becomes very strong. This is called parakiya-rasa. Either in case of man or woman. If man has got attachment for another woman besides his wife, or a woman has got attachment for another man besides her husband, that attachment is very strong. That attachment is very strong. So the acaryas give this example as a bad character woman who has got attachment for other's husband, she always thinks, at the same time, shows her husband that she is very much busy in the family affairs so that her husband may not doubt her character. So as she is always remembering the time of meeting with her lover at night, in spite of doing all this household work very nicely, similarly one has to remember the supreme husband, Sri Krsna, always in spite of doing his material duties very nicely. That is possible. It requires a strong sense of love
Otherwise, even ācārya gives you instruction, if you don't follow, so how he can save you?
Lecture on BG 1.26-27 -- London, July 21, 1973: Similarly, in this material world everyone individually has to take care of himself. How he can be saved from the clutches of maya. That is Krsna consciousness movement. A teacher can give you hints. The acarya can give you hints that "You can be saved in this way." But the execution of the duties, that is in your hand. If you perform the spiritual duties rightly, then you are saved. Otherwise, even acarya gives you instruction, if you don't follow, so how he can save you? He can save you by instruction, by his mercy, as much as possible. But you have to take it in your hands seriously.

Srimad-Bhagavatam Lectures

Ācārya gives direction how one can make advance in spiritual consciousness, that is ācārya
Lecture on SB 1.1.9 -- Auckland, February 20, 1973:

Devotee: (reading purport) "The acaryas therefore give directions in spiritual well-being for people in general."

Prabhupada: That is acarya. Acarya does not write any book of sex psychology, Freud's philosophy. That is not acarya, that is rascal. Acarya gives direction how one can make advance in spiritual consciousness, that is acarya. Then?
Ācārya gives some way for simple understanding. The same conclusion, but according to the time, circumstances, they give a very easy method to understand
Lecture on SB 7.9.12 -- Mayapur, February 19, 1976: Although they have got varieties of methods -- suddhadvaita, dvaitadvaita, vasistadvaita, like that -- they present the same philosophy in clear way. And Caitanya Mahaprabhu presented the same philosophy, that acintya-bhedabheda. That is acarya. Acarya gives some way for simple understanding. The same conclusion, but according to the time, circumstances, they give a very easy method to understand. That is acarya. Acarya is following strictly the previous acarya, but according to the circumstances, he may make little changes. That is... That change is not change from the original idea. No.

Nectar of Devotion Lectures

So this is the principle, and the ācāryas give us direction. It is not very difficult. Simply we have to be, become very serious and sincer
The Nectar of Devotion -- Vrndavana, November 13, 1972: So if we take shelter of the acaryas, that means we take shelter of Krsna. Yasya prasadad bhagavat-prasadah **. If the acarya, guru, is satisfied, then we must know certainly that Krsna is satisfied. Yasya prasadad bhagavat-prasadah **. Acaryam mam vijaniyat [SB 11.17.27]. So this is the principle, and the acaryas give us direction. It is not very difficult. Simply we have to be, become very serious and sincere. Then everything is all right. Go on.
